A few months ago I was a regular citizen-soldier, buying weapons, fighting where the DoD told me, and generally having fun. I thought the army guys were lucky--the government paid for weapons, wellness packs, MTs, and gifts all the time. So when WWIII wound down, I decided the action would be overseas with the Army, so I joined up, fully expecting all these wonderful gifts in my Christmas tree.
!doh!
If anybody in the Army gets Wellness Packs, it ain't us lowly in-game Gerk-Generals. Almost all of our tanking is self-funded! They gives us MTs to deploy, but if, after losing the wellness on the trip (eJet lag), I want to fight at 100%, I must buy my own gifts.
But the big surprise was the weapons. See, Congress used to fund about half the Army's weapons, and a recent budget cut dropped that level to less than 3 days a week. The Army's solution is to create its own gun and iron companies and require each soldier to work for $1 to $3 per day. Yes .. with my 7+ land skill I can make over $20 a day, but I give up most of that for the Army. Why?
Duty, Honor, Country.
Because I love the Army - hoorah!

Voted! I've been trying to get in the Marines for awhile, but they haven't responded to my application (after personally inviting me). It's also a tough call because I have just recently started loving my division, Quanah Parker really brought us together and made us feel like a group.
Everyday we work is anouther 5-7 well armed kicks in pnx's face.
BADASS!
But a question for the economics big-heads ... the Army has taken many, mostly very productive, workers, out of the general work force. How does that effect the eecomony?

So true, Zheng. People like you are the real heroes.
Back atcha' Lansing, Blue Holt!
Voted. I love the Army.
Being an Army soldier is definitely a service to the eUSA. It's not a "gimme program", and people who are looking for handouts generally wash out pretty quick. Those who stay get the benefit of routine weapon loadouts, Division gifting programs (for jet lag) when funds are available, a tight-knit fun active military community, and the pleasure of watching the combined damage of eUS soldiers destroy an enemy wall in a matter of minutes.
Wellness packs for tanking are not controlled by the eUS Army. There is a general military fund controlled by JCS for tanking WPs, and those are typically given to very high-strength military personnel of any branch who will be online at the right time. It's just not cost-effective to give tanking gold to an 18 Strength soldier when a 24 Strength soldier is ready and available to use it. Tanking is *very* expensive. The "gold per damage" ratio increases dramatically when one uses wellness-packs to tank, so taxpayer-funded tanking is reserved for only very high strength warriors, to get the most bang for the taxpayer's buck.
Voted! Much support from a dishonorably discharged AB!
Army rocks. You will never find a better brotherhood (except maybe the Brolliance)!
