Boru for Dáil Éireann: The North-West
Brian Boru
In Ireland today, we have many issues, but none as large as the issue of military alliances.
Our president and foreign affairs minister seem content to sell Ireland to an alliance (Fortis) that wishes to diminish our say, and does not recognise the principle of equality and partnership, nor will it respect our wish to remain neutral in wars of aggression.
A quote from the American Secretary for State on the British forums makes this perfectly clear:
"Actually Ireland's MoFA was happy with the new changes to the vote structure and Nith was too. Congress is a different issue, but we'll see."
"Congress" is indeed a different issue, and I intend to insure that the Dáil is fully informed on the consequences of joining Fortis.
The voting system in question would see us having less of a say in the alliance than the US or Spain. Considering that we would not have a veto either, Ireland joining Fortis would be a disaster for our military and for our diplomatic relations with PEACE nations.
And so, I have decided to put myself forward as a candidate for a neutral, independent, united Ireland that is firmly against jingoistic alliances, under the fine banner of the Irish Republican Socialist Party.
In terms of domestic and economic policy, I agree completely with the IRSP on every issue. I also intend to lobby for increased investment and migration to the North-West.

WOOT!! You will get in 🙂
1. Do you know anything you speak of about FORTIS?
2. I've never said I want us to be part of FORTIS
3. And yet despite what you've said, if we did join FORTIS, because of my demands, eIreland will be given more of a say than we were going to be given
So perhaps you should do some research before you start rattling off random facts.
Eamon, the US Secretary of State's quote there blows all of that away, by revealing your contentment with Ireland being given a smaller say within the alliance, and revealing your contentment to join Fortis in the first place.
What are you talking about Boru? I have said time and time again that I don't want us to join FORTIS but in the event that we do, I want us to have the most say that we possibly can. "Ireland being given a smaller say within the alliance"...that statement is completely wrong and I have no idea what you are talking about.
"...that statement is completely wrong and I have no idea what you are talking about."
You know perfectly well what I'm talking about:
Weighted voting.
We were supposed to get 1 vote, I got them to agree that we would be on par with the UK and Canada with 2 votes. Only the US and Spain have more votes at 3. I brought up equal voting and that was flat voted down. I never once said that we should join FORTIS and as MoFA it is my job that when the FORTIS vote is put forth to the Dail, eIreland has the most say available. Research your 'facts' Boru.
"I brought up equal voting and that was flat voted down."
Then you should categorically tell them that Ireland will not join, that we will operate independent defence agreements with each of them, and pull out of the negotiations.
There is absolutely no point in continuing unless we get an equal vote, which they have made clear that isn't going to happen.
You seem to have failed your duty that Ireland has the most say available if we are still inferior to other members. The same must be said of the UK and Canada, they should be demanding a full say as well.
You really should never be considered for MoFA.
