USA-Canada A Personal Reflection
Tyler Bubblar
July 26, 2009 that's the day I created Tyler Buublar, (note it was intended to be Bubblar but I typed too fast and didn't have the gold to change it when I finally noticed) and stepped foot into the eWorld. The war between PEACE and EDEN was raging. The USA at the time wasn't an official part of EDEN, but they and their close friend Canada were closely aligned. In those days it was EDEN and the Brolliance (USA/Canada) fighting a war of liberation against PEACE. Game mechanics made having a close friend on your northern border highly advantageous. Even after things began to sour with EDEN we remained close.
When I made my exit from erep in 2010 the Brolliance seemed to me that it would be a permanent fixture. One thing that this game has is things change. When I returned in April of 2013 our brothers to the north were wiped, and strangely no one seemed to care. Occasionally independent MUs would start and win Canadian RW's, but within a short period of time Spain would reclaim the freed regions. As a recent returned noob it was confusing. I was told that Canada had changed, and that game mechanics as well had changed, altering the dynamics. Still it struck me as a shame. Then finally a NAP was signed and Canada reappeared on the map.
Some have said that the official rationale for war with Canada (they must stop interfering with our Foreign Affairs and drop their Serbian MPP) is both weak and contradictory. On the surface yes it's a bit weak and hypocritical/contradictory. I'd like to take you on a journey behind the curtains of government. I've served in the last several administrations. I was DHS for NewAzazel, DHS, dMoFA, and MoFA for WildOwl. I witnessed the constant aggravation and friction Canadian interference caused.
Let's revisit the last half year or so. Canada after a very long occupation by Spain (Spain was more than willing to come to the table sooner) signs a NAP with Spain. Shortly after we here in the eUS sign a NAP with the UK to secure a rental agreement, Canada decides they're bored and break their NAP and attacks the UK. When things inevitably turned against them ghey turn to the eUS for help. Our response was basically "we have a NAP with Spain, Poland, and the UK our hands are tied." to which they responded to paraphrase "F*&k you then we'll MPP with Serbia"
During the months the eUSA government worked to secure peace and better relations with Spain, Poland, and the UK our northern neighbors constantly and unfailingly attempted to insert themselves into that process. As I said before a source of no small irritation to the Presidents I served under. They broke their NAP with the very countries we were working to befriend, and were outraged when we didn't back them. All of these things were noted, disliked, and ultimately let go by the executive. The mpp with Serbia was however, not something that could or would be overlooked. As I said at the start of this article things change. Pretty much the one constant enemy we've had in eRepublik is Serbia. They attempted and partially succeeded in PTOing us. At one time they had a large number of Congressional seats, and did everything they could to disrupt the government. Rogue natural enemy proposals, tax rate proposals, CP, impeachment, money transfer proposals, and importing more enemy combatants to swell their ranks all regular occurrences that made conducting the basic business of the government difficult. In short because we declined to join Canada in the breaking of NAPS with our now allies they decided to embrace the one nation in this game they knew would be taken as a threat. This threat has been taken seriously.
In conclusion as much as I and no doubt many others miss the bromance of the defunct Brolliance, I see no other route we could have taken. The mpp with Serbia was a shot across the bow of the eUSA, and we've responded with force. As an added benefit Canada possesses bonuses that will help fuel our economy. I'm not involved with the current administration but I believe the plan is to wipe Canada, absorb the bulk of their tax income, make use of their bonuses and bleed their already meager treasury dry. I doubt a NAP that our neighbors have proven they'll violate without a second thought will be pursued anytime soon. Traditional diplomacy is unlikely to solve the USA/Canadian problem.

NEEDS MORE GREELING!!!
This article failed to get me off.
Canada does not roll over under my watch.
USA deals with me now after the shenanigans.
Honestly I wouldn't expect anything else. Canada should stand up for itself.
"Canada after a very long occupation by Spain (Spain was more than willing to come to the table sooner) signs a NAP with Spain"
Wrong. I was at that table. Spain wanted to punish Canada for helping it's allies. There was no since intention to leave. They weeks would fly by without even returned messages.
At any point in the 9 month occupation that USA government could have spoken Spain and simply said, "Look, enough is enough. Let the countries go." But not even willing to lift that small finger, it was pretty clear Canada was being given another finger.
So without any interest in a USA-Canada alliance, and I was at that table too (we were consistently told, you leave us alone, we leave you alone. Wow, can you feel the love), Canada looked for other allies.
Now USA comes off as the spiteful girlfriend who's angry that her boyfriend is with another woman. This isn't politics. It's narcissism.
shhhhhh they are not interested in facts

Odd. I don't remember Spain wanting to come to the negotiation table sooner. I must have missed that part...
I remember the wipe. I remember the administration at the time was a real kiss ass. I remember that we did break our NAP because we, the general population were being led like sheeple and were getting annoyed at the then administration for selling us out for way less then we were worth. I remember us asking the USA for help during the wipe but you were too scared to take on an alliance bigger then yourself. Not much has changed here and you ended up wiped anyways. We at the time were also wiped and we still made it a priority to help our brothers to the south. When we attacked UK it was out of boredom. The timing for them wasn't great and I wish we would have found a better target who wasn't in such a weakened state.
But when we asked to join Sirius. Where we would have gotten over our animosity towards UK and Spain. We were turned away by the USA. Not the UK, not Spain or even Poland... It was the USA. The knife in the back wasn't bad enough. USA had to twist it while they were at it... Even after this. I can still forgive and forget. However, we will demand that you remove yourself from our land and stop making stupid excuses to invade. If your going to attack us. Just say it. We're bored and this is a war game. So we're going to attack you.
Now this is just MY opinion.
Voted and subbed.
You attacked the UK, which you knew would trigger a major invasion, "because you were bored"?
And then got all indignant that your neighbors were not willing to throw themselves into the mess you made?
This "logic" is typical of the Canadian chattering/ruling classes that have led to your 2nd wipe in less than a year.
At least you read a part of it.
I don't see where I said we needed eUSA's help in the invasion. We just wanted to join you in Sirius. Even eUK would have accepted us and we were at war with them.
The only time we asked the eUSA for help. Was with getting eSpain off our land.
Next time, please actually read what's written. Otherwise you'll continue looking like an uneducated idiot.
As to our wipe. Things turn around very quickly in this game...
😎
I'm glad you implicitly admit that you invaded the UK for lulz.
I'd like to see some evidence that "even the eUK would have accepted (Canada)" in Sirius even though you had just invaded them. It seems illogical to me that they would be that forgiving. Does Canada forgive and ally with countries who have recently invaded you?
And best of all, the strongest argument that will convince fence-sitters to your side, I'm an "uneducated idiot".
You don't know me, or where I was educated.
Finally, yes, the US has been wiped 3-5 times. Part of it was our own fault, part of it is our RL status in the world makes us unpopular. Fine. Canada's been wiped twice now? And both times because Canadians were bored/Rylde was under the influence when he hit the button? Don't worry. The US will be wiped again, when Serbia gets up off its' ass and Saves Canada.
Till then,
Keep calm, Canada.
