NO It is actually to show the anomalies of this voting system look up for example the Alabama paradox. It also changes depending on how the votes are distributed. You need to look at the projected safely elected to see when voting of a particular party would be pointless

Someone voting their party of choice is never pointless. Even if all the candidates would be elected voters should still choose their preference party because it can still increase their % share which will be reflected in who is elected.

Every vote is a positive vote. That's called democracy. it's even democratic to abstain if you have to, but I don't advocate that.

Hare Quota is only relevant in an STV PR system. This is not that.
THIS in ERep is just straight PR - straight percentage of the whole.

Sorry , but you don't seem to know anything about voting systems. STV uses the droop quota. No system of STV in use uses the Hare quota. There is no 'straight PR'. Erep uses the Hare quota with greatest remainder. The hare quota is total votes divided by seats. In this case divide by 40. any seats not allocated are given to the parties with the largest remainder. The other main type of list systems are the divisor systems which include the D'Hondt or the Sainte Lague systems which most European countries use. The United States uses the harmonic divisor system, It abandoned the Hare quota system when they increased the number of seats in the House of Representatives and Alabama lost a seat!

I think people should be encouraged to vote, not told that their vote will have no effect. Simple. Artela and others have picked up on things in your article which are not clear. I do wish people would stop trying to "needle" each other. In Keith's case he puts a lot of work into keeping us all informed about things we may not otherwise hear about.

As regards these election reports, I find them extremely useful and I did so even before I joined TUP. They're not bs and they're not "waffly". They simply inform.

This would be true if not for the editorialized portions of the articles.

The facts' parts I like, the editorials I think are just sub-par trolling.

Editorialising would be "this is a great/ terrible result or sadly/happily XXX did/did not get elected/defeated"

The what if bit is purely factual and gives an insight into how the voting system works. The parties affected and the analysis changes throughout the day and when the results are being verified gives an idea about what might happen if voters were disallowed. Last month it correctly showed what would happen if a SPam vote was ruled out and one was!

If you have any ideas about how the data should be presented I would be happy to consider it

Man Friday has been one of the best Congress Members this term. Very sad to see him so far down TUP's list would be a great loss to Congress if he's not elected.

That is an unfounded accusation and would inflame many people. Keith may be excused for being angered by that. His motive in publishing this account of the election is to inform NOT mislead.
