Proposed New Tax Rates
Bank of England
War is good for us but it is also expensive, as is the number of MPPs we need to run. Currently we are spending more than we are taking in tax so taxes need to rise. Previously in wartime extra VAT tax on weapons has been added but I think we should be encouraging the use of weapons so I would rather raise our flat rate of income tax from 15% to 22%. This is also less likely to be a temporary measure than before - due to the increased MPP cost of upkeep, a regular expense.
To compare us to other countries here is the broad tax rates in a few countries:
.......... Income.... Vat
USA........ 20 %..... 8 %
Indo........ 20 %..... 1 %
Serbia...... 10 %..... 5 %
France..... 25 %..... 5 %
S Africa..... 5 %..... 1 %
Germany... 12 %.... 12 %
UK (new).. 22 %..... 1 %
Against these our taxes after the change will be at the higher end of the spectrum - but similar to the US/Indo/France. We don't have any valuable natural resources and our current position in the thick of the action necessitates a high proportion of our economy dedicated to the military and MPPs.
Due to the downtime in the UK forum sponsorship was sought and received on IRC, full details will follow on the forum when it returns.
Proposed new tax rates:
income/import/vat
food 22% 99% 1%
gift 22% 99% 1%
weapon 22% 99% 1%
tickets 22% 99% 1%
Grain 22% 99%
house 22% 99% 1%
An error was made with the housing proposal: congressmen please vote NO to that one and a new proposal will be put forward tomorrow.
We still have some business to do so any congressmen with spare proposals who wishes to help out (and get some free xp) please drop me a pm.

VAT is different to income tax though, so that kind of doesn't make things better.
VAT, not all of us are going to buy those things everyday.
Income tax, its going to be taken from us everyday, for things that wasn't even our fault..
Wouldn't it make sense to atleast just put up the VAT on things other than food?
Taxation is theft.
Taxation? THIEVERY.
Now more people will move from the UK to get better wages :/
I do not support these taxes.
I'd prefer more VAT and less income tax.
Being in the military and getting weapons and MTs for no cost, hardly anyone can comment on taxation is theft - since its those taxes that pays our wages and make our weapons.
Just sayin'
MOAR TAXES
Delicious taxes for delicious alliances and fightings.
@Joshua/Tom - you illustrate my point. The UK needs more taxes. If we bump up vat and you don't buy stuff then we don't get more taxes. We want you to buy and use weapons during wartime - so we don't want to discourage you by taxing weapons.
@Taxation is thievery! - Different perspectives is everything 🙂
lul, I was mostly trolling.
Not too keen on having one of the higher income taxes in the eWorld though 🙂
I understand why, but I just think that 22% might be a little OTT.
No more taxes. We should be neutral. OH WA-
"Not too keen on having one of the higher income taxes in the eWorld though 🙂"
Perhaps we can do cutbacks instead, save some monies 🙂
"I understand why, but I just think that 22% might be a little OTT."
War is expensive; but eventually these higher taxes will pay for themselves in the long term IMO
This is good.
We claw back money from noobs who login and work once and then never return. Which has to be good.
The taxes will mean everyone can afford at least Q2 food, and the experience on offer from fighting in wars will give more people more gold more quickly. This will presumably find it's way into the economy which can only be a good thing.
The only adverse effect I can see is that citizens not aligned to the military will have less cash to spend on weapons in times of need.
people in the military don't get cash btw, only guns they make themselves.
Well, we do get the cash we earn while making those guns! Not the highest wage granted. (And not even in my home currency!) But it forces me to look about on the monetary market to convert my cash effectively 🙂 makes me smart for when I become rich and famous. WHICH I WILL DO! 😃
I'm pretty new to erepublik, so my idea will probably not stand up to much scrutiny, but how about a partial rebate for players who's activity remains above a certain level? That way, the players who join and disappear pay a premium, and there is an incentive for those who stick around and continue to generate wealth.
Just a thought. Not sure how practical this would be.
Tbh that's actually not a bad thought, but I think you'll need to think about that, and see if it'll work. I like these taxes. It makes perfect sense to me (if I were in congress I'd vote on it)
There are over well over 1000, 1500 people who could qualify for those rebates; It would take a team of dedicated, active and constantly working people to make sure such a system was administered, staffed etc. Its a nice idea, but the timing and implications just don't add up; we need more money coming in, not going out! 😛
Thats what i figured, although you could work it on a basis that only those who apply for the rebate actually get it instead of them automatically recieving it. And to keep the workload down, you dont advertise that its availiable too heavily.
It works for the inland revenue! lol
boetaxx
Sooo Iron for guns and wages however small appear from nowhere then? 🙂
Imports to 99% on everything?
Are you out of your feeking minds? Has to be the dumbest idea ever.
Not on raw materials we don't own, no. Import taxes haven't changed in a while and I'm not intending to change them.
Protip: Having high Import taxes won't save the crap economy. You might want to look at adjusting them, otherwise instead of rebirthing sooner, it will be a long, slow process.
I dont really care tbh as i dont even understand how the tax system in the euk works
Low taxes for the poor, high taxes for the rich, implement social welfare into society, nationalise businesses and educate others to lead a traditional, modest life. This is my ideology.
how do I get in the mitar if there going to be curtion I whant in
we should make it 15% VAT and 7% income tax.
That way it is optional thievery!!!!
