The trait a US President should have the most is the ability to be steadfast.

When people mock you, when you're friends turn on you, and when Parties don't support you you must not move yourself. Moving yourself will show people you can't stick it out on the tough criticisms of the job as a President.

It shows weakness to people like Ronald Gipper, and his kind eat that up like Spaghetti on a warm winters day.
When people are looking at you to be clear and concise on your actions you can't go back and forth. When you do it opens your administration like a rip in fabric and will actually only damage it more.
It also tells your cabinet that even though they helped you with planning this operation you went back on them and gave in to people.
As president you must not go back, only forward, if you are making the right choice.

Be steadfast.
Being the POTUS is not easy but someone has to strap in for the flight.
