Enter the Doldrums
Faeyas
There is a reason I have not written a single article since the last CP elections. Many of you have noticed.
Japan is dead, boring, and inactive.
The only ad that has pertained to our country being shown to us has been one about a new party of pedo bears and a yellow sign desperately pleading for us all to vote Geno that hasn't gone down even after the election concluded.
The articles, including this one, are all melancholic and full of despair over where our fun and vibrant game, where anything was possible and creative solutions to straight foreword issues colored our imaginations creating a fun experience, went. Furthermore the unlikely chance that it shall ever return.
***Admins and eRepublik as a Whole***
The Admins have declared that the new military model is to be praised if turns were slightly faster and less gold was needed, failing to realize exactly how bias their questionnaire was by only defining these issue points in the questions themselves, speed of turn and cost. while providing non issues as mere other options. No comment was made of various points that may have been added as misc issues in the essay sections of the survey, and true problematic areas to the new "rising" game were mysteriously left out of the choices one could select from.
They have wrongfully analyzed the situation, bringing me very little hope that they will actually manage to make anything of this game for those of us who loved it so. Who knows, this may be a desperate attempt to totally replace current players with a new batch of more naive players who wont question their every choice, or hold them nearly as accountable as we currently do. Not to mention the full capability to exploit us for more money by creating add in uses for gold as the only means to do "better" in this game. This BTW completely ignores what was obvious dislike for a similar situation under the military module PRE Rising.
eRepublik is well on its way to becoming a useless money drop like so many other sites while losing the sense of community it once held. I almost feel sorry for the creators since they don't appear to notice. But then less so because I realize we are all shouting this and yet not one of them is listening.
***eJapan***
Full of self proclaimed trolls and more inclusive and xenophobic people than any country in RL, eJapan has become a boys club that fears nothing more that talent coming in from anywhere but the current group of leadership. Do not let your eyes be fooled. The CP is not part of this group. They prefer to lead by fear and by what else? Trolling. They actively taint our communal areas with bickering, lewd commentary, and active trolling of those who are not a part of their "group".
They make the country a hostile environment for anyone other than themselves and are happy that everyone is leaving, not realizing that this is precisely the reason for so many issues in eJapan today, including the heavy lack of activity that they themselves admit is an issue. Yet they fail to realize that because of their exclusivity and their constant attacking of others, they alienate everyone else into not wanting to be active.
Then to further troll these people, they blame them for not being active while proclaiming themselves very active.
It is similar to hitting someone with their own fist and telling them to stop hitting themselves. While funny for them, it makes none of us want to be anywhere near them. Add this on top of the horrible upset with eRepublik as a whole and it is no wonder we all live in a ghost country that we don't even want to bother reviving.
***What next?***
The point of a game is to have fun. None of us have a responsibility to this game, we are not being paid and beyond time and energy we have not invested anything (I hope.... *looks at those who may have given money😉
. It is like other free forms of entertainment. Once it stops being fun you leave it alone. Move on. Find something enjoyable, and enjoy that.
Doing something that upsets you or bores you, or basically wastes your time is exactly that. A waste of time. Furthermore I would check your sanity levels.
The only things here that are good and fun and worth saving anymore are the very things WE as players created. Our community, our friendships, or rivalries, and our sense of accomplishment together and as a group.
If we want to rescue those there are ways outside of this game I personally would rather look into. Because at the moment this game is no fun and that itself is putting a strain on and destroying the only good things that remain.
To my friends in the SOS brigade, we have fought long and hard together to bring our party to where it stands today. We sought activity, fun, and community. While doing so it seems that all of those have been stripped away from us by outside sources, and all that remains is the activity in our selves, our community of our history, and the fun times of our memories.
So I ask of you all: What is next?
Thank you, and welcome to the Doldrums.
-Fae
tl;dr
eRepublik fails. eJapan fails. Thus we are bored. So what next?
Comments
You can't use ANY tags atm so no image and no bolding. Sorry it looks more wall of text this way.
You're welcome to express your opinion, but I still feel it is wrong. That is all.
I think you are right about some things and wrong about others. It is true that the constant trolling that seems to pervade this game is causing some to be less active or just quit. I do think people fail to realize that if they make an environment hostile, no one will want to be around them. That said, fuck it, people need to have thick skins. If they don't like an environment, they can try another one. Hell, that's why I moved from the eUS to eJapan.
