The Mindless Menace of eUSA Society
Cody Caine
Our country is one facing a potential crisis, caused by divisions; the most notable of late is the military division between the USAF and the JCS, this is not the only division however, there are divisions between members of congress, between congress and the executive, between the old and the new, the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak, the elite and those struggling to make a name for themselves in this game.
There are those who practice and teach that party comes before country, ego comes before effort, age comes before activity, apathy comes before opportunity, there are those that will have you believe that speaking out is a crime, that you should just follow suit, or be crushed.
There are those who are either unwilling or unable to accept change, those who cannot, or do not see the problems of the country, those who believe waiting will somehow solve the problems, when the fact is those who do not take action, are often the ones who never succeed, elitists who try to control you through force and threat are only the voice of madness, not the voice of America, whenever We the People give into conformity and just follow along mindlessly the whole nation is degraded.
For to often we honor swagger, and bluster and the wielders of force, to often we excuse those who are willing to build their own eLives on the shattered dreams of other players. Some will look for scapegoats, others look for conspiracy, but this much is clear anger breads violence, repression breads retaliation, and worse is the violence of institutions, indifference, inaction, and decay of our unity, this is the violence that afflicts the younger players, this is the slow destruction of the American spirit by those caught up in the past, while denying the present problems, and fearing the future.
For when you teach someone to hate and to fear other players based on beliefs, or the policies they pursue, when you teach that these people threaten our freedom, our jobs, and our country as a whole, then you also impress into them that they are to confront others not as fellow citizens but as enemies, to be met not with cooperation, but with conquest, to be subjugated and to be mastered.
Our eLives are too short, the work to be done is to let this sprit flourish any longer, so we must remember if only for a time, that we must unite so that we may all live out our elives in purpose and in happiness, surely we can learn at the least that division will never result in success, and that we the people of eAmerica must work a little harder to end the division and to bring unity back to the eUNITED States of America, so that we can become countrymen once again.

Great read, but a few spaces and a enter here and there would do wonders for the eyes.
Good job.

Good article
I still would like to try again lolz. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
two things, thanks for all the comments, and second if anyone knows how to 'double space' an article, please message me.
Have you heard of this brilliant new grammatical innovation? They are known as paragraphs.
For once in my eLife I agree with PTH. For f^ck sake, don't let it happen again!!! Goes to find a drink.
if Pizza was the American he claims to be, he would have something to say about the context not the style, the same goes to you, if you are going to be rude, take it to someone elses article.
Great article, and very true. Voted.
wall o text needs pictures
While the "wall of text" might not be the best idea, and trust me, I used it for months, the content is great, and we could focus on that instead of giving the fella a hard time.
And to PtH II: No need to be an ass to a newer player, considering he's still 3 times the eAmerican you'll ever be.
If you want it to be taken seriously, then you need to learn to made it legible. To me it is nothing but one big run on. Now I realize my eyes are older then most, but how many will even try to read it completely?
I got the first 2 lines, after that it all ran together, it is wayyy too hard for me to read.
So maybe instead of jumping to conclusion, you should take constructive criticism from us older folks, and learn from it.
As he gets older in-game, I'm sure he'll start working like I do and use headers. When ya start out, you're just trying to get some good content. I do agree though, the wall o text as Jon Malcolm calls it is kinda hard to read.
the point of this article is not to please fans, if I want to attract fans, I would have added other subjects, that will be covered in my next article, but at the least I have added some separation to the writing.
The paragraphs help so much, thanks Cody. (No sarcasm intended)
and its all on the same subject line, in some past articles since I added the logo, I do have separation of subjects, but this is one subject.
Occupy eRepublik!
Much better separated like that! Thanks.
Oooo much better! Now it's an awesome article! Thank you Cody 😃
Well stated.
Btw, to those above me, complaining about lack of pictures is something a third grade child does. Do you pick up Dr. Seuss books because you can't read a novel, because it has no pictures? Probably no - and if you do, I suppose everybody is entitled to like what they want - because what really matters is the content.
This article needs to be voted up like crazy, and the newbies who are unlike the author of this article and myself need to be taught not to listen to and fear everyone above them in level and age.
