President Warmr

Altijd trouw,
Sirvodka
English:
The Netherlands is occupied by Poland. Apparently this fact still doesn't give the government much sense of urgency as the organization is still as messy as ever.
Thus, as we await our promised freedom, I'd like to take this opportunity to write about what I've learned so far from Dutch politics, the current government and the difference between leading an army and leading a country.
Allow me to start with a peculiar case of how the government thinks to cut down on the massive costs weighing down our country.
Currently on the forum there is a debate ongoing regarding subsidies. The minister of Finance, Auggustus, first idea was actually to remove the raw subsidy altogether. I believe this idea isn't bad (as the market is ruined already anyway) so I calculated how much this would actually save us.
In less than 2 minutes I've calculated how much ALL subsidies cost us last month and it was about 1.1% on the total budget.
1.1% in order to help a country grow, while a clean 50% of the budget goes straight to the military without any kind of control?
To me this doesn't mean we have to cut the subsidies, this means we have to review the subsidies in order to come up with new solutions to shape our country's future.
Yet the first thing President Garmr does is to go on the defensive and state that we shouldn't expect anything from the Dutch people. It would be unethical to provide subsidies if you expect anything back.
I don't know if President Garmr has been paying attention, but that is exactly what a subsidy is for. You create a subsidy to make the country stronger and if it focuses on the feeling of community then it is a normal and possibly even highly effective subsidy!
Yet again, President Garmr doesn't respond with solutions or alternatives, he responds with narrow mindedness and a clear loud NO to any idea that would profit the Dutch people, even if the idea originated from his own Minister of Finance!!
But should we just stop at reviewing the subsidies? Isn't it also a great idea to create checks and balances in the murky areas of military spending? Because how do we know if that money isn't being pocketed by a few corrupted officials? How can we know?
This government is lead by an experienced warhero, but not one that is right for the country. People want salvation from the Polish and expect a strong man like President Garmr to get it for them. But while he's on his quest to save the country he actually forgets all about it.
We have to ask ourselves, are we being governed by a Military Junta? One that flew over from the USA last week, spoke some hopeful words to the people and now cannot fulfill that promise? From what I've heard is that the new government is already in a bit of disarray because of missing passwords.... what does this mean for the rest of the short month?
I believe President Garmr is a respected (albeit elitist) warhero and I believe his qualities would be best served as the leader of some sort of elite Army unit. He's a strategist at heart and know how to handle himself on the battlefield.
In politics, on the other hand, he has absolutely no reason to be, as he would always place the army above the people.
So ask yourself:
Is this government here for the country.... or because of the medals?
Your's faithfully,
Sirvodka

Sirvodka, stop making political cheap shots here. We all knows that this is an congress issue and not the sole doing of Garmr. While Garmr can vote on it stop blaming blaming him on answers you do not like. The congress debate is still young and it is far from being over. Is populism and mud throwing the best you can do? I can see now that the 😮pposition" is willing to take cheap shots now to get what they want.
Please stop reverting to your old rhetoric, Neumann, as the accusations of "cheap shots and populism" are getting old and quite frankly hypocrite, as you're doing exactly what you accuse the opposition of.
The debate is far from over and I would expect a more constructive attitude from both yourself and the President.
And Garmr, your attempt to question my knowledge is nothing more than meek attempt of character assassination. I would expect more from a President
Clever words will hide a lack of knowledge. Why should I respond to public claims if you didn't even bother to find out the actual facts behind them.
@Konra😛 Are you seriously lecturing someone on perceived mudthrowing and cheaps shots? How *very* interesting.
Although I would not have published this article, nor support the entire content of it, I see no problem in it either. Everyone has freedom of speech, and can say what he likes as long as it not plain rude or untruthful (carefully read that last sentence please, Konrad! 😁).
But indeed, let's have the rest of this debate in Congress, where it truly belongs for the time being.
Bit annoying that a discussion / idea is shot down like this. This way no new player will ever be happy in eNetherlands, since we cannot even discuss normally right now.
SirVodka is pushing for a policy that has a successful rate of 16 percent. He still continues to support a failing policy that does not bring more people to the game but waste money. Since Jan 2012, 25 newbies got subsidies and only 4 are active. I believe that a policies with a 16 percent rate should be dropped as it shows there is no causal relationship between subsidies and getting newbies active. Instead of throwing money away as SirVodka wants, we should be smart with our spending.
So SirVodka the one who expects a "better" tone but goes and write articles that attacks the CP and titles this article as "President Warmr." Where is your respect? Is that a good tone for a debate? Look at the mirror please.
zucht.... ga iets nuttigs doen kinderen, buiten bloemetjes plukken ofzo.
Mr Neumann, sigh, you're quoting the results of the old subsidies and that's not what I want. Have you been misunderstanding me on purpose?
this article can be deleted?
See forum topic... enough clear arguments are given now 🙂
If you ever served as a CP or MoD etc, you would learn that social spending is not important and 1 percent is pretty normal. In eBE at times they spend about 75 percent of their income in the military. The military should get most of the moneys. Most spending should be based on the military/ defense related expenditures. Nooby subs is not needed.
You know what. I'll give you two facts against this article.
1. The budget allocated to Defense has been the same for many months now. Why complain about it right now and not last month against a CP from your own party?
2. I am cutting ineffective subsidies. The money saved form this will be reinvested in a sensible program that will benefit the entire population, not just a fraction that goes to the forum.
If anything, my plans are counter-elitist.
