Why should I give this tutorial on something that is outside of the game system?
(Please don’t send me ticket for promoting something out of the game system)

Because IRC(Internet Relay Chat) has been functioning as the most popular communication system used by virtually by everybody in eRepublik. It’s a quicker way to resolve issues as to compare with the forum or in game messaging.

Basically we are referring to the Rizon IRC network. You can connect to the Rizon’s qwebirc software HERE at rizon.net/chat.

From there you can straight away put your nickname. You may put any nickname you want; but preferably you use your in game name so that people may recognize you. So if there any space in your name, you may use underscore ( _ )to replace the blank space. i.e: Amli_Cool

For the channel, you may choose any channel you want to join. It’s like a separate conference room where people are gathering. For a start you may go to our public channel: #erepublik.my
As you get familiar to the IRC channels, you may visit other country channels as well, or some military and groups, or even creating your own private rooms.

Registering your nickname
You may want to register your nickname so that other people won’t take your name. It can be crucial to establish your nickname.
For an instance: If you were a CP, you wouldn’t like to see a nonsense interview published in international media, and the guy in the interview is not you.

To register, type in: /msg nickserv register mypassword myemail@something.com
The password should be a least of 5 characters. You will get an email from service@rizon.net with a confirmation code.

Then to confirm, type in: /msg nickserv confirm confirmationCode

BASIC COMMANDS

There are some commands that are used to manipulate around the IRC.

To change your nickname on IRC : /nick newname
(you can change it to anything not registered or currently in use. People do this all the time either to inform their status as AFK or simply doing that for lulz.)

Example: type /nick newnickname (limit 9 characters)
What it looks like: I typed /nick AMLI_FcuK
*** Amli_Cool is now known as AMLI_FcuK

To join a channel: /join #channelname

(You can be in multiple channels simultaneously, that way you can switch page to follow different chat groups without closing the present channel)
Type /join #channelname -- to join a channel of your choice
Example: /join #AMLI_FOR_DUMMIES
What it looks like:

[18:44] *** Now talking in #AMLI_FOR_DUMMIES
--Op-- Dumbguy has joined the channel
[18:44] *** Topic is 'Dummies Help/Chat Channel....All Are Welcome Here!! ®© [ENGLISH]'
[18:44] *** Set by AMLI on Wed May 11 16:1😇4

/me
The /me is an action message.
Type /me 'does anything'
Example: /me kicks Dumbguy’s ass
What it looks like:
* AMLI_FcuK kicks Dumbguy’s ass

/msg
Type /msg nickname (message) to start a private chat.
Example: /msg Dumbguy Hey, have you licked Seanlam’s butt today?
What it looks like:
-> *Dumbguy* Hey, have you licked Seanlam’s butt today?

/query
Similar to the /msg, except it forces a window to pop open.
Type /query nickname (message)
Example: /query Dumbguy Soooo….Seanlam is shitting on your face again eh?
What it looks like:
Soooo…. Seanlam is shitting on your face again eh?

/ignore
Unfortunately, there will be times when you don't want to talk to someone, or else someone may be harassing you.
By typing /ignore nickname , you will not receive anymore messages from that person.
Example: /ignore AMLI_FcuK

/notice
A notice is used to send a short message to another person without opening up a private window:

Type /notice nickname (message)
Example: /notice AMLI_FcuK Please change your nickname for this national channel.
What it looks like:
-> -AMLI_FcuK- Please change your nickname for this national channel.

To leave the channel: /part
To leave all channels: /Partall

/quit
Type /quit to leave IRC altogether. This disconnects mirc from the server.
Example: /quit Going out for entertaining you mother...nite all
What it looks like:
*** Quits: AMLI_FcuK (Leaving)

To reset your password if you forget it: /msg nickserv resetpass nickname
(or if you accidentally type it in a public channel); this will send an email to the email you registered with

To send a private message to someone: /query theirname message
/PAGE or /P [user]
To see whether somebody is online or what channels they’re in: /whois theirname

There are more, you may explore them all better than me.

/HELP - Displays this help screen
/ABOUT - Displays information about the Chat room
/QUIT or /Q - Exit the chat room
/LIST or /L - Lists people on this channel

/WHISPER or /WH [user][message] - Sends a message to a specific user
/SET [variable] [value] - Sets a variable

VARIABLES THAT CAN BE USED WITH THE SET COMMAN😨 (not important to newbies).
ECHO: ON/OFF Sets whether or not you hear what you say
NAME: Used to change your name while still online
SUBJECT: Used to change the subject of the current channel
AWAY: ON/OFF Set if you are away from terminal

USERINFO: User description displayed in user listings

ACCESS LEVELS

Each channel has its own rules for who gets access, but here’s a basic overview of what access levels mean.

Voice:
If the channel is moderated (also known as muted), you can talk. You can also use the .seen command mentioned above.

Half-op:
Can kick and/or ban people with voice and no access, and in some channels can kick other halfops. Can change the topic of a channel.

Op:
Can do everything half-ops can, plus being able to kick/ban other ops. Their greet will show up when they enter the channel (in most channels).

Admin:

Same benefits as op, plus they can kick/ban all users except other admins and the channel owner. Cannot be kicked except by the channel owner. Can add people to the akick (auto-kick) list. Can add people to the access list.

Owner/Founder:
Can kick anyone, has access to all channel configuration options.

CLIENTS

There’s more IRC clients than those listed below, but these are the ones that most eRep players use and are comfortable with.

Mibbit:
The simplest to use besides RIZON's qwebirc, also looks better than qwebirc. It’s another web-based client, so it doesn’t require downloading and installing other software. It’s my personal favorite because I can keep all my eRep info in one browser window this way.

X-Chat:
X-Chat is a stable and highly customizable IRC client with a basic, clean, and utilitarian appearance. Available for Mac OS, Windows and Linux systems that supports multiple IRC servers.description by Hadrian X

Colloquy:
A Mac OS X client. Also supports some scripting.

Pidgin:
A multi-platform, multi-protocol instant messaging client with strong IRC support, and heavy customization including vertical tabs, custom notifications and a diverse plugin library. Additionally, Pidgin's logging capabilities are second to none, with logs rendered in color-aware HTML.description by Necros Xiaoban

Chatzilla:
An add-on for Firefox. “It doesnt throw me off IRC when I don’t want it to, saves whatever channels i want to autojoin, and has a script to auto identify myself. I can put in other scripts to autojoin pw protected rooms. It’s colorful.” Andy Costello

mIRC:
A Windows-only client. Its main distinguishing feature is an advanced scripting language. Available for a 30-day free trial, then $20 after that. “Well, its not the prettiest of versions, but it is very slim and not cumbersome. Has a very good script feature (auto-rejoin, auto-join on invite and things like that). Its my favorite, I've tried them all.” Vanek26

KVIrc:
KVIrc lets you customize your IRC experience visually. It uses windows instead of tabs for channels and private messages. There's even a special feature you can turn on that assigns every nickname a color and background. This makes it a lot easier to recognize people faster, especially if you like color-coding. description by Zyria
