UKRP Official Announcement 19/04/09 – Our new party president
As most people in the UK recall, on 15th April 2009 a newcomer named Marcus Antonius Varias entered the party president race in the UK Reform Party. This was met with contradicting feelings as MAV was only three days old when he announced his candidancy. By running a successful campaign he managed to convince people of his motives and gained a landslide of votes, making him the party president of the UKRP. Some people were angry of this, some saw this as a revolution of new blood taking over the oldest party of eUK. Then, upon winning elections, the newly elected leader Marcus Antonius Varias disappeared. He had promised he will bring change to the party, revigourise it with guidance of experienced members.
Regardless of Marcus Antonius Varias short deeds as party president, his elections caused a surge of activity within the party and internal reforms have taken place. Today, approximately 0900-1000 erep time a new turn took place. Marcus Antonius Varias resigned as party president and certacito, the longest standing and most experienced UKRP congressman was selected as our new official party president. We congratulate certacito for his position but in light of the election results and certacito's already monopolized time, the party is currently being led by Acting Party President Arthur Wellesley, who came second in the PP elections.
A further statement from Arthur Wellesley will be forthcoming.

Well done Sara and I look forward to hearing from Wellesley in the future 🙂
Hmm.
will teh new leader announce something about the limerick competition?
funky and i were the judges of that, he meant to pass on our judgement to th eperson responsible hear from us soon.
I announce the Penguin as a contender. If you could all send me the limeriks I shall deal with this.
It was with a certain amount of disbelief and amazement that I logged in the my Erepublik account this evening (after a busy day in 'family mode') to find myself elevated to the role of UKRP Party President.
Like many, I was uncomfortable with the chain of events over the past week in which a totally unknown individual with less than a week of eUK lifetime managed to become elected as Party President.
I am currently unsure of the detailed chain of events that led to MAV's retirement as yet, but will investigate and report back to the eUK Party Forums any inormation gleaned.
I would like to reassure Party members that the UKRP *IS* in safe hands and that I will be working closely with Arthur, Stefan, and the rest of the team to prepare ourselves fully for the oncoming Congressional Elections and then the Presidential elections.
I look forward to conversing with UKRP members, both current and future in the eUK Forums [ http://forums.erepublik.co.uk ]

What was wrong with Marcus? Has new evidence come to light or was the democratically elected leader forced out?
The current theory is that he resigned of his own volition.
I hope to talk with him personally shortly to get his story.

Really very strange indeed. Who made the decision for certacito to take up office? (Not that I disagree, obviously the natural choice.) I'm just querying the procedures.
Vote Asahel Nettleton for Congress (South East) 🙂
The highest person in the party takes up the role
If you think about it, this procedure has an inherent stability built into it - the chances of a multi or foreign plant qualifying under these criteria are highly unlikely. Also, long standing Party members have proved themselves to be reasonably resilient and unlikely to quit!
So - let us now focus on making sure that we have a full spread of quality candidates with consistently high quality manifestoes in place for the congressional elections on the 25th - and a strong candidate for the Presidential elections!

"Safe hands"
It actualy could have worked out better 🙂
Okay I am quite new to the party and this was my first leader vote but this is an outrage. I voted for Marcus because I believed he was the right person for the job and who would take this party forward.
Obviously I was either mistaken or something has happened behind the scenes that we are unaware off.
From an exremely dissapointed new member of the party. I look forward to a full explanation and report!
