Longbaugh
Jr. Senator, Hawai'i (USWP)
Jr. Member, Congressional Military Committee
Captain, NG 1st Platoon
Congressional Voting Record for the Week of 5/26 - 6/1
6/2:
Import tax on oil lowered from 30% to 1%. Proposed by SirEkim.
NO
Lowering the import tax is necessary. However, lowering it to 1% seems to act more as a symbol rather than fiscal responsibility. 3% to 6% is much more reasonable and acceptable.
6/2:
President of Brazil demanded a sum of 0 Gold from your National Treasury in return to a peace treaty with USA. Proposed by Darkvenom.
YES
Long overdue.
6/3:

YES
Do the math.
6/3:
President of Finland has proposed a MPP with USA. Proposed by Engram.
YES
President Engram asked that we renew an old signed MPP and Finland stands in the way of a furthered PEACE agenda.
6/3:
Import tax on wood lowered from 30% to 1%. Proposed by Kyle321n (NP)
NO
Lowering the import tax is necessary. However, lowering it to 1% seems to act more as a symbol rather than fiscal responsibility. 3% to 6% is much more reasonable and acceptable.
6/4:
President of Bosnia and Herzegovina has proposed a MPP with USA. Proposed by Friend Freeman.

This is a completely free MPP.

Transfer 99,999 USD from the country accounts to the Congressional Budget Office.
YES
A standard transaction.
6/4:
Import tax on moving tickets lowered from 30% to 1%. Proposed by cromstar.
YES
While I don't find it acceptable for other more affluent industries, 1% is a reasonable bracket for an import tax on moving tickets.
6/5:
President of USA has proposed a MPP with Croatia. Proposed by scrabman
YES
Croatia is one of the strongest nations in the world and offered to pay for half of our costs.
6/6:
Transfer 879 RON from the country accounts to the Congressional Budget Office. Proposed by Dmalicious.
YES
Loose Romanian currency that was added to the CBO.
6/6:
Import tax on grain lowered from 30% to 1%. Proposed by Tormod.
NO
Lowering the import tax is necessary. However, lowering it to 1% seems to act more as a symbol rather than fiscal responsibility. 3% to 6% is much more reasonable and acceptable.
6/6:
President of Greece has proposed a MPP with USA. Proposed by Jaguaros.
YES
The MPP is evenly split between us and Greece. They're a small nation and should be protected as much as Israel.
6/7:
Transfer 99,999 USD from the country accounts to the Congressional Budget Office. Proposed by maxpayne50.
YES
A standard transaction.
6/7:
President of Hungary offered a sum of 1 Gold to your National Treasury in return to a peace treaty with USA. Proposed by Shaok.
NO
Hungary is a beast... a beast that no peace treaty and no embargo will compromise. They are also big on PTO's. Staying at war with Hungary is as necessary as any war on the board.
6/8:
Transfer 2,630 HRK from the country accounts to the Congressional Budget Office. Proposed by maxpayne50.
YES
Loose Romanian currency that was added to the CBO.
6/8:
President of India has proposed a MPP with USA. Proposed by David Forde.
YES
India is a good ally. However, senator mjdiv's arguments directed toward the absurdity of their economic isolation regarding goods (imported food, gifts, and weapons are taxed at 99% while moving tickets are taxed at 85
😵while at the same time asking for help are very well-founded. I still think a MPP bodes well for us when considering the region and potential for India. I would like to see their import tax rates dropped to around 30%, but they're small and they're not bleeding their people dry. Romania, on the other hand, is the real criminal.

Longbaugh, why are 1% import taxes OK for 'less affluent' industries?
Seems like we should make as much of anything we can here, whether affluent or not. Thanks
@ richie450
I don't like theocrats. And, your paper is 1,000% more ridiculous and mad than "The Long Bow" could ever hope to be.
@ ssomo
We are lowering import taxes to spur business with the logic that if we drop everything down to 1% we'll get more imports (obviously).
The moving ticket industry is arguably the weakest industry (after oil I suppose). My argument is that we could keep our tax rates at, say 5% and would spur as much business that a 1% rate would. There's no need to drop it to the point of being a completely ineffective tax.
As for moving tickets specifically: considering the deprivation of an industry where as I type this only one company is offering anything higher than Q1 tickets, a 1% tax rate may not be the best, but it's reasonable when considering the proportion. The difference between a 1% rate and a 5% rate on food, gifts, and weapons is much greater than that same difference regarding moving tickets.
You could argue that we should make as much of anything we can here. I'd argue that smaller nations like India and Ireland should follow that course. We, as an eRepublik superpower can utilize a world economy much more effectively... and we should.
you copy p[aste ME!!
Great voting record, thanks Longbaugh. I appreciate the thought you've put into the tax change proposals.
