[DISCUSSION] New Players Message
Sir Humphrey Appleby
What most of our new players think of their message...
Ello again all o/
Determined to get this done before the end of the term so we’ve a week-ish to iron it out…
Appreciate this isn’t particularly exciting work so will throw decent money at decent suggestions/improvements offered.
The message needs to be updated to include:-
-Advice to set up in Scotland or Y&H
-To prod the CP of the day
-To apply for the NHS
Otherwise it could do with a decent facelift to make it more engaging! Remember this is the first impression new folks get of our whacky community and it ought to be a good one…
CURRENT MESSAGE
Welcome to the New World!
As a citizen in Erepublik, you'll have the opportunity to be part of a huge online environment, where you can change the course of history.
Starting tips:
- Get a job - just like real life, in order to gather the resources needed for living you'll need to earn money from your work.
- Buy food - is essential for you as a Citizen to have something to eat every day.
- Achieve experience points - in order for you to enable new features in the New World. Working every day and having food units in your inventory, will help you achieve a steady amount of experience points daily.
- Find out more about Erepublik from the official wiki and the Help board from the forum.
Hope you enjoy your stay and together we will rewrite history by developing our country economy, creating a steady political climate and encourage a military activity to defend or conquer other countries.
Best wishes,
President of United Kingdom
SUGGESTED REPLACEMENT
Welcome to the game!
‘Erepublik’ is a political, military & economy based game and you’ve picked an excellent community to play it from! At least, so say most of us…
As an urgent opening tip I suggest you contact whoever is ‘Country President’; should be whoever sent you this mail. Give them a friendly hello and they should be able to give you more advice than we can fit here to set yourself up.
Another thing before you throw this away:
DO NOT IMMEDIATELY SET UP COMPANIES
We will almost always be involved in a war; even in peacetime we train with other countries! Some regions will be reserved for it whereas others gain specific benefits from the resources we’ve placed there.
A few more tips before you get started
-Try and fight exclusively in air battles; Gov will offer rank up rewards and pay £5 every kill. You will hit next to nothing in land to begin with.
-Contact the National Health Service that'll happily provide you food and advice (send a message to either Madelina de Melrose or Tinman. after you've dropped a message to the CP)
-If you don't mind a bit of a read check out http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/UK_Tutorial
-Don’t be shy!
Good luck; the eUK looks forward to meeting you.
Comments
There seems to be growing consensus on just setting up in Scotland rather than a 2nd holding company for food in Y&H
As this now open to the public my opinion that i said in congress still stands. "Too matey" not clear and precise sounds like your more trying to be people's "mate". That in these days people dont trust mainly due to modern sales tactics.
Second too much information for new players half of this stuff new players dont need to know straight away. You got to remeber these guys havent even learnt the basis of combat and working let alone explaining in depth details about TWs and AirBattles.
I still feel that it should be more we are here to help a few basic early game mistakes alot of players make. Then point them towards the NHS and MUs that should teach them the more indepth stuff. We dont want to scare them off by making this game sound more complicated than it actually is.
"Dear Multi,
Vote CptChazbeard."
And that's it surely? We dont want to overload them with information in their first minute of the game.
If people were given this advice when they first signed up years ago (and I tried three times to change the message!) then we'd be the greatest nation in this game.
(Will read the article when I get home)
I think to start it needs to be simple and just the basics, but we also need to make sure info is then available for people to which the focus should be on providing useful links to guide people on their way.
Contacting the CP – the CP will likely be the most active and therefore most easily able to point people in the right directions.
Signing up for the NHS – Advice to contact either Tinman or Madelina as the first step is all it really needs as they can do the rest, but a brief paragraph about what the NHS does could be an option.
Following the eUK tutorial - http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/UK_Tutorial
This (providing it is still all relevant) is a useful guide to take you through the early steps.
A guide to fighting centred on air combat – I believe Chaz was considering making such a guide. This could be expanded to include guidance on the most active Military Units to join – possibly even a brief intro to each and what they provide. Maybe here can go the support the gov’t provides to air fighters etc.
A brief guide to each of the main political parties, so that when people reach that point they can see what their options are.
Now that we’ve sorted on the best regions for companies domestically and how to get people moved to the best locations – we can guide people early on as to the best options depending on how they wish to grow economically. Options can vary so the key here will be providing the background information to enable people to make informed judgements.
"A brief guide to each of the main political parties" and "guidance on the most active Military Units to join" are both too subjective and subject to change. Maybe better to just suggest they try joining different parties/MUs until they find one they feel comfortable with?
I would replace
"Try and fight exclusively in air; you can also prod for rank up rewards and will get paid £5 every kill"
With
"In the early stages of the game, it is better to avoid land battles where you get nothing and fight in the air where you can get rank up rewards and will get paid £5 every kill"
This gives them a reason why
The explanation that to fight in land battles requires weapons which cost money but air battles don't need that kind of money to advance should be plain enough.
Apply to NHS is good also go to Mu's where monetary/weaps help is given.
Gone over the suggestion with a more neutral tone; good points on air battles and needing a link to the tutorial
