Did you miss me? Gonna shoot for doing a weekly erep radio again. My goal is every friday night. If I forget, feel free to stare at me while I sleep like in Telltale Heart, and then yell at me about forgetting instead of strangling me.
To participate:
1: Comment on this article with a song you want me to play
2: top 3 voted comments are guaranteed to have their songs played in next week's article along with 2 others of my choice
3: the #1 comment each week wins 1000cc!
I may or may not have been diving down a really deep jazz rabbit hole, accented with some 60s folk and some classic country.
I've been going wild with youtube song suggestions following a fallout binge is what I'm saying. Anyway, that's this week's theme.
I'll start us off with a duet from Frank and Nancy Sinatra, "Somethin Stupid". I really admire how well they're able to harmonize with each other. It was a bit of an acquired taste when I first heard it, because I'm not used to hearing either of them sing softly like that, but I grew to like it quick. Here it is

For our number 2, here's Peggy Lee's "Fever". Fun fact I learned from the video comments, she wrote this herself, and the producer thought she was nuts for having nothing more than a bass riff and light percussion to accompany the singing. It turned out pretty damn gud, I think. Enjoy it!

For our number 3, it wouldn't be a folk theme if I didn't play some Johnny Cash, would it? Here's Tennessee Stud.

BONUS who sung it better? Johnny, or Eddy Arnold? I think Eddy's version is more fun to listen to, tbh.

Okay, okay, I'll give you something mainstream that borders on classic rock. The queen of Woodstock singing one of her best known pieces, here's Janis Joplin, "Me & Bobby McGee"

And to leave you off, I'll give you a bit of a punch to the feels. I lost a dog recently, and this song found me at just the right time. I cried like a damn baby when I heard it. Hope this can leave a positive impact on someone else who needs it. Here's the Ink Spots, "We'll Meet Again".

BONUS who sung it better?
J Cash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7QhMZfgHwc
Vera Lynn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsM_VmN6ytk
I like the Ink Spots version best, even though their style gets repetitive fast if you've heard more than 2 of their songs (says the guy with the Johnny Cash profile pic). I usually have a weakness for female singers, but the Vera Lynn version just didn't do it for me, especially the one verse where a whole chorus joined in singing. I like how Johnny had the singspiel interlude in his cover like Ink Spots did, and his chorus verse sounded nicer than Vera's, but still, I think the Ink Spots win this one for me at least. I'm probably biased because that's the first one I heard though.
Anyway, stay jazzy folks! See you around!

Not sure if Johnny and Janis really fit into the jazz category? But who cares. Music is music. Great stuff!
As much as I like Johnny Cash, my vote on "We'll Meet Again" as far as Cash vs. Lynn has to go to Vera Lynn for purely nostalgic, sentimental reasons. But agree the Ink Spots version is better than either.
For interesting and perhaps lesser known dives into jazzy guitar, I'd recommend John Scofield (I like his version of "Jolene", for example) and Charlie Christian ("Gone With What Wind" is fun, not to mention a great song title).
