[jw] Keeping my head in the sand
Hell The Great
I'm not the only one to delve into this topic. For the words from the source, you can check out Invalidation's introduction here. For the tonguing support, you can check out Keers's supporting article here. Chewie also said he is running here (cool modesty bro) and OMG A NAME CALLER APPEARS.
To be clear, before this is seen as support of anyone, I should make it clear that I voted for the glorious candidacy of Atticus and Kevin, so in this election I am undoubtedly a neutral third party. I dislike and disagree with both Chewie and Alice in equal measure. Neither seems to be offering anything which I think will improve the UK, and neither I think, has a history or approach that will do anything other than keep the UK divided and sadomasochistic.
Anyway, the main points I want to bring about here, are that this election, regardless of who wins, will change nothing. Internationally speaking, its clear that TWO is on the outs. Presidents of key TWO countries are quite simply, waiting for the first to bolt. No-one wants to be the first to declare, and with HQ seemingly intent on goading a different country each day into leaving, lets be clear that its simply a matter of time. During my term as Secretary General last month, not only was I certain TWO would eat itself alive, I saw and was involved in talks with several people to destroy TWO. In fact in my last act, but for requests from a few close friends, I was actually about to deliver the death blow to TWO and begin a vote to dissolve the alliance, with several countries agreeing to vote no, provided I kept the voting anonymous.
This international situation, means quite simply, that the next few months will leave no real time or momentum for a President to focus on domestics. Further, the decisions made will impact upon the UK for many many months to come. Who do we trust, to ensure this is done effectively a properly? Do we give the power to Congress to engage in this, or do we trust a Government to begin the process, or an institution that is slightly more useful than the legislation circlejerk it created many moons ago?
Beyond that though, lets for a second, put our heads in the sand internationally and think about the domestics of the UK. Our makeup has always been one of a strong government. Why is a strong government important for a mid-powered country? Because it brings stability. Stability is key, because whilst we cannot command respect because of our organisation (Poland), brute strength (Serbia), fiendishly rich and devoted tanks (Greece) or ability to hit in RWs (Hungary), we can, infact guarantee our allies consistent and meaningful support, thanks to the decision making power being purely governmental. Sure, Congress will rubber stamp decisions, but a government can rely upon the support of its backers, in the same way our real life government can.
Why is this makeup important? Because it prepares our leaders for the international stage. Be clear, and be without doubt, the UK has contributed more in terms of alliance HQ members than any other TWO nation. It was the same in ONE, and Phoenix, and in fact, in the short life-span of Terra, the only nation to have 3 of its citizens in its HQ? Oh, thats right, us. So first and foremost, the status quo here nurtures and facilitates our citizens for the step up to the international level.
Moving on to that, we also have a history, almost a requirement, that Government has some huge pet master project every month. Of course, things rarely work out, but on the odd occasion that it does, these are repeated. CTA, or Call To Arms, began as a pet project, and grew into something which supplied and equipped troops for months. The Legion was itself built upon and lifted from a Government plan, and that turned into an MU that served the UK for over two years. The NHS, welcoming messages to new players, in game competitions, supplies for new players, Training Ground loans, investments and profits with the risk and rewards shared amongst citizens and exchequer. I could go on even further, but of course when you think about it, it becomes clear.
Government is most definitely not the solution for all of our problems. However, it allows groups to test their theories, put into action their beliefs, and from what works and what doesn't, the community as a whole begins to see how to adapt their own schemes and approaches to either learn from Government success, or avoid repeating Government failures. Every Single Thing that happens in the UK, at some point, can be traced back to either a Government initiative gone wrong, or one that took the UK by storm. Some have more impact than others, but the effect is plain to see.
So sure, you can talk about giving people the freedom to support themselves, but that is no different from what we have today. Government is not the hand that feeds, in fact, its the hand we let give the first few spoonfuls, whilst we as a community watch on. We learn from it, improve upon it, and most of all, rely upon it to make mistakes, so we don't have to.
So this month, in the vain of avoiding trouble, I have found the real solution. I'm not voting for any of you. Gentlemen, I wash my hands of this weirdness.

Cool story bro
I remember a time where UK had p solid guys running the show, about 3 years ago. It gradually went to shit for a couple years already.
Miau?
Vote Chewlice
waitwha-..
Seriously though, a rather good read, but implying a capable government wouldn't be able to be lucrative domestically and maintaining a strong hand in foreign affairs is absurd if you ask me, I've seen it done in much worse situations before and I've participated in large extent within government in times such as that without any problem what so ever. If members of government actually do a bit of work it's quite simple to achieve, and I'm confident that both mine and Alice's governments would be able to do it.
In theory sure. But government isn't about doing a bit of work. Its about chasing up, making sure people are doing what they should be doing, and doing it properly. Is a CP/Deputy going to have the time and patience to be doing this, whilst sitting in hours upon hours of IRC talks with other Presidents? I think not.
Priorities will have to be made, certainly, but I think you're exaggerating greatly. It took me and two other people to run an excellent government for months. I think you underestimate both me and Alice greatly. Multitasking is something all people who have excelled in politics in this game is at least decent at doing, which is enough to run a successful government.
jamesw is butthurt?
No butthurt. Just saying woe be us. Its an issue that neither of them has talked about what is going to define their term yet, they'll probably end up having a tiny paragraph in their foreign affairs part, about the most important thing to happen since we joined TWO...
How do we deal with any problems. Vote Atticus is what we do.
good job no one cares for your opinion...
Voted because you put forward many important issues.
On most issues mentioned the candidates have different opinions, so a good read can give a good choice.
Main issue TWO was not tackled by the main candidates, but I am sure it will be done in the coming month, either by them, either by the others in their cabinet.
As you said yourself, UK have contributed a lot to all the alliances it was in, most people are still active and will act. Have faith!
