[PotUS] Basic Decency
Derphoof
There exists a place in eUS Society called the eUSA Forums.
Like most national forums, both past and present, it contains the meeting place for Congress, as well as other discussion boards. It also contains well-established rules that govern the way that Congress does business, to keep things organized. These include set procedures for in-game votes, as well as for picking the “Speaker”, who serves as the sub-forum moderator for the month.
In that sub-forum, not much occurs in this day and age.
If I want to NE/AS any country, and request funding, there’d be a little discussion. Other than that? Congress discusses a, largely meaningless, budget that is roundly approved every month for social programs and MPPs. Sometimes, meaningless additions are made to the budget for amusement: like “ponies” for Rainy Sunday. Congress could actually even approve $0 for MPPs, and I may have to deposit money into the treasury for each one, as I would not be allowed to spend US money on MPPs.
Aside from that, there is a sign-in thread to determine “quorum” for the week, to stop people from “passing” votes with minimal participation. Just as well, Congress elects a Speaker, as mentioned before.
This is basically all that goes on.
Well, almost all.
We also have the Immigration stuff, as a result of national PTO attempts, and the like.
However, what seems to get people really riled up are the motions made to “punish” people in Congress, for “rogue proposals” or just for behavior. The former is usually done because someone accepts “non-approved” citizens. This is done because Congress can “organize itself as it sees fit.” Just as well, it’s Congress’ forum and they can sorta do whatever and pass whatever “laws” they feel they can execute.
This power is similar to the RL US Congress’ ability to censure people. However, Congressmen can actually be expelled by other congressmen, irl. Most of the time, in this eUS, it is to joke around or troll people.
There have been plenty of times where someone like, Tenshibo for example, says “Yo fam, I don’t like Franklin Stone/Arrden/etc. Can we censure him?”
Then, a bunch of people get really pissy, and piss each other off, and we eventually vote on the censure, or “blacklisting”, or whatever. What happens, 99.9% of the time, is that that motion is voted down in a near unanimous fashion.
Nothing actually happens.
Many times, members of The Black Sheep Party have been the targets of such proposals.
They've been the target of a lot of vitriol in Congress.
When they first arrived on the scene, it was hot on the trails of the AFA PTO effort, rescuing the American political system after WTP was PTO’d by Valiant Thor. It stuck after the LIberty Advancement Party had failed to develop a culture of its own, and merged with WTP.
So, the Black Sheep stepped up to fill the role of the 5th political party, when the nation needed it most.
However, they certainly weren't a well-liked group by many in the established T4 at the time. They were called traitors, thieves, and sheepf***ers. It got to the point where I had to censure everyone who uttered the term on the forum.
While that made people shut up, it didn't bring any more respect to the Sheep.
The Sheep had to endure disrespect and vitriol for year…
After year…
After year…
Nevertheless, the Sheep have displayed the utmost respect for the Constitution, IES, and laws passed by the Congress.
- Did the Sheep knowingly evaded IES procedure to let in someone?
- Have the Sheep blatantly disregarded the Constitution?
- When the Sheep found themselves at odds with the “Defensive Dictator” did they attempt to subvert it?
The answer to all of that is “no.”
They've respected everything about the meta, and received no respect from many for their loyalty and endurance. Their unwavering patriotism has brought them nothing, in the eyes of many.
Many in congress have treated them with disrespect, if not outright hostility.
Shame on them.
People wonder why the Sheep return with vitriol, when it has been dished out to them so often.
People wonder aloud why they wouldn't participate on the forum, when it only causes them stress and anxiety.
Unlike the current SFP PP, Phil Harmony, who seems hellbent on disrespecting the meta rules and attempting to take power for power’s sake, the BSP demands only basic decency and equal implementation of the law.
Many people grew up hearing the phrase “treat others as you want to be treated.” Others may know ”Thumper’s Rule,” which is: “If you can't say somethin nice, don't say nothin at all.”
Whether you like it or not, we all need each other to succeed, and it's best to encourage cooperation instead of dissociation. While I know I've tried, I'm not perfect, and this applies to me as well.
