Rewrite the law!
Legendardisch
Greetings eNetherlands, we meet again!
I will cut to the case now.
Daniel Parker wanted to rewrite the lawbook, and that was several months ago and it didn't quite lift off.
So, here am I attempting to re do it.
Anyway here is a roadmap
Phase 1: Rewrite the lawbook in Dutch
Phase 2: Translate the rewritten lawbook to English
Phase 3: Fix grammar issues, both English and Dutch
Phase 4: Proofreading
Phase 5: Get Congressional Approval
Phase 6: Publish the new Lawbook and archive the Old lawbook
I think the phases are self explanatory.
However, nothing can be done alone.
And thats where you come in
Currently, I am recruiting for Phase 1, people will be recruited per phase.
To participate in Phase 1, you MUST be a NATIVE Dutch Speaker and you MUST have a google account.
As an addition to the lawbook, a terminology explanation chapter will be made to explain certain terminology.
The new lawbook can also be converted into a PDF, handy for sending it to new CM''s
If you want to participate, send me a motivation via the messaging system.
Thank you

Oh, the new lawbook will be written from scratch.
Also the terminology chapter will be made to make an end to insinuations like every party has its own understanding and stuff like changing stuff up.
Great to see you want this going again! I like the terminology chapter idea, ehm you may put me on the list if you want me.
I'm sure it will be difficult because, as I've said before, having too many voices can really end up prolonging the process and hindering progress from being made. However, I admire someone taking the initiative to fix something they believe needs fixing. Good luck!
Its not an easy task. But it can be done. The people who participate will be required to meet some requirements anyway.
Depending on how many people you have offering to join, it might be more beneficial to do it in English and then translate it all to Dutch.
Its easier to translate dutch to english. Beside the lawbook must be multilingual.
English is leading, so i think writing it in English and having some people translate to dutch would be better.
We shall see.
large task...good luck.
It isnt a small task either. But working in phases always work.
English as language ingame => English leading in lawbook => Rewrite in English first!
If the writers are all native Dutch, they better write in Dutch. It's far more easier to express yourself in your native language. In the lawbook every detail will be important. In your native language you will do this better than in a foreign language. So translating afterwards is better I think.
You are correct. It is far easier to express something in your native language than to do it in a foreign language, and as I said, translating from Dutch to English is far more easier.
Most terms that need to be used are in English. Personally I would go for English only, to not have any confusion in translating (and to skip the added work of translating, also in future changes).
Further, if your English isn't good enough, you shouldn't be helping with this either way!
The article says the first phase is in Dutch. Every phase new people will be recruited. So even people who can't speak English are able to help in the first phase according to the article.
I think it will be good to have both the Dutch and the English version, but the English version should be leading. There are still people who prefer to talk only Dutch. Thereby it is in the constitution right now for the lawbook to be in Dutch as well as in English.
Heikanu, my english is good. The current lawbook is also in Dutch. Stop whining and read the article.
First, I never said anything your English (or that of anyone else for that matter), I was talking in general.
Second, I know the current lawbook is also in Dutch, I'm saying that in my opinion English would be enough (as it is already the leading language)
Third, definitely no need to get unfriendly!
No.
I have explained my reasons on irc. Its my final word on it:
A Dutch and English lawbook will be made. In what order does not matter because participants get chosen per phase and both versions will be published at the same moment. And if it rules out a lot of participants well thats bad. Projects like these do not benefit from a too large group either and there are basic requirements people simply must meet to be eligible to even participate.
Still not agreeing, but good luck 🙂
I'd go with English first as well, but I'm up for it regardless. Put me down for all grammar, spelling and style edits as well as closing loopholes and double interpretations.
Sure. I am still writing it in Dutch first. Spir Tus gave the reason
*waiting for JJ to post that Dutch should be the leading language*
