Speaker's Report (April 16th)
Funky 24
So the eCanada forums broke down.
I know, I know, it's a miracle we haven't descended into anarchy without them. This leaves a single PM thread for our Congress to assemble and for me to... 'Speak-er'.
Apart from voting Gh0st3rr as a Chairman of the Ambassador Corps, there was no ODC business going on anyway apart from my Constitutional Amendment, which coincidentally includes a provision for initiating such a thing through articles in our media.
I also oversaw through the PM thread a vote on changes to the Asgard Treaty. Our representative to Asgard HQ, novice citizen Uncle Buck started a vote on this with Congress before I got around to it.
Sigh.
I'm not going to explain how in detail, in real life this would be the equivalent of say, a Deputy Minister kicking the Speaker onto the street and taking over his job.
Someone please kick me out of this job and throw me onto whatever counts as the equivalent to hard pavement in eRepublik. Plato's heart maybe?
Because it's back to studying.

Funky becomes Speaker and the Forum 'breaks' ~ I'll be eating that hot fudge sundae out of my tinfoil hat.
To be fair about Buck, he's from a post-forum era where the Congres Rules Order aren't the same mantra of the eCan Govt as it used to be. It also gets a bit more complicated when the forum and forum masking/speaker privileges have gone totally out the window in a PM-thread discussion.
hmmm, I wonder if we have a backup procedure that kicks in when the forum breaks down. I mean, do forum rules still apply to a PM thread managed in-game? Seems to me that these are two different entities and the only way to ensure CRoO rulse are followed via in-game votes would have been to establish and test out that custom sometime earlier.
Someone might have brought that up one day long ago.
I'll make all the rules for this new age, don't worry.
Buck wants to know what colour crayon you'll be using so that he can find a good match to accompany the Asgard Treatyola.
Reminds me of the great days of Muglack as speaker were forum votes wouldn't happen if he disageed, he just pretended to be afk for a week so he didn't have to even call a vote.
Only a dedicated and enthusiastic eCanadian would remember.....wait....you left already.....but you were gonna save us from ourselves
"Our representative to Asgard HQ, novice citizen Uncle Buck started a vote on this with Congress before I got around to it."
.... You're welcome.
I'm not going to get into a he said she said fight with you, Funky. We talked about this at length yesterday. You know I didn't just drum this up myself. I passed everything on to Homer as well.
AHH! I forgot my tradition when I am in an article.
I'M FAMOUS!
I won't blame this on one of our impressionable people.
Indeed.
It was me! Buck just did the PM 😛
btw, thanks Buck o/

Are those fudge sundaes for Asgard HQ - as I remember you telling HQ to eat ice cream when I asked you to start that discussion / vote when the forums were still up?
And like I promised - I delivered your message to HQ that day.
Their loss if they didn't follow it. The discussion had been up for several days, but apparently Congress didn't care much.
So you're saying that you had plenty of time to "get around to it" ?
Don't be a prick. It was not being discussed, so I waited a little bit longer before setting up a vote.
Seriously - you were being a prick towards HQ .. and now you don't want to eat your own ice cream? I just pointed out that you should not criticize Buck for doing your job, when you didn't do your job!
HQ can wait by our rules. If you have a problem with them, I suggest you run for Congress.
By now you should already understand that I don't have any problems with congress rules - I just don't understand how you can intrepret them so that the whole alliance waits a week while you do nothing, and then you are amazed when somebody contacts congress directly and not through you. We asked nicely .. you told the HQ to eat ice cream.
I see HQ is lactose intolerant. Listen, when only one Congress member responds to a thread, and then the thread disappears, next time you wait as I set up a procedure for roleplaying voting sans forum.
If you don't have a problem with Congress rules, then you shouldn't be arguing.

Of course I can argue your intepretation of the rules ... and your lack of logic in this matter.
If that's the case, then why do we even need a Speaker? Explain.
Weak rhetoric - is the Speaker above criticism? If you would pause and read what I'm telling you: I don't have problems with Congress rules (of which Speaker is a part) ... I just don't understand your interpretation of these rules.
It's CDC. You were supposed to have no idea of how far along things were going. Needless to say, between the lack of debate and the forums going down, there was no reason to upend my authority just because of a bunch of players in HQ were getting wet over something trivial.
Its an interesting experiment on conduction nationwide activities within the game instead of offsite.
