Ragnell for President: Policies and Goals

Day 2,387, 11:20 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Ragnell

NB: Wall of text

Following up from my opening article, which addressed the two key planks of my proposed government, as well as the ATO operation, this article will cover my standard policies, especially my proposed policy towards Sirius.

After the publication of this article, I will be finalising my cabinet. However, there is still a chance for you! Just pop your application here and you will be considered. o7

Foreign Affairs and Defence
This past month has been rather tumultuous in regard to Foreign Affairs, especially with Sirius stuttering, and the eUSA’s exit. While the Americans’ departure will hopefully stabilise things within the alliance, it is now particularly important for us to prepare an exit strategy in case the worst comes to be and Sirius eventually collapses.

However, the eUK has been working on relations with its closest neighbours, with success to the extent that a pact of sorts is now being worked on. Establishing a core of reliable allies is now particularly important, especially with the strained relationships within Sirius, as well as its issues. I will aim to strengthen and improve those relations, with a number of co-operative ventures, such as the joint strike ACroc carried out during the earlier stages of his term, and encouraging the Department of Entertainment to arrange joint competitions.

Basically, the objective of my proposed government will be to maintain and improve those close relationships further, while/until the countries of Sirius sort their mess out and start reaffirming their priorities and allies. The reality is, it is difficult for us to be diplomatically certain where we stand in this eWorld until Sirius either reaffirms itself or collapses. In the event of a collapse, the big (ex-)members will start pushing their strategies, and we will have to act based on the resulting geopolitics. During this window of uncertainty, solidifying the relations we have been developing will provide both a safety net, and potentially a strong core of friendship for the future.

In cooperation with this, the MoD will continue to be active daily and release a stream of orders, and look to arrange a few co-operative strikes with full dispatch. Of course, there are no actual plans for a training war (resistance wars in Norway are sufficient for now), but if the opportunity arises, we will certainly consider it. With the uncertainty in Sirius, any training war would be a greater risk than usual.

All this aside, tying in with my theme of communication, the Foreign Affairs department will aim to deliver a number of articles covering external events – deputies will research and write up those things as well as participating in our decision-making process. The MoD will likewise continue with its regular practice of releasing battle orders articles.

tl;dr
• Start shoring up our position in case Sirius doesn’t survive, while being committed to the alliance
• Solidifying the improved relations with neighbours (eg. further pursuing co-op strikes)
• Article galore (hopefully)

Covering Domestic Affairs

Recap of Last Article
Seeing as it covered quite a lot of domestic issues, I will be looking to recap my first campaign article, briefly:

• Sit down with Vendetta and offer opportunity for them to be positive
• Strong focus on communication and openness
• Q&A Sessions
• Suggestions Box

Finance
After the drama of last month, I don’t intend to push any financial policies - instead, I will look to budget our spending. While the government already finances mutual protection pacts (which will need to be organised and prioritised based on actual necessity) and often training grounds (in the event of an offer), we will also look to possibly fund resistance wars in Norway occasionally, for TP and BH medals. In addition, as I am keen on more joint strikes, the Finance ministry will also look to put aside a set amount on this.

Of course, with the whole theme of communication, I am looking to deliver two financial reports, one mid-term and one end-term report. It is a necessity for the eUK to be clear on the state of our finances.

Education
It’s safe to say that the Education department has been totally lacking in presence in the media lately, the usual activity of the department needs to be restored. While general tutorials and guides have been done to death already (and we have Kravenn’s tutorial), this month we will aim to deliver tutorials on specific concepts. For the sake of an example, an in-depth guide on what each governmental department is generally responsible for. We will also look to reprint excellent MoEd articles which are still relevant today (with due credit to the writer ofc). In addition, Madelina de Melrose has done a decent job on the eBrit University, though I will look to publicise this a lot more in the media.

Entertainment
The Entertainment department need to be far more visible, especially with the ATO going on. In my time here in the eUK, I haven’t seen much activity emerge out of this department (other than the occasional article). Despite the issues of last month’s attempt to arrange a co-operative exercise with other countries, I’m willing to give another shot at this. For example, eIreland and eIndia recently held a collaborative quiz with great success. Ultimately however, any events and suchlike is entirely the prerogative of the minister.

I have presented my full platform - my cabinet will be released presently. Again, I’d just like to say good luck to Appleby and look forward to a good race. o7

Cheers,
Ragnell
