Hey, Stop Wasting Gold
Saya Innsbruck
I am talking about you people with the ads bashing this tax or that person/group. I don't know (or do know) who bought them, but those are even more useless than than Lana, which produce more strength. The only real use for ads is to shout out important info to the hordes that clearly don't read the media, so we have to waste gold on that. I also get it if you want otherwise non-responsive players to get involved into some sort of new organization/party, which can be good because it can retain players.
But ads to tell congressmen to vote this or that? Wtf? I like to vote base on facts, not populist arguments. Or propaganda. Sure, you can throw propaganda out in Phoenix nations, to troll them or whatever; it has its uses. But I am clearly seeing propaganda from Canadian soruces. You waste gold (you know, can be used to help someone buy a house or 2?) to put up ads for articles that:
1. People that cares will have already noticed your article, you twit.
2. People that don't care will still not care.
So ads have 2 final purposes in these cases. One is to stroke someone's massive e-___. The other is to shout so hard that everyone thinks you are right, while screaming negative catchwords on their opponents (note propaganda is often being far more negative to your opponents than being positive on your own position)*, usually comparing them to various high profile corporate or politcal individuals that people hate, or some pointedly evil characters from movies or cartoons. Such ingenunity! Goebbles would be proud.
You might as well put in your article "I'll give you money if you vote and comment!" - at least those gold will go to someone, right? But of course votes aren't the primary thing they are looking for - it's the fact that you want to proof yourself right that matters most.
Unless it's party gold (which clearly you can't spend it on anything else). But then you should be stating DAL/CPF/whatever is backing this or that, because it IS party gold after all.
Oh, and I bolded some elements because apparently shouting your words makes it more pursuavsive. I would bombard my article with more pictures too, but that would be too obnoxious.
*I recognize the irony here, so take this as you will.

Hey I have an idea, stop telling other people what to do with their own money and do your job as a congressperson!
It's an opinion with which I agree.
Sort of... people have freedom, but they should know the cost and benefits of what they do. This lays them out nicely.
Also, I like messages from parties... that promote the government's actual issues and notices... rather than JUST party promotion... the very best. Just add "paid for by XYZ" and you've got both anyway.
(Incidentally, hounding congress members is highly cost effective, since there is an option to target only those 40 people in one country.)
They do, except it's incredibly hypocritical that they are supposedly championing the plights of the e-poor, but at the same time spending gold to really further their own purposes. There's a lot of other ways you can help.
One could argue that 2 gold spent on your paper is also a waste.
Hear Hear Saya!
The newspaper is the only investment in eRepublik that can actually pay you back for your GOLD by creating more GOLD. (Not by taking GOLD from other players, that they created.)
More importantly... it's most of the fun of eRepublik. I think that's your point, though? 🙂
Well said Buck!
Good call Saya!
im giving away more gold btw! noobs get gold if they need it comment on my news or pm me as i have given away 30 already and still have 25 to give away!
I totally agree with you're article. But on the other hand...I think it's kind of nifty that eRep is starting to get lobbyists. Simulation ftw? 😛

...said the congress person
I usually agree with you Saya, but it sounds kinda like you're try protect the domain of your little political cliche from the crass opinions of dumb old commoners.
That old trick about preventing the spending money that the state could put to better use has been tried too, communism anyone?
BOLD CAPS FTW!
Not really, since I am all for regular players to write stuff on the media. But you know, not everyone has time to read every single article, and I think using ads is just cheap shot. Note that I am rarely if ever the target of these ads, so I don't really care directly about it. Furthermore, very often its other congressmen that funds these ads anyways.
You can certainly spend your money however you want but there are dumb ways of spending your money and smart way of spending them. In real life, you can donate your money to the poor or spend them on weed.
