ADP - Some thoughts... Actually, quite a lot of thoughts...
Mongoosier
Greeting, fellow Australians!
I was going to reply on some other media threads with my usual insightful and cutting wit (surely, “boring and pointless inanities”? – Ed) but the more I typed the more I thought this might be worth a little article of my own. And by “little” I mean massive so apologies in advance.
Let me first declare an interest: I’ve been ADP since Dr Hugh lazarused this party long, long ago. It’s been up, it’s been down but it’s been my party.
During that time, I’ve been one of the worst PPs of it the game has ever seen, I’ve spent some hard hours, (well ok, minorly inconveniencing seconds) writing articles, helping with food drops, and so on.
It’s my party. Why?
There are two principles that have been the foundation of the ADP since its relaunch:
The first one is free weekly food drops to all members to help keep the fight going. Most senior members refuse this but when I was starting out in the game this was hugely helpful and I hope it is to our newer members these days.
The second one is the most important though – we are the party of the young player. By this we mean that everything we do is with an eye on youth development – kinda like my football team Everton but the ADP do it because we believe it’s the right thing to do and good for the future of Australia, not because Bill Kenright has been singularly unsuccessful in his increasingly desperate efforts to find a rich Sheikh or deranged American to buy the bloody thing off us.
I digress.
But I think this second principle is hugely important – and from the debates and arguments around this country so do most people here.
So, it saddens me to see my party being maligned in the media by others.
Although I did love the one about KH “selling its sole” to the ADP.
Rather more this:
Than the presumably intended this:
Unless this is an attempted pun on the fishy nature of our PP in which case cracking work, RD.
To (finally) work up to the point of this article… it seems the recent success of the ADP is being put down to sinister forces. That we somehow have evil intentions and by our landslide victory in the recent election is down to some hideous and perverse attempt to hoodwink the people and steal the country by stealth.
Well, apart from the fact that we have a Dictator, meaning that even if we had a Putinesque 120% of the registered vote we wouldn’t have any sexy buttons to press, I’m not buying that for even an instant, so I thought I might set out an alternative narrative.
As the official Lurking Menace (thanks JT) of the ADP, I’m privy to all high level discussions in the party, as well as some very, very low ones. So let’s just take a couple of random stats from the last few months of ADP PM threads:
Number of times an ADP member has insulted Guag in a childish and spiteful way, to which Guag has responded by threatening to send naked photos of himself: 83
Number of times an ADP member has tried to gather support for or create a sinister cabal intent on destroying eAustralia from within: 0
Number of times I’ve had to say the words, “sorry I’ve not been around much for
Number of times an ADP member has suggested we usurp the chosen and elected leaders of up eAustralia, slaughter the entire Cabinet and seize power in a coup so bloody it makes the October Revolution look like a teddy bears’ picnic: 0
So what else could the explanation be?
Could it be that we are doing our bit for our country? Making and sticking to some simple clear political ideals designed to foster growth and engagement amongst new players?
Let’s take a look!
JDS – the greatest and sexiest new player scheme in the eWorld! Yes, I may be slower than a week in jail at getting the admin done, but this is still a fantastic scheme. From memory this amazing endeavour has been run by an ADP member ever since I rejoined the game a year or so ago
Nooby Tuesday – a weekly article (doing the job of the seemingly non-existent DoEE) helping new players find their feet in the game and helping them out with food on top of that. That’s run by an ADP member too!
Young players in Congress? Well, this is kinda subjective but if we use level as a proxy for age (not quite true with the experience blockers we have now but as close as I can get) then we have four members from D1 in our Congress group of 12 (33
😵compared to four out of 20 from other parties combined (20
😵. Not bad, not bad. I’ve LOADS of other stats on this btw – don’t make me unleash them
🙂
The Mentor Scheme for new players? I’m not part of this anymore, mostly because most players when they reach level 8 have a greater grasp of game mechanics than I do, but when I was last involved this was mainly being run again by… ADP members, including being led by one. This may be true now, it may be not – let me know if it’s not. But in the time I was involved it certainly was true so the point stands.
Let’s look at something else, maybe activity? We are constantly bemoaning the apathy of so many in this country. Well, it’s been a lot bloody worse over the years, but yeah it’s not great. But once I hit the button on this rambling tripe, out of 12 articles in the Aussie media there will be seven from ADP members – 58% of the content.
Compare and contrast with a whopping one article from the Government – and that the DoD daily orders rather than anything more illuminating or insightful.
Let’s leave it there as this is far too long already and I can’t be bothered to upload more images to break it up but I can assure you that the vast majority of discussion in the ADP threads is about how we can better serve new players – whether ADP or any other political affiliation – and to further our great nation, rather than how many used tenners to stuff into the latest brown envelope to facilitate another shady back room deal.