Concerning eRepublik, if they get the bugs fixed, I'm fine with it and actually prefer some aspects of it over V1. I like the fact that glory whores can't be as wonderful on the battlefield as they once were. This game may have more gold sinks but these gold sinks will not buy people glory like lana once promised during V1.
I will say the current hacking situation does suck dickbutt and has the potential of ruining the game if they can't fix this shit. Still, I don't think things are as dire as you paint them.
It's true that the eJapan community is devolving and disappearing. But with the withdrawal of those who want it to be something better, will it ever improve? Should the silent majority continue to accept the abuses of a small clique as truth?
We can't change reality without the will to do so.
"Full of self proclaimed trolls and more inclusive and xenophobic people than any country in RL, eJapan has become a boys club that fears nothing more that talent coming in from anywhere but the current group of leadership. Unfortunately, this is part of Interneticana, which is far more trollish than anywhere in RL (but fortunately it's just a game). If the rest of eJapan stands up to them, they'll usually go away. My favorite quote from one of the trolls is from Millie Angelfire (former eNorth Korean-turned eJapanese-now-turned-eNorth-Korean again), from this article:
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/caution-wild-ideas-inside-1405224/1/20">http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/caut[..]1/20
"Well, I have to hand it to you, Kita. You've stuck around for a long time."
This statement pretty much makes it clear what the intent of the original eNorth Koreans. PTO? How can it be PTO if you chased everyone else in the country out because, as a group, they never really had anything interesting to say to anyone else anyway, except "GTFO." 🙂
Good luck reactivating interest in the game!
>Implying than Danyeo and ISP had nothing to do with the PTO's that drove everyoneout
mmmmm drama.
Competent is measured by result, not self-claimed knowitallism. Results like the recent eJP/eSK war which was supported by you and others for example, would you call that the shining example of your competence.
_
Futhermore, what's the point of "winning" all the argument/logic/action, when the end result isolated a large group of players who were remotely active, does this make our community stronger perhaps? Instead of going forward through some sort of cooperation. All these so called "winnings" did apart from your personal instant gratification was to destroy whatever community it accumulated over time.
_
It is correct that v2 played a role for the mess we are in, but this does not negated the role of the trolls played in it, Japan has been dying, bored for a long time, it just got a lot worst recently, perhaps it is because the game got boring under v2?
_
As you rightly said, Japan has the major disadvantage that it lacks the support of a RL community element, community building has to be done within what we can muster online in game, or in IRC. Even you understood the difficulties, you did everything you could to alienate others, as shown by your lol PTO of the Black Knight for example. The bottomline is you value your personal enjoyment of the game over the wellbeing of the community.
_
Do you hate eJapan?
I think you do.
It's easy to ignore trolls... If they bother you, perhaps you should try fixing the problem on your end.
I agree (as does most everyone) about the major f-up by admins... I think Japan would be still going strong if not for V2.0.
Maybe you could clarify, Vai Siv, what you mean by "problem on our end."
Fae, thanks for the article. This problem has been going on for a long time. I think it's possible to have a close-knit community again but it's hard when people get flamed simply for not joining the bandwagon that's jumping to conclusions. That said, "troll" is a misnomer. Trolls argue just to argue. The group you are talking about argues to bully their opponents and intimidate them into silence or agreement.
It doesn't help when people who are normally good-hearted join their bandwagon because they get swept up in the heat of the moment. Thinking of Geno here. But at least he's trying.
I like swords.
Its not just you Faeyas. I don't think the "self-proclaimed" trolls are the problem.
It's the game. V2 is complete and utter shit-
>Maybe you could clarify, Vai Siv, what you mean by "problem on our end."
I think you know what I mean.
Some people get easily upset.
"Results like the recent eJP/eSK war which was supported by you and others for example, would you call that the shining example of your competence."
You mean the war that was ENTIRELY Danyeo's idea in the first place? TRSV and some others may have championed the cause once it was out there, but the majority of us "trolls" thought the whole thing was fucking retarded and a number left Japan or eRep entirely because of it.
I like swords. X2
I'm partial to bats, though a shovel will do a in pinch.
Swords are nice, I like swords x3
I was attempting to get everyone to realize that petty bickering was not the answer and that to save eJapan we would need to set aside such issues and come together and stop fighting and trolling each other.
Ironically this is the most active eJapan has been in a while, and all it is, is everyone fighting again.
