This alliance doesn't try to replace the big alliances - it just aims to give small nations something extra that the big alliances simply don't focus on. It's already had results in other nations where we have been able to pool resources and connections to help in tough situations.

I'm sorry, but this idea does not appeal to me :/

The beauty of an alliance such as ONE is that there will be an equal focus amongst member nations. In the larger alliances, most of the money and manpower goes to one or two large nations, leaving smaller nations in the dust.

The question: Does it work?

I don't like the idea too.
Why should we join an alliance if it's for having relations we could have without this alliance ?
That doesn't make sens for me.

But it's a good thing to discuss about that.

Will you have a new friendship with Belgium if we aren't in the alliance ? I think not.

It's not just for a banal friendship, but for a friendship who will stay for months and months. It's to have friends who will come if we say "help", and you don't have this kind of friendship if you aren't in the same alliance 😉

As an aid to nations it has worked. Small nations all face very similar problems - threats of invasions, threats of takeovers - and for the most part we've faced them alone. The aim of this is to pool resources, experience, and of course soldiers where possible to face these challenges. And though its pretty new, we've had quite a few opportunities to put this in action.

Nobody is saying it will make problems disappear with the snap of a finger, but its certainly an additional way to help. Nations aren't required to leave other alliances, they aren't required to fight against other alliances (and can opt out if they must due to other obligations.) For nations that are often helped by the other alliances only when its in their strategic interests, this can be a real benefit to have a group that will always be helping you in ways that it can.

It sounds like a good idea, assuming it works. And if it doesn't work but there's no member cost or other requirements, no harm done. Switzerland fits into it excellently geographically, since we border Austria which in turn borders the Czech Republic, and are close to Belgium. Maybe it could eventually grow into an EU sort of thing, much like the RL EU in terms of motivation, to develop our own thing rather than being dominated by the U.S. or Russia.

We small nations have long been kicked around by larger nations, if not used as pawns in plays between them. It is time time for the smaller nations to band together and show the big bullies of eRepublik that we can fight back!

The one problem I have with this is that it would obviously prevent us from conquering eAustria, but with this alliance here we can't conquer it anyway whether we're part of the alliance or not, so I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Conquering eAustria wasn't much of a serious idea anyway, at least not in a fully hostile manner.

Actually, it doesn't make any sens for small nations to be together. Economy exchange could be done without an alliance, help for PTO won't work because PTO use multies and finally as long as there is no reduction of the price for MPP, singing an MPP with a small country is an error.
I'd love the game to be more balanced but that's not the case actually.

F4uc0n : Actually Austria is in War with Italy, this is a very good occasions to have wars in our country and have some actions and to really do, for one time in this game, some strategic battles and to help a friend.
For the PTO, they can help in invading our regions, like Finland did with Norway.

And for all, as I said, actually, eSwitzerland doesn't have real good friends who we can count of, we just have some allies with the EDEN alliance. THIS CAN CHANGE ! If we enter this alliance we will build a real friendship who will survive for months and months, wathever government has the power, and we will have someone who will help us, even if they are small countries, it's better than nothing!

Pourquoi pas... mais faudrait qu'en cas de besoin, un pays agressé donne MT et armes en nombre aux alliés pour qu'ils puissent se battre a leurs cotés. ainsi on évite de payer des MPP.

Es freut mich, dass es dieses Mal auch kritische Stimmen zu einem Regierungsartikel gibt.

Guys we aren't joining this alliance to sign MPP's...We join this alliance for better economical rise up...

We can trade with them without beeing in the same alliance.

Just because PTO's use multis does not mean help will not work. Combining resources to find and report multis can (and has) helped in the past - and without it Austria would still be taken over today. Economic exchange could be done without an official association of nations, sure, but this is a framework for cooperation which can help facilitate it and make it easier - along with every other service it offers. Putting presidents, MoFA's, and other officials all in one place where they can talk to each other will be very useful for helping all of the aims of this alliance to succeed. In the same way, an alliance like EDEN isn't "totally necessary" as nations could cooperate militarilly in that way without an alliance structure... it would just be harder and less efficient.

And given that all of the things ONE is offering -could- have been done before, but -weren't- done, its pretty clear that you cant just expect these things to fall in place. You have to make an effort, whether its to share knowledge on how to face takeovers, share connections with groups that can help in battle, share economic knowledge/tactics/forming trade agreements - ONE is aiming to do these things and find nations who are interested in them. Its a facilitator.
