Tanks for the Fire Extinguisher

Day 704, 22:39 Published in Ireland Japan by Donovan Thomas

[Note: I love new players. Pardon the humor guys]

Grrrrrr

I've noticed a very minor trend with some of our newer citizens thinking we focus too much on Defence. Granted those that I wish to reach most with this article will not understand it because they are also citizens crying for shorter manifestos or that an article was too long to hold their attention I will try anyway. Why? Because a discerning gentleman with lighting fingers, a rapier wit and a bucket of informed opinion cant help but write when he has time. The following statement is for the multi-paragraph challenged (pardon the caps, the window of learning for them is small);

WAR R IMPORTANT IN eREPUBLIK, STRATEGY R MORE IMPORTANT

TACTICS R EPIC SMART

If you have made it this far, consider yourself one of the few, the proud, the literate (yes, I have my smart ass hat on tonight, haven't worn it in a while). If you actually have a few minutes, please follow this link to a very informative article. If you are a one paragraph person and you are stretching your mind tonight your first questions should be;

Why did this article get over three thousand votes and over two hundred comments?

Well, considering it is about one of the largest and most entertaining battles in eRepublik history it should not surprise you. But if you are still wondering, see all caps in bold above. But really, why is an organized army important?

Go here and look at the graph.

Now, if you are still one of those that think we don’t need an army, don’t need divisions and organization riddle me this;

How did that wall go down 400,000 points in fifteen minutes? Was it "citizens throwing themselves" at the wall? No...

It was organized, allied, multi-national elite SPECWAR units of Tanks fighting via IRC orders in an incredibly organized and disciplined manner spending more gold than Mr. T ever wore around his neck and using enough Q5 weapons to cause a global shortage. It was not ten thousand Privates fighting barehanded having all coincidentally woke up at the same time. Trust me. I know some of the pivotal players and they were dancing in the e-streets (Not to be confused with Bruce Springsteen's Backup Band)

So, why does eIreland need an organized Army? I know many of those who completely understand the concept of the above conflict and even respect it think that eIreland will never be invaded. This may be correct. But let me ask you this; has your house ever burned down? Do you still have a fire extinguisher? Have you ever had a flat tire? Do you still have a spare? See what I mean? If not, find the bold text near the top and go play Halo.

Now I'm no kooky survivalist, but I am a career military man who believes in being prepared. I have the ability to walk away from my home or sailboat well armed and provisioned for at least ten days away from help and Seven Eleven. I can do this in a maximum of ten minutes. Why? Yeah, I am a little paranoid, but I also live three quarters of a mile from the ocean in a tsunami warning area and a land with regular wild fires and earthquakes... but I digress.

If eIreland is ever invaded she will most likely essentially fall in one battle. They will attack the northeast first, take out our Q5 Hospital and then tip toe through the remainder of our regions. Do we need more Q5 sick bays? I think we do... they are a hard sell and very expensive... as I have said before, losing our treasury set back a boat load of plans.

How do you hold the northeast? One word... Tanks. Tanks are highly ranked, high strength players with high quality weapons fighting numerous times... when I say numerous I mean twenty, thirty times a battle... How? Gold... lots and lots of Gold. A Tank like our very own Top Gun fighting twenty six times (five times, then heal, one more, then 10 gifts then twenty times with wellness packs) will cost around 58 gold (with the current best price of Q5s at .80 gold and low market on gifts and 4 Q1's) if he Fights Q5 at 100% wellness every time able...

Pretty damn expensive huh?

But he does 8,468 in damage to that wall...

Even more if he Kamikaze's and fights down below 50 wellness at the end...

Now multiply that by ten and you're spending 580 gold. But you have brought that wall down almost 100,000 points... [factoring in regular citizens fighting like mad as well] (or built it up in the case of defence). Now we don't do this just for the hell of it... we do it via a very coordinated attack with numerous people supporting with gifts, sending weapons to the tanks from orgs on time, others standing by in case our Tanks are spammed with Q1 food ready to accept the food to clear the Tanks inventory... and with a Battle Commander coordinating the waves of tanks via IRC so not a single bar of gold is wasted or weapon fired that did not have to be... Let's not even get into allied Tank attacks... *swoon*

But WHY Donovan?

Well, in our case it is simple. We most likely will not win without that Q5 hospital. And we need an extra twenty four hours to get alliance fever and beg some of the big boys for some MPP's and have it pass in our congress and theirs.

If not, you might as well get out your pirated copy of Rosetta Stone and start learning the language of your new President. Dimana aku bisa mendapatkan pasangan satu pint?

In the last twenty four days of my term as MoD we have not spent one single IEP on defence. We didn’t have to. We were crawling. We were organizing. We were laying the foundation of a fighting machine to protect this Fair Isle. A machine I hope we never need outside of a training war...

But a machine that we need very much.

eIreland's Fire Extinguisher. eIreland's Spare Tire.

It's time for Phase III. And that folks, costs money.

Go here to donate to the DoD.

(If you stuck around this long and read the whole article, I love you... eMarry me? Note: Only open to female Generals (Battle Hero of course) and above... 😉

Very Respectfully,

Cononel Donovan Thomas
Minister of Defence
(for twenty five hours and 32 more minutes)