Actually, it strikes me that people are working together to argue against your idiocy.
cat>pelican
no contest.
Bored.
"cat>pelican
no contest."
Truer words have ne'er been spoken.
I just assumed the trolls she referred to were the bands of tools who were banning everyone who were not agreeing with them on Coldfront. They are pretty much the prime example of what is community breaking and alienation.
Oh, and Kita. Can't forget the guy who constantly rehash stuff that happened a year ago and that has been debunked ten times over yet still talk of it as if it's something new and fresh.
Faeyas will you eDate me?
チンピラ
Vai Siv is correct: people should have a little thicker skin.
That said, Sophia Forrester is also correct: there's a group of players (not just eJapan, but also eUSA, and probably most other major countries or their dominated aatellites) that bully/shout down opposition. If this happens when you confront them, see what Vai Siv said.
One of the great things about eRep is some of the similarities with real life politics (special interest groups working for outside forces, nationalist, etc.) If people get intimidated and walk away in an internet game, think about what this might do in real life.
I thought it was hilarious when Adavek outed Dokomo as an eUSA schill with the screenshots he posted in the national forums. The FoH guys trolled him and even kicked him out of their gamer guild, AND THEN Adavek *left* eJapan. Why?? It was just getting interesting. The debate/counter-debate (often misidentified as trolling) is what makes this game interesting (you don't really play because you actually like that v1 "wall" crap, do you?).
"Why??"
Probably because he didn't expect us to post the unedited conversation which included Adavek's own posts that he removed when he did his 'leak.' On top of that, nobody but you and the people who still had their heads shoved all the way up PEACE's ass cared about what was in that conversation. I think he was disappointed in the end that he got ragged on for being a little bitch and his actions didn't even amount to anything.
Also, Adavek was never in the guild. As we've said numerous times, the only current/past FoH guild members who played eRep for more than a week or two are Vinen, Aogo, and me. He did lose his ability to post because taking screenshots from a private forum pissed off the site's owner, who also has never played eRep. He just takes his websites very seriously.
More blog entries plz.
""He did lose his ability to post because taking screenshots from a private forum pissed off the site's owner, who also has never played eRep. He just takes his websites very seriously.""
I'd sooner piss in Jesus' cheerios than mess with Requiem.
That comic right here describes the guy pretty well:
http://xkcd.com/705/
Kita, some being a dipshit. You've been proved wrong about those posts so many god-damn times it's hilarious you keep thinking it's the truth. Adavek got booted from the forum because the Admin wanted him gone and because he was a dipshit. The fact that he edited the the evidence he posted to remove himself from it is just further proof his intelligence is on par with a dog's. And the reason Adavek left Japan wasn't because we were trolling him, it's because he lost any goodwill and trust from the community, excluding nutjob conspiracy theorists.
Further, if you actually believe that Dokomo was a schill for the US, then Exreality is a schill for Poland as well, since he just swapped Kyushu to get them into Asia. Why don't you campaign for President on the fact that Ex is a Polish PTO? I notice now that a member of the ISP is doing the land swapping, you and your group of sheep are as silent as a grave, coming forward only to launch attacks at the FoH-Spectre you so blindly cling to.
Your hypocrisy is boundless, and further illustrates what a horrible a person you are turning into.
Personally I thought Kita's hypocrisy was pretty awesome when he was blaming foh for the danyo (ISP) led invasion of South Korea, but gotta admit he managed to one up himself by being silent on the latest Kyushu swap.
Damn it, lost my comment. I knew the moment I hit 'post', I was going to lose it. So, here it is in summary:
Until V2 is fixed to be more playable, we have to do something out-of-game to make things interesting. V1 was barely interesting by itself; if it weren't for the drama caused by people in IRC, the forums, and the newspapers, nobody - not even me - would have been interested in it. Two- or three-clicking got real boring, real fast. Community was the only thing keeping it interesting.
Drama. Need moar. xD
I watched both Haruhi series and I can't understand why you guys like it. It was absolutely terrible, I want my weekend back.
If cat is greater than pelican, and shovel is greater than bat, is foh greater than Kyushu drama? The world may never know...
"I watched both Haruhi series and I can't understand why you guys like it. It was absolutely terrible, I want my weekend back."
Were you like, "Well the first 26 episodes blew ass, but I'm sure these last two will turn it around for Haruhi!!!" or what?
