If you have read some of my earlier articles then you know that I'm fan of LOTR and that I like to use quotes and to draw a parallels between situations in this eWorld and fiction world of Middle-earth. Today I will do that again.

Battle for Sofia indeed reminded me to Battle for Helm's Deep.

P.S. Open hyperlinks in new tab! 😉

SARUMAN: Rohan, my lord, is ready to fall!

SARUMAN: A new power is rising. Its victory is at hand. This night the land will be stained with the blood of Rohan. March to Helm's Deep. Leave none alive. To war!

THÉODEN: I want every man and strong lad able to bear arms, to be ready for battle by nightfall. We will cover the causeway and the gate from above. No army has ever breached the deeping wall or set foot inside the Hornburg.

GIMLI: This is not a rabble of mindless Orcs. These are Uruk-hai. Their armor is thick and their shields broad.

THÉODEN: I have fought many wars, Master Dwarf. I know how to defend my own keep. They will break upon this fortress like water on rock. Saruman’s hordes will pillage and burn. We’ve seen it before. Crops can be resown. Homes rebuilt. Within these walls, we will outlast them.

ARAGORN: They do not come to destroy Rohan’s crops or villages. They come to destroy its people. Down to the last child!

THÉODEN: What would you have me do? Look at my men. Their courage hangs by a thread. If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembrance!

ARAGORN: Send out riders, my lord. You must call for aid.

THÉODEN: And who will come. Elves? Dwarves? We are not so lucky in our friends as you. The old alliances are dead!

[The sound of a horn is heard from outside.]

LEGOLAS: That is no orc horn!

SOLDIER: Open the gates!

[The gates are opened, and an army of elves march in. Men stare in awe.]

THÉODEN: How is this possible?

HALDIR: "I bring word from Elrond of Rivendell. An alliance once existed between elves and men. Long ago we fought and died together.

HALDIR: We come to honor that allegiance.

ARAGORN: Mae govannen, Haldir!" (Welcome, Haldir!)

ARAGORN: You are most welcome.

HALDIR: We are proud to fight alongside men, once more.

**** THIS WAS ACTUALLY RECORDED ON VIDEO! ***

[Men and elves stand at Helm's Deep. Saruman's army slowly approaches, shouting and rumbling.]

ARAGORN: Show them no mercy! For you shall receive none!

[The Uruks pound their spears and roar. The men and elves in the fortress ready their weapons.]

[One old man accidentally shoots an arrow, hitting an orc. Everything goes silent, as the orc falls down, dead.]

THÉODEN: So it begins!

[After all night battle everything seems lost. It seem like there is no hope.]

THÉODEN: The fortress is taken. It is over.

ARAGORN: You said this fortress would never fall while your men defend it. They still defend it. They have died defending it!

THÉODEN: So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?

ARAGORN: Ride out with me.

ARAGORN: Ride out and meet them.

THÉODEN: For death and glory?

ARAGORN: For Rohan! For your people!

GIMLI: The sun is rising.

GANDALF'S VOICE: Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East.

THÉODEN: Yes! Yes! The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep, one last time.

THÉODEN: Let this be the hour when we draw swords together.

THÉODEN: Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath. Now for ruin. And the red dawn!

GANDALF: Théoden king stands alone.

ÈOMER: Not alone!

ÈOMER: Rohirrim!

ÈOMER: To the king!

*** VIDEO ***

GANDALF: The battle of Helm's Deep is over. The battle for Middle Earth is about to begin.