*popcorn time*
@Konrad, I have to disagree. Though social spending is not a large part of the game, it SHOULD be larger than it is now. The Netherlands have a lot of subsidy programs, but they all rely on the forum. Giving people subsidies that are not on the forum would motivate them to go there. It's like letting a dog smell on a bone and then throw it into your neighbor's garden with his prize winning flowers. The dog will follow, the people will visit the forum.
@Garmr, that sounds hopeful. What does this plan look like? I fully agree when you say that some subsidies are ineffective, but cutting them before this new program is started might be a bit... stupid? It would cause a gap... Looking forward to see what you have in mind. It better be good. :- )
@garmr, two things against your comment
1. Any question can be raised at any time - it is the duty of any CP to give answers as it is the money of all citizens we are talking about. And please snap out of these same old party politicics rhetorics... it's getting old while a lot of new players are just joining politics without even knowing if you are in the same party.
2. Come on, the few bucks you save on these subsidies will not be noticed if you have some serious plans here 😉
@ Zeeuwsmeisje
There is a beautiful quote under every one of my forum posts. ''You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.'' I give a good answer to good questions.
Look at the forum for point two, by the way.
If you look at the stats, social spending does not bring more noobs and players active. 16 percent shows that this line of thinking is no longer valid. We are at war with Poland. Most of our lands are occupied and we should save money now so that we have extra resources when the time for us to reclaim our territories come. Giving even a little NLG to some noobs etc does not help our situation here. How is giving 2000 NLG or increase social spending so that they can buy storage helps eNL?
We need to save as much money as possible and spend more of our resources to our military/ defense efforts like Mercs and resources, social spending now is an luxury that we really cannot afford. We cannot afford more social spending that does not work, and in war time situation like this, defense should be our main focus. If this was peacetime and things were different, I would support more social spending due to the idea of it. Now is not the time for that. We should focus on the military.
@Konra😛 Defense gets 50% of the budget and now 1% of it is a problem? What about the other 49%? If Defense is having a hard time, raise that 50% to 60% or even 75%, I don't care. Social spening does have a possible influence for the country. People that started playing eRep were incredibly positive about the whole subsidy shit. I am sure they are more motivated to keep playing now that they are being helped.
(By those people I mean the people that started via me, I don't know about others.)
@Konra😛 I wonder where your 16% exactly comes from? How do you count someone as 'active'? If they visit the IRC or the forums, if they reach their DO every day, or by simply logging in daily working/training/fighting? If it's the first, you might be right, if it's another, the percentage will most definatly be higher.
Most of the current subsidies are there to help all players, IRC/forum active or not. As most subsidies only influence in-game stats like a bigger storage or more RAW's.
And for the record, I'm not against changing the current subsidies. But some people do not wish to be part of the IRC/forum community, but still contribute to our efforts in-game by fighting and trading. It's something to be kept in mind when coming up with new idea's.
@Mattio: Look at the financial stats in Gdoc, Social spending for the past six months has a 16 percent success rate on new players. These numbers does not warrant more social spending but to have more tutorials and mentor style assistance. I would bet that of the 16 percent, people like Straatpup is active not because of subsidies. I do not support giving noobs cash. If there are noobs in physical needs, I say give them food and weapons, Our spending should be the military in war.
@Piet: It is in the forums but the number of total newbies minus Mattio (he is not new but restarting) and their levels of activities in forums and IRC. I find it strange that even by your own admission that the moneys help stats like more storage and raws etc. That does not help the community or create a stronger state. As you said Active or not, and in this case more commonly NOT, our money is thrown away to people we will never hear again. Why waste more money on nonessential things?
I bet that most of you never served as a wartime CP. Wartime CP needs to operate differently from peacetime. Especially a small nation like us, helping newbies with storage will not help anyone at all. We need to hoard money and save as much as possible. The money is for our day to strike back. The money should be used for mercs, as well as to pay our alliance members as well in which some times it requires it due to high cost of some wars. It is illogical to waste money for storage and raws.
@Konra😛 So the only 'active' people are those on IRC and the Forums? As I can tell you, the names you mentioned on the forums are not the only ones still active. I could name a few more, who are in my MU for example, that do complete their DO every day, fighting four our nation. Are they less 'active' than someone posting on the forums, hence not able to receive a subsidy? They are using the subsidy to make money (RAW's) and buy/make more weapons/food to fight with. How is that a bad thing?
@Cunemous
@Piet: It is not worth the investment. I disagree with you in which we count 2 clickers as active. It is too convenient for you to use that as a reason for then you have 100 percent activity. The only way to count activity levels are IRC/Forum. 2 Clicker's use of subsidies on Raws and fights are too marginal that the cost is greater than benefit/profit. Therefore, subsidies are not worth it and should adopt Garmr's plan of just giving food instead of cash. This will save the state money.
"We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate." Thomas Jefferson
I say this is true for all countries. We are here for those who are active and participate in our community. Those who just two clicks and are not active on the IRC/forum are not really part of our community unless they become active.
If the Dutch government needs money, they can always make the tax higher.
I think the amount of tax the Dutch civilian pays is not really high. I have not that much money, but i am still able to give a little more to the Dutch government to help our land get free from the Polish.
But i can be wrong, I am just a new player in this game, so I don't know much about the politics.
I'd like to suggest to continue any further discussion on the forum. I'll write a new controversial article tomorrow and while all this will be forgotten, the forum will be there still 🙂
http://enetherlands.nl/index.php
