The villagers gather round baying for the blood of Wyvernjack, unfortunately, the bureaucracy introduced by Dr Hugh doesn't permit a lynching without a role call. This is when they notice the absence of Callum Ormand. They immediately ruch to his garden where they discover that he has been devoured by gigantic man-eating earthworms.
The villagers are most disappointed by this, Dr Jardon's new anti-dying policy permits only one death per day, (the wolves appear to be using the loophole of killing in the night) meaning that there is one less villager, but also means that the villagers won't be able to try out their fancy new way of executing people.
