Stop this madness in our Senate NOW!!!
Ranger Bob
I'll tell you what I see...
http://community.auserepublik.com/index.php?topic=19301.msg236006;boardseen#new
I see a valid Senator putting up an idea. People agree or disagree with it. That is democracy. H.Nelson is well within his rights to propose change. Other senators are well within _their_ right to disagree.
Then I see opposed to letting cool heads prevail, it degenerates to a slugging match between individuals, saying blah blah I am smarter, I do more damage, and clear implications people are better eAussies than others.
Just in case you missed it... we are ALL eAussies. Just saying.
As someone that DID once upon a time greatly contribute to the design and operations of our current system, and sits around time and time again to see the same old bickering amongst the same old people - then sees the new folk with almost confused bemusement wondering what the heck is going on...
🙁
Argue the merit of ideas. Ideas shape the future - they don't necessarily destroy the past. If things run some certain way for a number of years doesn't mean you shouldn't keep up with the times. But it sure as heck doesn't mean you should just throw the baby out with the bathwater. So debate the point and come up with the solutions. Agree on them (or at least gain a majority to do so).
Senate I am very dissappoint.

On the issue of Roleplay...
I'm pretty sure:
1. I have never been in a RL congress, been president of a RL country.
2. I am happy to report I will not be likely arrested for murdering a bunch of NZ and Indonesian people in RL as a result of clicking fight on a web page.
3. I can not take my 1,742 AUD in this game and go down the street on a spending spree and purchase an xBox.
4. I actually don't have any gold I could take outside of here and sell at the going RL rate.
Point is if you are raging against Roleplay, I suggest you log out, delete your account and go for a nice walk outside in the real weather. This is a game, ergo, I, you and anyone else here...is roleplaying.
Just thought you outta know.
dude you only have 1742 AUD?
You are right Ranger. I shouldn't have reacted how I did, but the attitudes, the arrogance of some, and the ignorance of others pissed me off a bit. I should have acted and not reacted.
What annoys me the most, however, is a very experienced Senator trying to take advantage of a quarter sized Senate. And I do use the word experienced loosely.
Nonetheless, I have had some time to walk away and cool off, now we will leave it to law and votes. We will see how the votes come out.
Voted.
Witherd, it is not just about how you acted/reacted. Indeed it is not about a single person, hence why I was motivated to post.
A distinct problem was identified at the end of last term. I have introduced a specific amendment to deal with that issue. All of the other guff I don't care if it stays or if it goes. I just don't want to see good Australians subject to censure for doing the right thing.
Witherd1's tirade of swearing and abuse both in the media and in the Senate, and focusing on historical issues is completely counter productive instead of addressing amendments at hand.
Voted. Nelson is entitled to put across his view and people are entitled to debate/agree/disagree and yes do it without abuse. However, he pushes the envelope one too many times when action has been taken. Under his proposal, that power would go virtually unchecked to the Speaker and out of range from the common sense borders we have now. God help us if Senate leadership ever got that sort of power in their hands! Opposition Senators would be relegated to the back benches like last yr.
TJ, you either did not read my proposal or you are trying to deliberately deceive people.
My proposal is clear on the purely administrative role of the Moderator (i.e. Speaker in your terminology).
"The task of the Moderator is to close and archive threads that have run their course and to grant elected officials access to the Congress board."
This is the _real_ common sense approach, not some 10-page long Standing Orders and stuff like that.
And how would that "moderator" be selected without any Legislation to achieve that?
You seem to have not read my proposal either. By a simple majority of Congress members.
Who will host the vote? What happens if there is a tie? What if the moderator doesnt do their job, or takes over the Senate and deletes every discussion a Senator starts?
Without any legislation, there would be nothing stopping the "moderator" from doing this without penalty.
I am trying to point out that you have either not thought this through properly, or dont care about the consequences of what you are suggesting.
"Who will host the vote?" - The previous Moderator.
"What happens if there is a tie?" - Both of them become Moderators.
"What if the moderator doesnt do their job, or takes over the Senate and deletes every discussion a Senator starts?" - He will be removed and replaced by a Congress vote.
All answers are derived from common sense.
There's absolutely no need to legislate every moment of basic processes.
Nelson I'm more than prepared to debate the situation if you drop the BS. Some of the questions raised here are not without merit and by the by->the cause for some of these documents to begin with. Maybe you're right - maybe they don't need to be legislated issue by issue. But there needs to be some principles in place how to deal with it. This is an international community with diff time zones. When would you hold these 'votes'? When your mates are up and at it while the rest of Aus are asleep?
TJ, what BS? I answered every question with reason.
"When would you hold these 'votes'?"
When do we hold them now? Right after the in-game elections.
The question is not 'when' but 'for how long'? For 24 hours, as you would normally think. 24 hours is convenient for everyone no matter which time zones they're in.
"When your mates are up and at it while the rest of Aus are asleep?"
This is nothing but pure deception on your part, I'm disappointed. : (
and again another reason i left eAus
This all probably won't be settled for another month anyway so just take deep breaths and relax.
