[Battle of Wits] On Matters of Virtue...

Just as winter has its thaw, so too does a peaceful silence fall upon the trench warfare that personifies the eAmerican political ring. It is in this time of calm that Americans of all political walks of life hang up the banners and buttons of their parties to observe the result of democracy. United in their hopes, fears, and trust of the individual who will lead them for the foreseeable future.

For the Presidency contains within it the traits of great power and humility. It is an Office that cannot be born into, given unto, or bartered for. As it is only through the will of the citizens that the authority of this office be relinquished to an individual who will represent the people to the best of his or her ability; a mission which can only be done, if that person has the trait of courage, the virtue from which all others are derived.

To be courageous, is to stand tall in the face of adversity when fighting for ones principles and the principles of the nation that he or she is representing. We don’t need another pure-politico, who’s more concerned with the favor of his Party over doing his job right. Appeasement and compromise should be the options, not the policy. Courage means to admit one’s own faults and short comings, as well as take responsibility for one's own actions and those of your subordinates. Enough politicians play the blame game, just going through the motions, and passing the buck around. A real leader admits the wrongs done and fixes them. Courage is leading from the front, without having to look behind you to see who is following. It is playing to win all the time, whether it’s in the war room, the Congress, or at the international table. An armchair Commander-in-Chief is not presidential.

To conclude, a leader without courage lacks resolve, which makes him no leader at all. I believe it is only through the application of courage, that a President may rise to any challenge, no matter the occasion and succeeded no matter the odds against. It is simply an argument of substance over style. With the latter being an empty bag, let us look at the former with the clarity of MasterCard
