Sweden's new sky high Citizen Fee accepted by the Congress

The Congress of Sweden accepted one of the proposals regarding rising the Citizen Fee to 200 SEK (0.17 gold). The suggestion was accepted yesterday. Citizen Fee is the fee that is given to a newcomer who starts his account in a country.

The discussion about rising the citizen fee lasted for several days. The majority of the Swedish Congress agreed that the Citizen Fee needs to become of better value, but it was uncertain how much it should be.

The original suggestion was to rise the fee to 500 SEK (0.43 gold) but many felt that such high Citizen Fee might attract lots of gold-diggers and multis (people that create several accounts) from different countries around the world. This might not only lead to the Swedish state losing money, but also to a political instability.

Therefore, as a second suggestion to counter the problem with gold-diggers and multis, 200 SEK was proposed as a fee alongside the original fee.

Two days ago, the proposal went for division on the Swedish forum (results here). Its a common practice for the Swedish Congress to in advance vote about different suggestion outside the eRepublik law system. If the congressmen agree on the forum, then the suggestion will be proposed in the game. The tradition is for every congressman to vote “yes” in solidarity to the Swedish democratic system.

Since the proposal with 200 SEK was chosen by the Congress on the forum, yesterday, the Congress took the final and official decision on erepublik.com by accepting the New Citizen fee. The results can be fund here.
