[Congress Debate] Removal of the Dictator Laws
UNL Congress
Greetings, citizens of Netherlands,
A new debate has been opened at the request of President Janty F:
Dear members of Congress,
as you know, our Lawbook has underwent many reforms in past months, in order to cut out the obsolete references and make it as much understandable as possible. However, there are still parts of it, which are not relevant to modern Netherlands, and which only serve as a burden to read for anyone, who wants to enter the political life on Netherlands and know all the necessary rules.
One of these parts are Dictator Laws. The mechanics of dictatorship have been changed few times by admins, and nowadays, it causes more harm than benefit for a nation to install a dictatorship in order to protect itself (as has been generally done in the past). I believe that in modern society of Netherlands, dictatorship will never have a place. And therefore it is unnecessary to have any active rules or laws for such an occasion.
Of course, the future might prove me wrong, and that's why it would not be smart to simply delete all existing laws, forget they existed, and possibly reinvent them later from the scratch, if such a need arises. And it is more than likely, that even if we had the need to establish dictatorship again one day, current laws would simply not be sufficient enough on their own, and they would have to be modified anyway - meaning the current active version of Dictatorship Laws is not really useful on any occasion anyway.
On eRep Wiki, where our Lawbook is stored, there is a section of "Old Laws", where the text of current dictatorial laws can be safely stored and kept for possible future need, without them being considered as active laws. That's why I propose the following to our Congress:
Does the Congress want to remove the Dictator Laws of Netherlands (both Article 1 and 2) from our active Lawbook, while keeping their original text in the "Old Laws" section, for past or future reference?
Vote results:
Yes: 12
No: 6
Neutral: 1
Proposal accepted. Dictator Laws will be removed as described as soon as possible.

Why should we remove something that is perfectly fine in it the place it is now?
Your constant removing and "improving" of laws couldn't possibly be some kind of long-term scheme could it?
I think it's a great idea to keep the lawbook current and nimble. Archiving irrelevant text lessens potential confusion and forcing re-evaluation before reinstatement would also help re-educate all citizens about the feature should that need ever arise.
ree 😁
The initial reason why those laws were in place are gone, and so should the associated text. If there is ever a ''Dictator'' again it will be due to unforeseen consequences, not an orderly election/process as part of a ''Democratic Dictator'' which hasn't made sense for years.
Seems fine to keep the law clean and actual while at the same time preserving them in an old/currently unneeded section. Means people wanting to know the law only have to read the actual ones. Might even lead to a situation where people, other than CoC's or odans, go actually read them 😃.
Basically the proposal in some way hides the dictator laws section from the law book. If it becomes relevant again we can add it back in. In the mean time the lawbook is shorter which is better for those reading it.
