Day 901, 00:49 Published in USA USA by Chocolate McSkittles

As a mechanics minded player of this strategy game, I very often cringe at the idea of people bring the "real world" into the "new world". As I've argued again and again, it's just not a viable comparison...

But that's not what this article is about. Actually, quite the contrary.

In those rare occasions that we leave the shelter of our mothers basements, we hear all the time that the "media is dead".

eUSA, I hate to be the one to break the news...Our media is dead.

You see, not too long ago during a little war we like to call "World War 3", I remember walking all the way to the media module (10 miles uphill both ways) and seeing the top 20 articles.

I remember the amount of support we gave each-others writing was huge. A top 20 article was 150 votes, top 10 was 300, and top 5 was easily over 400 each. Articles were released and nearly washed away in the flood of articles from the "latest articles", subs really mattered.

Then things started to worse and worse. The media started to feel like a bunch of cheap one liners for votes, where "a picture is worth a thousand words" got mathematically transfigured into people deciding that posting a bunch of pictures is "media"

Eh, shes scantily clad and reading a newspaper (thus relevant)...that's at least 10% more votes, right?

To fix this, congress tried to present awards to decent writers, but that didn't receive much enthusiasm and fell into disuse.

Look at where we are now...top 20 is a scant 33 votes? Really?

But the votes are just a symptom. In a chicken vs egg argument I don't care to get into, good writers were discouraged from writing by a lack of support, and stopped writing. As a result, people stopped checking the media. Because people stopped checking the media, writiers got discouraged and stopped writing....you get the point.

Maybe its just our culture? I wrote an article in Croatia yesterday that got 800 votes and 170 subs. I don't even know if half those people care about domestic American problems They supported a friend.

America, I bring to you a question.

What went wrong and how do we fix it?
