[Battle Priorities] Determination Reset / Fight for eCan in the RWs *ONLY*
New Faustian Man
Hello Friends, Allies & eCanadians
In case an explanation is needed for this, Serbia are presently reseting determination in the regions rented from us.
Consequently, at the present time we're not trying to win any direct wars [MPP battles] against Serbia. Instead concentrate damage for Canada ONLY in Resistance Wars in Serb-held regions.

» Fight for SERBIA in British Colombia
Please adhere to these instructions until further notice. Thank you o7

So does that mean that the deal was resigned? Did we get the $50,000? What about our tax money?
Never mind. I'll go back to not caring like everyone else.
It didn't require resigning as there has been no changes, and it was agreed that it would roll into this month. We were paid in full, yes. Portugal have returned all taxes, and we agreed to let Serbia keep taxes generated from holding our regions for the first couple months as a small recompense for the huge cost it took to get them here and evict Albania.
Btw if all the effort the recent governments put into getting Albania out of our regions (coordinating with three other countries + our alliance), organising a lucrative TW with ePort, supporting Netherlands in their attack on the UK, AS'ing the Swiss in Cuba to liberate the latter, and attacking Mexico etc etc is your idea of "not caring like everyone else" then, meh, that's fine. The game might be dying generally, and the roleplaying aspect of the political module pretty much extinct, but with a pop. of, what, 30-40 players or less, placing any emphasis or significance in party politics makes little sense, with a population as small as ours it would just be divisive. Better if people start volunteering and putting themselves forward [via articles or w/e] for cabinet posts rather than hoping that someone from their party/political alignment wins the CP race or tallies more congressional seats, as a precondition for them getting involved in the political life of the nation.
Ok, fine - it wasn't re-signed it was extended. 😛 Either way, that wasn't announced before now nor was it shown that the resulting payment had been made. It wouldn't hurt to bring some of this out of the backrooms, would it?
Maybe next month we can reconsider our generous tax rebate policy. Over the previous six days, Serbia has collected 6,667.30 cc in Canadian tax dollars which averages out to 33,336.50 cc over 30 days. Maybe somebody recorded the exact numbers. Either way, that is a significant chunk of the 50,000 cc rent charged - pretty much two thirds of it.
That amount represents not quite 10% of Serbia's daily tax intake from within Serbia so as close to a meaningless gesture to them (thankfully they didn't help us for money). On the other hand, it represents 25% of the monthly tax intake that we get from Canada. It wouldn't hurt to ask if we could get it back, especially as we are impacted negatively by the permanent loss of Nunavut's deer resource.
As for your second point, you're not going to get any argument from me about party politics. I haven't been involved with party politics for maybe 5 years and have long argued that they're been pretty useless.
But I don't think that you should need to be a cabinet minister in order to either know what's going on or have any say on the matter. These things used to be discussed by Congress if not by the public at large. It used to be that the cabinet was composed of ministers that would do the heavy lifting and prepare proposals on specific issues before seeking Congress' input and approval on behalf of the country rather than ruling by diktat.
Of course, it's not just the executive government's fault that Congress (or anyone else) isn't discussing things anymore - Congressmen (and everyone else) have to show some desire to have a say on matters and they generally have not - but certainly it has become far more closed than it ever has before.
While I'd place information sharing outside the purview of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and while you certainly have had a fair number of accomplishments to your name over the past few months (not to malign those who tried but ultimately weren't successful in ending a credit-card anchored occupation) I do see it as a failure of the executive as a whole to not be engaging the community more than it has, which is to say practically not at all.
I suppose it's a bit of Catch 22 situation, though. If the community is dying and doesn't ask for information then the cabinet making all the decisions is justifiable as it forms the largest rump of those left who care about these issues.
Well, I guess if that's the case I might as well sign up.
I agree that being a cabinet member shouldn't be a requirement to have government decision-making/decisions shared with you, I was just making an observation that the divide between the executive and "opposition" does not run along party lines atm. Every Canadian gov I've recently been part of has had a cabinet made up of members from a diverse set of Canadian parties, and these cabinets have varied in size, so if anyone really wanted to be in the mix with decision making no matter their political affiliation, all they really have to do is volunteer, and I'm sure they'd be admitted.
Regarding the lack of reports from the government, my style is more updating people about things as they need to know, and as it directly relates to the integrity of our borders, sovereignty, or issues with our close allies; authoring long roleplayer articles about global "geopolitical shifts" isn't my style, pieces like that have little merit considering how long in the tooth this game is and some of the intransigent positions adopted by some countries/groups in this game, its the same as it ever was; the international scene these days is about as interesting as watching paint dry, and about as predictable too.
However if anyone wanted to know anything about anything that falls under the FA umbrella all they have to do is send me a PM and I'd be happy to let them in with what's happening, to the best of my knowledge anyway.
Regarding the issue of the lack of reports coming from the executive: I'm pretty sure we're producing most of the articles in the eCan media these days, even if they're not all gov-related. The problem is not the executive imo, the problem lies with the absolute dearth of activity on the congress thread. No one contributes anything on there, they seem to take their medal then pretty much 2click the month away. I'd be more thn happy to engage in some debate there and get everyone's input as part of the decision-making process, but no one uses the congress threads, other than to post links to important battles (and its more than likely to be me doing that).
During Pun's term we had the Team Canada thread, a place where people weren't wearing their party colours, and were speaking freely and generally getting involved, that one thread had more activity than the last 3 congressional threads. Perhaps we should create another of those, a thinktank between the populace and executive where ppl can get involved in the national polity without the confrontational aspect the executive.vs.opposition and party.vs.party brings out in people (not that its being doing much of that lately). What it boils down to is we have a pop. of maybe 30-40 ppl, so there really is no reason anyone should be locked out of being (even a small) part of the nation's decision-making processes.
p.s. I'm taking minimum credit for ejecting Albania, that was the work of all gov members over multiple terms + our friends from ePortugal, eLithuania and eSerbia 😉
I think we're generally in agreement. I'd maybe put less of a point on partisanship, though, simply because I don't think we've really had real adversarial politics in ages.
I also place more responsibility with the executive, though, because they've chosen to be responsible. I don't think we need long flowing articles (though they wouldn't hurt) just updates more regularly than when a reset war is required, especially if they involve treaty obligations.
Again, not your role. I think the CP (as in not just Rylde) should always be doing more to rally the country (although, yeah, he's had better months in that regard). Or at least have a Ministry of Information to keep more people in the loop.
