[MoE] Guide to... Writing the Perfect Article

Day 2,128, 09:28 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by eUK Home Office

Not long ago, the Ministry of Education went over the media module. You can know everything about the media module, but you might not be able to write a great article. This time, the ministry will bring to the guide to… writing the perfect article.

While We Are On Topic…

Before you start writing, what will you write about? Many eJournalists have their speciality whether it may be eUK politics, current world affairs, party promotion, interviews or war. There aren’t many journalists who swap between categories, mainly because they write about what they know. What do you know about? You might be new so don’t have a lot of knowledge on eRepublik, so what do you enjoy reading in articles? You can write an article with a lot of facts, but if you have no passion for your subject, it is harder to get your points across. This is what separates you from an average or great journalist.

One Rainbow Per Article!

Well, that isn’t literally what I mean, but you might have guessed it when scrolling down the article. You’ve now probably read several good articles, and several bad articles. What makes these different though? One thing is colour. A wall of text could be interesting, but you might not want to read it… or worse, you can’t read it. Banners, images, and line breakers will break up your writing to make it easier to read. It also attracts people to certain parts of the article, encouraging them to talk about what they have seen. You can add images using the img tag. Check any good article again, they will have colour in it.

SPaG - Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar

Something I learnt in a boring school lesson once upon a time. Would you rather read an article that starts:
”I iz a riter sayin’ wats u need 2 no ‘bout da uK WARRR in frogland!”
or
”I am a writer, and this article will inform you about the current eUK war against France”

Maybe it is over-the-top, but you can understand what I am trying to say. Spelling, punctuation and grammar is important. Most good articles(not those satire ones) need to look professional to get the praise and attention of the audience, and someone who cannot spell doesn’t look so professional. Before publishing, spell check your article in a word processor such as Microsoft Word to make sure your SPaG is alright.

Your article might not be perfect yet, but these tips should get you a lot closer to writing high quality articles. It may be obvious, but think about SPaG’s and rainbows before you click the publish button next time. Shout your article out, let it be read by everyone. People pass on good articles, and it won’t be long before you are a top eUK journalist.

Thanks for reading and keep writing,
CheetahCurtis - Minister of Education