So, if you're out there. If you're reading this article, and you think I'm talking about you:
If you can't find it possible to respect your faithful countrymen as you respect yourself and your party, then you're part of the problem.
If you treat your respectful countrymen like you treat a foreign enemy, then you're part of the problem.
Respect people.
Have some basic decency.

Have some decency.
I love the decency behind the meta-blacklisting of players.
Which I am against. I find it unproductive, and I don't believe it to be just.
You're a little bit late to raise your voice.
too much words 🙁
Sorry, bby. I like words 😭
But at least have the decency in you
To leave me alone when you freaks see me out
In the streets when I'm eating and feeding my daughter
To not come and speak to me
I don't know you and no, I don't owe you
A mot-her-hvuck-in thing
I'm not Mr. N'Sync
I'm not what your friends think
I'm not Mr. Friendly
I can be a prick ...
didn't read it Brits always use a lot ohv words to say nothing
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him ...
Yes, the pig-elite is always just lot's of words saying nothing.
We need a better president!

Nobody communicated with me about plans by different PMU's to liberate Australia. I was awoken in the middle of the night by the Indonesian CP on Discord who alerted me that "Americans" were interfering in their war with Australia.
I responded by putting up a light amount of CO's, for Indonesia, out of my own pocket, as we have decent relations with them. Went back to sleep. About 40k hit the battlefield for Indo.
Jk, I only spent 23k according to the MU page. A paltry amount, really.

About .007%, so less than 1% of active eUSA citizens participated in the Australian RW, yet Indonesian CP saw that as an eUSA interference with their war and important enough to contact the eUSA CP when the government wasn't even involved.
Next time I see any Indonesian citizen fighting against any eUSA interest, I'll be sure to contact our CP so they can have the Indo CP set COs to address the situation. It seems only fair that if they insist the eUSA government is responsible for every citizen's actions, then they in turn are responsible for each and every Indo citizen's actions.
Oh and I failed to mention that those .007% of eUSA participants resulted in 33.3% of the Indonesian eCongress voting to NE the eUSA. Overreact much? Doesn't seem relations are very good.
Relations are fine. I wouldn't put a knee-jerk proposal like that past just about any nation, in that circumstance.
Yes, it may be less than 1% of active citizens, but those citizens made a concerted effort to organize the liberation of an occupied territory. They did the most damage, and were the primary cause of liberation. Those citizens also did this at a time when Indonesia is actively working with our Pacifica alliance in a TW with Hungary.
Derphoof, since almost no media is released by administrations anymore, how is anyone outside the "forum" or administration to know anything of what is going on?
In addition, the region wasn't liberated, Indo still owns it. Also not seeing how a TW that doesn't involve the eUSA or that probably most of us don't even know about has any bearing on a silly RW that wouldn't have even removed Indo from Australia. Actually, during the fighting, I know one Indo player was told they could take the province right back, that there was no intention to continue battling there.
In the first battle, Northern Territory was liberated. That's what they were upset about. At the time, they were concerned that Americans would continue starting an fighting in RWs until Australia is fully liberated. The TW has a bearing on us because we are a part of Pacifica. We don't go around screwing over our own alliance's TW partners.
I've already had to deal with this once lately, as Wild Owl has been setting COs against Canada over a personal issue. Only difference is that I don't have the will to match his money in those battles, whereas I was able to throw a small sum at the Indonesian RW to calm them down and stabilize it.
A TW, is a training war, correct? I wanted to make sure we're talking about what I think we're talking about. So a training war, not a real war, that we aren't involved in, is somehow going to screw over an ally because of a RW somewhere? Certainly no Indo citizen has ever joined or contributed to a RW seeking a medal or simply because they were bored. Eleven eUSA citizens do that and it is an international crisis.
I wasn't aware that the other RW had liberated an Indo region as I didn't participate or pay attention to it. The first time in a long time I actually do something active in the game and it is an international crisis. No worries for you though, you'll not have to "deal with" anything regarding me as I'll return to doing nothing.
Signing off........
