A small disciplined militia can not only hold out against a larger force, but drive it back, because they are fighting for what rightfully belongs to them. This is our home. Let nobody tell you otherwise.

They tell us that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when will we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed and our will broken? Will we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Will we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies have thoroughly beaten us?

We are not weak if we make a proper use of all our means. Citizens armed in the holy cause of Liberty, and wrapped in the love for this our country, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, we will not fight our battles alone. Our friends will raise up to fight our battles with us. What we have done once, we can do again.

The battle is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.

United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which will destroy that union upon which our existence hangs. Let us preserve our strength for the Brazilians, or whoever else dares invade our territory, and not exhaust it in civil commotions and bitter bickering.