Look, after living in NA IRL for the past 22 years, I've concluded that your society is organized and lead by some of the worst elitists imaginable. Both in Canada & the US. This is also the case in eRep. Therefore, just as in real life, those that do not conform to the ideals set by your leaders become marginalized and ignored. Shunned and disenfranchised, these "lower classes" inevitably rebel after a while, shattering society for a time before it's rebuilt by a new set of pompous elites.
What amazes me both here and IRL is the complete lack of "there but for the grace of God go I" thinking by your social elite. They truly believe they are infallible and can never do wrong or fall from grace. Yet inevitably they do in the end. This premise explains how the eUS gets conquered from time to time in spite of it's strength and many regions, and it also sheds light on some IRL evens (ENRON, lack of WMD's, housing crisis, etc.)
that is an interesting perspective JyM22, thank you for commenting.

V & S
Let us send Paul Revere to ride and spread the word of this article.
Actually, everything else aside, the misconception here is that the problem exists between the USAF/JCSF. It doesn't. Or at least, as long as we're being civil towards one another it doesn't. Fabricating a non-existent divide is poor journalism, imo, but rather than beating a dead horse until it's pulp, why don't you look into what divide there actually is?
You ask an everyday Army/DF/SF soldier about hating on the JCSF, they're probably going to laugh and shrug. They don't care. They do their jobs. I'm sure the same applies to the JCSF soldiers as well. The problem that exists, existed at the top on both sides, due to fundamental differences. Hell, it wasn't even a USAF/JCSF divide. It was executive/JCSF. The USAF has never been involved in choosing sides, because we really don't care, unless someone directly steps on our toes...a LOT.
So stop worrying yourselves over whether or not the USAF/JCSF hate each other. We both still fight for the country. We just have different styles/marching orders. They are free as a militia to determine what they do with their damage, USAF answers directly to the PotUS. Everything is simply dramatic trappings to orchestrate more sensationalist BS, imo.
that wasn't the only sort of division mentioned, but I do thank you for the insight.
This wasn't the big deal you make it out to be until you and others started creating articles to blow the situation up.
USAF or JCS isn't a big deal as long as we all fight for the eUS and agree that bacon is awesome.
everyone reads the first paragraph, and then they comment it seems, there is more division in this country then just the military issues.
Well, the implication there is that no one is being taught to hate and/or fear anyone else in regards to a game, at least as far as the USAF is concerned. (Well, maybe the exception of Pizza, but enough said about him, lest he rear his ugly head.)
As for the rest of what you've asserted, elitism only works if the public lets it. Well, clarification, elitism only works in regards to elections. Your votes are your voice. It's very easy to use the well traveled "OMG ELITIST!!!11" road and many do, but at the same time, it's the public that keeps voting people in. So, if you're REALLY that tired of the same old jaded players, you have a way to counteract them.
Now, do I really feel like it's an elitists in power versus the younger generation thing? No, not at all. It's a matter of choosing your own level of involvement in regards to helping out in cabinet positions, then actually DOING THE WORK. Exec never turns down extra sets of hands and I'm sure the experiences would be invaluable FOR the younger generation. You just have to keep an open mind and willingness to do work. Oh, and make sure you sign up for the jobs when they're announced.
Stating that there is divison without actually proposing anything to lessen that is pretty vacuous. We have a lot of calls for some 'unity' from all sides of all barricades, but that is ultimately little different from what the article described as believing "waiting will somehow solve the problems".
Point at the problems and propose solutions instead.
@Liquid Oxygen - two points:
1) If you vote for non-elitist players, you get a less experienced decision maker who can make poor decisions. It's a big trade off.
2) In North American society, most elitists are not born that way (a good thing) instead they become a part of "the system" if you want to call it that, as they learn to navigate the halls of power. The non-elitist will just become the elitist eventually. Ofc there are exceptions. Think George W. (born that way), Billy C. (became an elitist) Ralph Nader (never compromised, stayed an outsider).
