The Chile NAP, what it means to YOU!

Day 2,285, 10:23 Published in Australia Australia by eAus Department of Information

G'day Aussies,

As you may have seen from your President Mickskitz in his article yesterday, we have agreed a monthly rolling non aggression pact with Chile. Accordingly the pact has passed through both senates and a resistance war for Tasmania has begun. You can join the battle by clicking this link and remember this is a good opportunity to achieve part of your freedom Fighter medal as well as build up your True patriot medal damage.

Granted this NAP will not be greeting with enthusiasm by some Australians they will see it as a surrender and that is to be expected, after all who is happy with having another nation occupying your land...but please remember Chile did not have to sign this deal, they are playing eRepublik in the manner it was created for - to conquer and occupy lands that allow them bonus productivity. Now as a small nation we are a prime target and have been for many nations and sadly we do not have the power to withstand an invasion but this deal allows us a senate. So on the 25th of February we will have a Senate election where we will return Senators to help the building of our country.

Chile have also said this NAP deal will have the option of the return of other regions in the future so do not see this as a deal designed for one region that is permanent. Of course we could decline to renew at any point but obviously that will be followed by Chile taking back any regions we have with military force...so for now we had two options as a Government -

1, Sign a NAP to have a Senate and help activity in Australia as well as boost player retention plus leave the door open to future endeavors.

2, To carry on as we are and remain Senate-less and watching as Chile resistance war our regions themselves so they can reset our determination bonus.

Now player retention is key to a small country like Australia, and watching new players become frustrated and bored whilst we are not visible on the eRepublik map is something that drives people away from the game. It is something that happens in countries up and down the eRepublik world despite what measures you take to encourage them to stay. This deal also allows us Tasmania back at no financial cost to ourselves, some of you may be aware that when Canada was recently wiped they had to rent their regions back from Spain who were their occupiers...we were granted the same conditions as New Zealand who signed a similar deal with Chile recently.

Let us be realistic, this deal is not perfect...if Chile left Australia then that would have been the perfect deal, but they need bonuses and that was never going to happen. Would we likewise hand over regions we needed for extra productivity if we were a strong nation? No, and no other country would either. And let us say Chile did suddenly leave our shores then one occupier would be replaced by another as Indonesia would invade us in a heartbeat. Chile and Australia have a history of mistrust and they did not have to release any regions or sign any NAP if we are completely honest but they sat down and offered us a deal to begin with that has options for progress...it is a start.

A start that begins with today's RW in Tasmania and continues into the senate elections on the 25th so go back to your parties and prepare for next month where Australia begins to rebuild. Remember the next CP of Australia has the power to tear up this agreement if the country so wishes, though the consequences have been made clear.

Dr Hugh