The major goals that BSP has had during my time in the party have mostly been achieved. No dictatorship (although I did personally support the defensive dictatorship) and low taxes. The last major thing I wanted to see happen was for people to treat each other in a civil manner. We didn't have to agree on certain issues but I could see no reason to insult and degrade one another.
I am one of the single term BSP eCongress persons by choice. I had no interest in being required to return to those negative forums. Since my term long ago, I have rarely visited the forums except for terms where I worked with DoCA and during those, I seldom visited the legislative area.
If decorum is actually enforced in the eGovernment areas of the forum, I would probably visit the forums again. I agree they do offer some superior functions that are not available within the game. It is the lack of decorum moderation which turned me off. There is enough negativity IRL, I wasn't going to voluntarily subject myself to it in a game.
My problem is more with one person Phil Harmony (who has proven time and time again he loves talking the talk without walking the walk
I wholeheartedly believe that moderation regarding decorum can be better enforced, and I hope that the right nominees for Speaker in the coming months will do just that, making Congress a better place for all.
I'd hate to see people refuse to be in congress simply because of sub-standard moderation.
Jessina's story is one that I've experienced so many times. I've watched people join the game because of the political side of the game, really get into it. One guy was a political science major. Then they are introduced to those forums, they would log out & just like that they are gone. Nobody wants to spend time somewhere that is unwelcoming & hateful. It's human nature. Players deserve mutual respect in a game they are trying to play for fun.
Again, I agree with you there. While such rhetoric and attitudes may be understandable in RL politics, this is a browser game, for heaven's sake.
Surely, we can have more respect and decorum in a game. Mutual respect should be a given.
If you get rid of the Meta crap, you don't have these problems.
Many countries have done that and later realized that all that's left of the game is a fight button and a button to buy gold/packs. The game is even shittier without meta.
When it gets down to 2 or 3 people doing all the posting and half of congress does not even bother to register it is not a choice.
I think in a lot of countries the Meta was actually dead long before it was removed.
2010 was a good year though.
All glory to PilotPhil our Liberator!
(Organized a successful Revolution and overthrew a Dictator)
Who is the meta-authority of the pig-elite, regarding immigration?
Is that your double-faced pig-disgusting friend Wild Owl?
LIBERATOR OF AMERICA!
Long live the Decembrists!

The fact is that the game IS pretty shitty. I think what people really object to is creating a shitty meta on top of it. If it weren't for the "trouble makers" this game would be total snooze fest.
Hooray for wedge tactics!
I'm more than willing to work with the SFP as well, if the party decides to reform the meta and foster a relation of mutual respect, rather than destroy the meta and antagonize everything. A commitment to good governance and mutual respect is all I ask.
In terms of reform, I believe abolishing the blacklist would be a good start.
However, I don't believe I've seen any SFP efforts in the direction of true reform. I talk to Jimmy quite a lot, and even Phil sometimes. It'd be nice to have a constructive dialogue, and I hope we can have that now and in the future. A fractured community is not good for the nation.
It would be nice to have a constructive dialogue indeed. I have tried that several times on the eUSA forums. It failed all times. The real problem is for me (beside not understanding the humour of the trolling) that many can only see members of congress as members of their party. Some parties are hated by majority and made me decide months ago not running for congress again and stay away from the eUSA forums. I don't see any real change happening, but you can always do a little effort...
I agree with Niemand.
It's never too late to work constructively, but the current token olive branch smacks of too little, too late.
Honestly, I don't believe that people are truly "hated" for being a member of another party (with the exception of a few). We're all Americans, and should treat each other with mutual respect.
I believe true change can be made by people on all sides to foster a community of mutual respect and understanding,
I hope you take hold of the moment and run for congress again, to add your valuable input to discussion, and to help foster that environment of mutual respect.
It helps to see some constructive remarks ingame, however I don't think I will run again before I have seen a real change. Maybe I have taken the trolling and hateful remarks on the eUSA forums too serious (I have seen this also on national forums of other nations too much). I know it is a game, but because it is I want to have fun. The national forums have spoiled that too much sadly.
Sheep are people too!
At least the boycott of eUSA forums brings some ingame information. o7
