[TH]n Where to start a company

Day 587, 13:43 Published in Thailand New Zealand by Thingol

Sometimes I get asked by one of my fellow citizens if I can give recommendations on starting his own company, and sometimes we are having this topic addressed in one of the Thai newspapers, too. The usual answer from me or from one of the other experienced businessmen is:

Don't start a company in Thailand!

Today I am going to show you enough numbers to prove the truth of this sentence.
I have collected the data from Erep Tools and made a simple Excel sheet to calculate the ratio of citizens per company.

The result is:
Out of 56 existing countries, Thailand has the third-worst ratio!
Only Ukraine and Norway are worse ...

Of course there are a few factors that are not counted in this simple analysis: How many companies are out of operation, and how many citizens are inactive or dead. I did not calculate the numbers of construction companies separately, what I should do in a detailed analysis because the construction companies need 20 employees for maximum efficiency. Hence there may be a deviation from the real economy ... but still the numbers show nicely where are good countries to start a new business. Of course the new countries of South America are not yet overloaded with companies.

Top of the list is Colombia, followed by Uruguay, Latvia, Serbia, Paraguay, and Bolivia.

I remember that we had once a wave of immigrants from Serbia because people could not find a job there. So what we can learn from the numbers, too, is where we should post articles to try some recruiting.

I have already acted according to this knowledge and started a company in Uruguay. You may try Colombia as its population is higher.
