The 'Credit Card Erep' Culture

I will state this bluntly: I was told yesterday, on IRC, that Alfragem could himself tank his way to defeat eCanada. It is probabaly true judging from his previous expenditure.
Now I don't know why or where these wealthy seeming types get their riches, nor do I care to ask ty. My families funds are wealthy enough and appreciating currently and I have the card that accesses to these largish amounts of pennies, close to £20 mil according to our accountants Deloitte. I tell you this truism: You don't get wealthy, nor stay wealthy, by wasting money on games that don't bring a profit. Would I spend a penny on a game? NEVER!
If these peeps are insane or spending on stolen credit cards (I exempt Tem for this) I do not know...
The point is is if one person can tank himself to Vancouver and I can tank myself to Warsaw what is the point? We battle with bank balances and idiotic we are?
This is not the game it was.

I'd probably pay for features, which would make the game less painful. E.g. a button for working in all companies. But for damage... no way. I seldom even use gold for fighting.
I think its unfair that the rich guys have to click all those buttons. I mean if the have paid so much the devs should give them a autowin button connected to their bank account. Just click it once and the battle is won and money is withdrawn from the account.
With this method the rich guys have time to fight in more wars.
How about balancing the alliances again, so we don't have to tank to compensate? Group of spoiled selfish people makes a super alliance to win everything without using any money, and we are all supposed to play their game and have fun doing it??? Hell no, if they want to have fun winning, they will spend money, just like we have to do! It is what they are doing for the last few days anyway, so I consider that a win for the non-ONE countries.
Clearly the developers of the game have made it a priority to encourage the "gold-beasts" to... well... goldbeast. It isn't quite Possible for one person to win against a large united opponent, but it certainly is possible for one person to wreak havoc and defeat a small nation.
the benefit to the developers of the game is that if one (or twenty) goldbeasts decide to go nuts, it encourages others to buy gold in order to offset the tanking damage. Truly a self-fulfilling marketing strategy!
Anyways, your truism is not really accurate. Guys like Alfagrem and Romper remain wealthy in "real life" no matter what they spend on this game. I'm fortunate in that my RL expenses are fairly low, so I've got extra income to blow on stupid sh*t (see also: beer). But I'm not exactly a high roller in real life! Ask Jacobi or Acacia, they will tell you.
Imagine the income that this silly little browser game generates in a month.

voted, very true. I remember this game before you had boosters, before you had wellness packs and before you could even buy gold at all.
That game that I played then, was the best I've ever played in my life.
It can be equated to any form of entertainment that you spend money on. Why would people who spend money on this game be singled out any differently than do people who spend money on anything - movies, going out, drinking, etc.
To say that those who spend money on this game are "wasting" money seems a bit harsh to me.
My outlay is accrued intrest on my own sizeable reserves (tho' not as high as yours seems to be) So there is a limit to how much I can tank a month without actually 'losing' money and taking into account me wasting it on others entertainments such as beer, pizza, strippers, tabs, cinema, etc....
As for Tanking, If one guy does it then others follow suit as your saw in the London battle. That example also shows you the limit of a gold-beast - One goldbeast was defeated by a combination of other (temporary) goldbeasts and therefore shows you that alone I, or any other goldbeast, can take, conquer and hold down any other decent sized nation.
when i saw zinga game cards in 7-11 for the equivalent of "gold" In their various facebook games i realized the end of the world was coming and it was only a matter of time.
i'd really like to see a limit to how many wellness packs can be used in a 24hr period but nobody would ever cut off their income supply like that.
I mean the devs must have made at least 2000 eruos just from this alf guy over the weekend...
The battle for London alone was a +100million fight so I imagine they did very well out of it!
Unfortunatly for them, we are no longer obliged to hold any one region over another now.
I'm limited by common sense. Also known as my wife.
I'm limited by not having any money to spend 🙁
I'm limited by hatred of the admins... and lack of cash
Oh the days of the 40 limit Wellness pack.
Back then it was really worth it to run a professional army and it made all the difference.
Nowadays... I can't see the tactic as much as I did back then. Sure there is some, but it's not what it used to be, far from it!
im limited by being born to a poor family and barely surviving on the money i have.
Maybe you forget to consider that without gold purchases this game wouldn't exist altogether?
It is what it is.
octavian i think your missing the fine line between 20 bucks here, 20 bucks there and spending 2000 or 3000 to tank all weekend....
I believe quite a few of you are missing the point. So what if some more wealthy people wish to push millions of influence in a weekend by using their own earned money? Wether stolen or legitimate, it shouldn't matter at all. Those of us who have excessive monies available and have the will to pay for it are what allow the rest of us to keep playing for free.
Sure it seems fun to be able to push the influence bar over single-handedly, and to those aforementioned wealthy types, it is. But for me, I'm happy where I am. If I get a bazooka or two I can put about 30,000 damage down. Not a lot but it's enough for me to have a few minutes of kicks on here a day. Keep in mind the battle for London was within 0.01% almost the entire time. Allthough it probably didn't, I take solace in the fact that my 30k mattered.
they made a game, they want money, they are getting money, would you change that if it were you?
