Regional Loyalty
Chris Stanwick
My last few articles have been rather long, but I appreciate all those who read and voted on them. This article will be considerably shorter and is not directed at any particular nation or player. If you cannot be bothered to read the whole article, I summarized it in one sentence at the bottom.
There have always been players who refuse to move from their starting regions to a region with a Q5 hospital due to their loyalty to their RL home. Although they might be in a region with a low quality or no hospital, they stay despite numerous articles and threads about the benefits of moving to a Q5 hospital region. These are the same players that will often shout out that the government should place a Q5 hospital in every region…or at least in the region the shouter lives.
These players do not fully contribute to society. Their wellness is lower on average, meaning their productivity and damage is less than it could be, and they cannot fight as often as other players, if at all. They refuse to move to a Q5 hospital region to maximize their wellness, productivity, and damage. Why then, do some nations cater to these “less than useful” citizens by placing a Q5 hospital, which can cost up to 300 gold, in more than two or three regions (depending on the nation’s size)?
Make those citizens come to the Q5 hospital, don’t bring the hospital to them. Moving tickets cost considerably less than Q5 hospitals, and there generally are not sufficient citizens to warrant the extra expense. eRepublik is a game, albeit one that transposes the real world onto a game map; regional loyalty has no place here. If your loyalty to your RL region is so strong that you refuse to move from the barren wasteland of a region it is in eRep, then you might as well quit the game now because you’re not going to accomplish much in this game.
One sentence summary: If you live in a region without a Q5 hospital, move to one that does have one to contribute to society and accomplish something in the game.

Unfortunately, people don't listen. Period.
Besides appeasing the recluses, there are other benefits to placing many Q5 hospitals. The bastion strategy may not be the best for all circumstances.
In general, though, I agree with your article.
stanwick is in australia now, what happened to Ireland...
@Mumbly - You'd have to read more than the one sentence summary to catch the part that says "regional loyalty has no place here."
I like this article. My second day in game I was moving to florida. People that do not move to a Q5 state are just plain dumb.
Voted
People want to live in eRepublik where they live in RL. Or atleast in the region where their loyalties lie. What better way to pressure the government to make it a habitable place (Q5 hospital) then continuing to live there?
@ Mumbly, we didn't suit him in eIreland.
Voted.
Voted.
P.S. Chris Stanwick. Epic legend.
@Grainne So now he's in Australia ... naked?!
"Unfortunately, people don't listen. Period."
Exactly. This is a social game. If you can't convince people to move, then you have to make compromises. That's the nature of politics, folks.
@Pangolin: They told me I had to wear my clothes because I was scaring the kangaroos. 🙁
i would keep people in the game, new players if we had Q5 hospital and WA back, it's just stupid loyalty but people are people.
i'm with you, once we have a Q5 hospital in each state, moving ticket companies are going to go out of business in Australia.
but personally i think it'll more important to build our population, and that means getting people to play first and formost.
Not scaring the roos Chris....getting them horny. This sanction is for your benefit, not ours, as I'm sure we'd all like to see u naked.
I agree with the fact that people shouldn't be overly stubborn, in my early days in this game I nearly stuffed up entirely by being stubborn, not quite for the same reason but close enough.
Although if people sacrifice part of there wage to buy gifts to keep them at 100 like I do when wargames are off, then it's ok, I guess...
We could use a babyboom of Human-roo hybreds. Then we could arm the males with rocket launchers and the females can carry them extra ammo in their pouches.
Was saving up for a moving ticket, and then I saw the proposal for a Q5 Hospital in QLD. How long does one get built? Or should I move anyway?
Fortunately for me my RL home will have Dual Q5's placed in it eventually 😃
The QLD hospital should be placed within the next three hours.
I agree with your article. Surely there aren't too many players who really live in those states without hospital though? I'd hope not too many people would live like this.
I accept the rationale of this article.
here's an idea:
we could probably come up with an acceptable hospital to population threshold ratio (e.g., one Q5 hosp for every 1000 citizens) that takes into account the resources required to build the hospital, the opportunity cost, and the average productivity of citizens. When nearing the ratio threshold for another hospital, we could poll the nation to determine where existing players would consider migrating to. and viola, the most popular region gets a hospital when the population warrants it.
Having a Q5 hospital in more regions would fix the present situation where people are elected to the Senate with only one or two votes.
As a complete nOOb to the game and still trying to find his way, how do you utilise hospitals?
I am new to the game. Looks like I will have to move as SA has no hospital.
Great to see one in Queensland.
"Regional Loyalty has no place here"
Fiiiiine, ill go off and join the indo's then. /s
We don't actually have too many states, and once we have a hospital in every one of them (only 3 more to go), there will be no more future expense, and people can move from state to state as they please. Plus, if we do get invaded and get reduced to one state, no matter which state that is, we will have a hospital there.
Its better spending spending money on hospitals for wargames rather than weapons and gold stockpiles for a war that none of you wussies seem to want to engage in anyway.
As a new player the game mechanics are obscure. It's hard at level 3, with 36.2 wellness and a 1 unit a day job to understand how the regions are constructed, and how regional resources are developed. What helped me was that someone in my company (after I contacted every single person in my company to try and start building social connections) explained to me in plain language what I needed to do and gave me a moving ticket. If that hadn't happened, I likely still be living in my pipe dream of a hospital in my home region. 1 month later I am level 14, work at 100 wellness each day, fight and heal.
I'm subscribed to your paper because I saw your excellent article about congress and game mechanics. Something brilliant would be a lay persons guide to regional facilities and their development. Humbly submitted by a highly productive eCanadian.
waste of gold...
I don't live in my region in RL but that's where my heart lies! Victoria forever!
I respectfully disagree. I do believe hospitals should not be used in the "fortress state" strategy, but I abide by living in one any way, and hope that some day my state will get a q5.