@Stranger - I really don't think this can be permanently solved. Every society has it's limitations - why won't Hungary make peace with Romania for example? There's only so much you can do and e-society will always be a reflection of RL society. Observing these characteristics is the main reason for my playing this game.
of course I can't suggest anything apart from making everyone whose fighting sit down and talk, but that seems unlikely to happen, and the elites [and they are out there] are often also in party control, thus they can make sure any voter gets sent to where they want there "old friend" to get elected, where all I can do is ask for votes, and campaign.
Further this was written to try and get some people who just follow along to realize that they should not just follow along, and that they need to express there own views, like the partys say they are allowed to, because too often it seems people either follow party lines or they don't vote, and this is the truth because not everyone votes, Apathy is alive and in full force, to many people don't try, because the hill is steep.
Voted.
It's sometimes hard to remember:
1) You can only persuade another person if you are respectful in your approach, and,
2) This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. Yelling or getting yelled at is not fun.
Yeah, I'm not saying there aren't elitists, but a lot of the time a lot of people who worked very hard to get far in this game get painted with a very broad brush. I can think of many examples of guys/gals who started low and worked their collective asses off in order to get where they wanted to be.
Oblige is one case, Kria Erikson is another.
I think what gets lost though is the fact that the people holding the same old positions DON'T always want to get stuck with them either, but since they're well qualified and experienced, they continue to do them. In complete honesty, a lot of the guys in cabinet level positions/party leadership, would LOVE more new people stepping up and wanting to learn mechanics, earn new contacts, etc.
90% of the metagame imo, is making contacts, because you never know when you're going to need favors returned, etc. So, if you're really wanting to get involved in EITHER conflict, you're gonna have to get out there, sign up for the jobs, put work in, etc. Otherwise, the only other path is to carve your own, which takes time, money, energy, etc. I'm not saying that choice is a bad one either, but without support from other players, you'll be the most popular guy in a 20 man party, etc.
Good luck, though.
v'ed, already sub'ed.
Posting late 'cause I've been busy. Speaking as one who tends to 'run on', it's a learned art to make a paper readable. Either self taught or book learned, it takes a special knack. Nonetheless your writing style shows real promise. You understand the subject, then conceptualize the way you wish to present it and express your ideas in a concise manner, quite a few here do not. In this case, form follows function. You have the 'function' part down pretty well, the 'form' will develop over time. It is called developing your style.
As to the content of the article, I agree with most points. Sadly, I can't be generous enough to follow your advice. My party is under PTO and I feel it is my obligation to do whatever avails itself to defend it.
well when your party is in trouble you defend it.
"I really don't think this can be permanently solved."
Then why keep crying over it? I mean if you have no actual agenda, what's the point?
"the elites [and they are out there] are often also in party control, thus they can make sure any voter gets sent to where they want there "old friend" to get elected, where all I can do is ask for votes, and campaign."
Votes are openly bought and sold. The highest offer I've got during the congressional was 200$ and 10 tanks. I tried to find someone to represent an agendaI'dsupport - cutting VAT. Failed. If 'all you can do' was asking for votes and campaign - what's the difference really? Exchanging 'elites' for a different set of 'elites'? Raise a convincing agenda, propose methods to make it happen, and ask for support for that. At the moment it seems perfectly unimportant who's in Congress and who's not. Regardless of unimportant rifts between unimportant factions with non-existent programmes.
you know what, to many of you are so caught up in apathy, that it is to the point that it is just accepted that nothing can be changed, well here's the truth, that's bull crap, anyone who accepts and stands by is useless so stop wasting my time with these attacks on my article, because I don't have a solution at hand, it's not like you do, so why don't you stop with the negative comments toward me.
You voice general dissent (without any idea of an alternative) and you complain about 'negative comments'?
You seem quite obsessed with this 'revolutionary' theme. You have a party, an MU, a paper - all of them 'revolutionary'.
Isn't it perfectly natural to ask what the goals of your 'revolution' were?
"it is just accepted that nothing can be changed (...) anyone who accepts and stands by is useless (...) I don't have a solution at hand"
Tell me moar about 'bull crap' ...
I have stated my goals before, I have stated my parties goals, if you can't be bothered to go look, stop wasting my time.
and my final thought before in relation to this article:
Effort equals results, if you have time to attack those who see problems with in the government, you have time to put in the effort to fix the problem.
