Pyramid Industries: The Captain of Industry Workmob

Note: special thanks to Jonathan Gallant (John Galt?) for coming up with the work pyramid concept that help give me a bit of a breakthrough on the CoI method. Thanks a bunch, Jonathan!

In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows…

Mission Statement:

The Captains of Industry MU is engaging in a new industrial program that will organize the labour and loans of its top tier members (Captains) to assist Privates/Initiates and Lieutenants in the MU.

The primary purpose of the Industrial Pyramid is to help developing players achieve self-supply of food sooner. The secondary objective will be to provide Lieutenants with better means to earn profits, hasten work-skill gain, and establish/upgrade self-supply of weapons. Captains receive no monetary benefit and will be expected to offer their work at minimum wage to developing members. They are not obligated to make loans, yet will be supported in this should they volunteer.

The old pyramid...see what's wrong?

5 levels to the work pyramid:

1) Initiate: Owns at least 1 company but has not yet established any food self-supply.

2) Private: Owns at least 2 companies for food self-supply, yet does not have not enough companies to establish full food self-supply for maximum health/day.

3) Lieutenant: Owns sufficient companies for full food self-supply. Additional ranks will be added based on weapon supply and the number of companies producing excess product for profit or donation.

4) Captain: Owns enough companies to provide full food and weapon self-supply. Additional ranks will be added based on weapon supply and the number of companies producing excess product for profit or donation. (Rank may also be added for the number of members they have helped reach self-sufficiency)

5) CoI Military Unit Captain: Most likely the person who has in-game control of the CoI MU(s).

A higher number of experienced players at the top means more help is focused on the fewer below. A top-heavy pyramid (in this case) is a good thing, as the wealth is funneled downward

Pyramid Labour System (under development re: new industry & storage):

All Captains and some Lieutenants (with exception depending on level of production/profit) will be responsible for developing Initiates and Privates by loaning them Gold/LC to set up companies (most likely Grain and Food to start). These donations can be done ahead of the ‘work mob’ that will help each beginning member get started on their loan repayment or progress to the next company.

Initiates will be placed on a waiting list depending on the last time they were on the ‘work mob’ roster, until they establish basic food supply in one company. Once all all Initiates can produce food in one company without any help, then the waiting list moves on to the next lowest ranked Private (may also depend on the last time he was ‘mobbed’). The work mob finishes its work with a Private when he pays back the company loan or purchases a new company outright. The work mob then cycles through each Private on the list until all Privates have established full self-supply of food without needing any help (this may be possible with some long-term loans, too).

We will need to determine when Lieuntenants will receive help ahead of a Private. A Lietenant will be mobbed to help him earn extra profit, or to purchase/pay back another company, or to get weapon self-supply established. The trick will be not to have so many Initiate/Privates that the Lieutenants get held back or ignored. For this reason, some Lieutnants may be exempt from the work mob and will be encouraged to find wage work until they can make enough profit with their companies.

A googledoc spreadsheet can be used as a roster to determine what companies people own, their current work assignments, what loans have been given, and who will be next in line for the work mob:
Googledoc not publicly available

Wealth has always been funneled up the pyramid. This runs against the laws of gravity and is inherently wasteful of people's work effort

Basic Work Mob Guidelines:

CoI members should have 10 minum wage job offers in each company type they own. This will allow people to quickly join the company whenever the roster changes, without having to wait for postings.

Some care should be given to balance out the work assignments between RM and Manufacture. If someone applies without any RM in stock, their work will be wasted. Also, we need to ensure that the right balance of players/productivity is set up between correpsonding RM/Manuf. companies. One or two MU members should be responsible for determining work assignments, or people can be instructed to always join RM when there is some doubt about available resources in the storage.

Warning: Players who take advantage of the system by delaying the payment of a loan or purchase of a company to extend their work mob assistance will be removed from the Inudstrial Pyramid. Players who falsify any records or give misleading results that could affect the fairness of the work mob placement will also be warned/disciplined. This system is based on trust and cooperation, especially if loans are involved, and you are are expected to behave with integrity to maintain membership. Nevertheless, it may still be advisable to set up an insurance fund of some sort to partially cover for people who offer a short-term loan that is lost (player quits/goes inactive/banned/kicked out/etc.) I don’t expect this is a big issue – only something to consider for later.

Why free labour? Is free is just another word for Socialist?

The Captains of Industry Military Unit is a branch of the Ministry of Opportunity which will strive to develop the industrial base of its members towards self-supply and beyond. Membership is not limited to the MOO party, yet applying for access to the MOO forum is required. Stay tuned as MOO and the CoI find new ways to adapt to the changes in the economic module: "No Industrialist left behind!" ; )
