All across the New World, among every people and within every major alliance, Congress candidates dropped out of their respective races, citing a diminished value of the Congress medal, the inability to leave their countries, and the last remaining motivation being robbed.

“Most congressmen donate their gold for getting elected to the CBO,” a source in the United States said, referring to the Congressional Budget Office. Sources in Singapore, Pakistan, and Israel confirmed similar practices.

“Congressmen are supposed to not be in it for the gold or the medal,” a long-time Congressman who likely no longer gives a damn said, “but come on – you get experience for clicking ‘Get Reward,’ and there’s not even a second option there!”

Downsides:

1. You are stuck in your country. Even if you are a beast of a tank, you are like a tank without treads. If there is an important fight going on, you better hope that an MPP gets your country involved. If you were in the military, you have to be in a “non-deployable” branch or resign your hard-won Congress seat to travel abroad.





2. You are usually expected to donate your gold. Each Congress election is an opportunity for a country to fund its tanks (the kind who can deploy to other countries), buy an MPP, or upgrade a couple companies.


The benefits of being elected about equal what you give up to have a career in Congress. Most of the time you will see less damage output than others in your cohort, but you can make up for it in experience from voting on a month’s worth of proposals. Congressmen tend to level much faster than similar citizens who were not politically involved (and, incidentally, the added experience gives them a greater probability of winning if their next race ends in a tie, giving them another term to earn even more experience).

You get a treasure map worth five gold on average (It used to be set to an average of five; we swear that number has been reduced in the last few months), but most countries would rather you donate that to a national cause. The end result from that transaction is a Congress trophy on your profile. That would be impressive if most of the living citizens didn’t have at least one, and if ligtreb didn’t have sixteen.

What is the motivation for removing experience associated with voting? “This change was required because our data shows that some Congress Members are abusing this system to get the reward,” says admin. That’s like saying that militaries abuse the war module to get rewards. This practice, referred to as experience proposals or lulz proposals (a term I dislike), is not new. It has been used for over a year, and its practice has been explicitly allowed in some countries (like United States) and disallowed in others (like Canada) at one point or another. Was it because a Danish president took things too far? As we all know, only crazies get flustered by Danes exercising their freedom of expression.

If ever elected as a country president, I would have happily made daily experience proposals. My proposed new citizen messages would have been a fitting reward for an active Knesset. It would also give me a space to strangely rant about whatever I felt like, possibly leading to my constituents questioning my sanity. I would spend a week proposing citizen messages that combine to make an essay explaining how the universe of Mass Effect contains deceptively little original content, instead being mostly cobbled together from pieces of Battlestar Galactica, StarCraft, and Star Control. The New World will never be exposed to this now, as it has become pointless.