I’m not saying that we are the only party doing something to move this country forward. There are a few others out there who are getting off their arses too so good on you.
But let’s just say if all parties did as much for this country as ours does this would be a better place.
TL/DR: ADP TILL I DIE!

For the rest of my RL, wherever I am and whatever I'm doing (please gods not during that!), whenever I hear or think of the phrase "sell one's soul" I am going to think of fish and laugh until my belly hurts.
Thanks, MG. 🙂
I merely provided the images - the praise is deserved by otters.
Just since we are covering typos I thought I'd drop one in. That's practically satire.
Nicely done.
Are there even any other parties other than ADP? lol
Well said!
ADP for Life!
Mongoosier, like yourself I have been a loyal ADPer since Hugh took me under his wing and taught me about the game. I have had the honour of leading the ADP several times and also leading the country on an ADP ticket.
However I also feel the need to speak my mind when I disagree about things being done. Sometimes it is in the ADP chat box, sometimes in the ADP thread or even my personal thread when I receive abusive messages from ADPers. And also like now in a public comment section.
While I have many questions, but due to the character limit on comments and the fact that I am about to fall asleep after a 15hr work day, I will only ask a few...
Number of times a ADP has done something sinister, that is not 0, it is actually a high number.
ADP member talking about overthrow, multiple times
Nooby Tuesday is pretty new
Young players for congress, is that including 'blockers'?
Articles, how many are for food drops to ADP only people (other parties tend to do it via threads and shout boxes), how many has to do with people defending the ADP recent 'blocking', how many have to do with the excuse for 'blocking'?
Government articles... As a congress member, they are apart of government. ADP holds the most seats in congress and there fore can and should step up to inform the voting public, rather then sit idly by complaining and making the current government look bad.
I know that I will get flack over my comments and maybe another abusive message. But when I see spam/propaganda articles clogging up the media, I tend to get a bit annoyed at it being called a 'win'. Yes in the past as a Cabinet member and also when I was a Senior position with the ADP I released articles with info and food drops, but I also ensured that media wasn't a washed with articles that 'blocked' the important ones.
Hi mate,
I don't want to get in a public slanging match with you - this is the last thing this country needs.
I just wanted to put a bit of a counter out there to some rather mean and baseless chat around at the moment. Far from just you - but I couldn't resist the sole thing, sorry 😃
Just a couple of points more generally. I'd rather see any old crap in the media frankly than an empty space where the media should be. It takes some folks a few goes to find their feet/ find their voice and that's fine.
The biggest disappointment is the lack of Government communication though. Once a week for a proper article from the CP/ Dic should be an absolute minimum.
You know my wider thoughts on this CP term from the previous Congress thread whilst I was in it and that's a separate thing and to be discussed there - the lack of communication though is obviously public domain and I'm right to call this out.
People need to get used to checking the full list of articles to see what's there. And pay attention to shouts, etc. - it's really not hard so articles shouldn't be buried.
If the CP can't or won't write decent articles then bring in a Minister of Information/ Press Officer etc. position and have someone work up an article from bullet points.
I don't agree that PPs should take the lead in informing the public (unless they are in Cabinet of course) actually. Yes, they should be publishing a lot more than most of them are now - but it shouldn't be necessary for them to fill a vacuum left by the Government.
And if the media isn't for propaganda then I must have been hallucinating through my Media Studies courses. Which I didn't take. But the point is still valid 😃
We sold some our shoe? Dammit!
Nice Everton reference.
I won't go into detail about some of your former members being shady because it isn't necessary. Not a huge fan of the ADP holier than thou attitude, but I do enjoy seeing parties being active, and it is something the ADP has always been.
It's actually a "sexier than thou" attitude, Cal, just to be precise... 😛
Thanks Cal! Being an EFC fan is frustrating at times - so nice to get a cheap joke out of it.
I hear what you are saying - I think it's MOSTLY role play as this thing should be, but yeah - we do like to "big ourselves up" as I believe the kids say.
But that's only because we are sexier, holier AND awesomelier than everyone else 😃
And fishier too but that's not something we shout about so keep it under your hat.
Excuse me MG but I am sure it is only 72 times I have offered to send Dic pics. Also it is not my fault that the dic pics were of Kattrrina naked in the shower as I accidently put them into the wrong folder on my computer
We've all been there Guag. We've all been there.
But I think you are forgetting to count that frenzied night of emailing after you came home drunk - there was some nasty sh*t went down there. I haven't slept in weeks in case I get That Nightmare again. Shudder.
