An Odd Second Morning in Office
Aren Perry
I grabbed my briefcase and headed out the door for my second day as congressman.
I walk in the door, past the metal detectors and up to my private office.
Aah, a private office, yes, my first. Though working at Summerland Bakeries had its joys (who doesn't like the smell of fresh baked Q1 bread?) this was a little better. A little more, leather swivel chair-ish. The leather is nice.
"good morning Mabel"
Yes, I have a secretary named Mabel. This is to cut costs for the citizens of Illinois, of course.
"here's your morning mail, congradulations again on becoming a congressman (thank you Illinois), you have a call waiting for you in your office"
*smiles* Thanks Mabel.
ah, now to that leather chair...
*phone rings*-a fellow congressman
"you're going to have to fire Mabel"
"what?"
"we can't pay her... someone broke into the Federal Reserve and took all the money"
"Wow, I'll have to hire someone named something like, Felibur or Brittney Spears now."
"probably so Congressman Aren"
Oh well, perhaps listening to pre-recorded "live" songs all day over the intercom won't be so bad....
what a beginning to a first congressional seating.
Illinois, let me know what you feel about temporarily raising taxes to restore the federal reserve.

Interesting article. I think that the tax raises are unfortunately needed. The average worker/consumer is going to get screwed as taxes and prices go up while wages will stay the same but we don't have a lot of options. Just make sure that the taxes are lowered as soon as possible.
That's extremely hard to lower taxes back down for if everything goes well the government- many congressmen will not approve of lowering it.
Yeah but I would hope that the Congress will be reasonable considering the situation.

Congress doens't gain from the tax gains, do they? If anything, anyone who would support keeping taxes high probably won't make it to see the next election.
Donovanator: There are stipulations that are in place regarding the lowering of taxes which are of course hard to enforce but also trustworthy on the word of the congress. I have the same fears as you do. The stipulations on the proposed bill are that
A: if the admins return our money, the tax raise is dropped and B: as soon as we get roughly half of our money back the tax raise will be repealed. Without these I would never agree to the tax raise.
Also, I would personally prefer a more moderate 5% tax raise as oppoesd to the 10% raise. I don't think that the tax raise will kill us all though it will not be fun.
I would love to eventually get through the congress a slash to taxes below 10% in different fields where 10% is the holding rate. Seeing the opinions of alot of my congressman, however, I feel this will be hard to do (I will try disregardless).
and congressional people don't gain from tax raises, no.
I have to disagree with you Neil, Raizing taxes is not the answere. We are only heading for more trouble with this move. We need calm in government or we are only makeing our problems worst then they are now. A show of strength in times of trouble. We have plenty of gold and money even without the federal reserve and that money or tax base is growing daily. So we have experianced a set back with all of this stealing going on, changing our outlook on the future is not the answere here. We continue to make the eAmerican people pay for our governments missteps and misdealings with others and we still take no real action in correcting the problems at hand. This kneejerk reaction of raizing taxes is just that, a representation of a incompatant government that is paralized by fear and paranoia and then further crypled by there own ego.
I beleive we should give Justin and his aids a chance to fix this but I also beleive we need some real changes to take place in government. It is obvious to me that there are groups within our own government that do not have the best interest of our nation in mind and they are willing to pop there heads up and do things such as stealing and attempting to undermine the ones that they disagree with. When you look at our government it has basically been headed by the same people for a long time now and that is what needs to change. What we have right now is basically a meet the new boss, same as the old boss thing going on in government. I would suggest that some of those bordline people that are in the political parties of this country finally take a stand and make the move to a smaller party giving those parties a real sence of affectiveness an some real membership. All this party line crap is getting us no where fast.
The money we have in store isn't enough to sustain a war effort. Plus it's an attempt to get rid of inflation, though I don't see this as much of a problem as many congressman may. Any tax raise will be temporary, me and many other congressman agree to this and would cry bloody murder elsewise.
As for the "old boss" comment. The old boss was for low taxes, this one is for higher so they're not quite the same.
you are right though in that we need to maintain a positive outlook.
Good article, Congressman Aren.
