Dal has won the most seats of any political party over the last 8 months and has let every social program in the govt die, replacing most of them with their own charities. They identify as Center-Left. I assure you, they may mask themselves as socialist, but actions speak louder than words.

The only party to advocate socialism was the CEP, hell they even had communes to redistribute wealth. Unfortunately the CEP fell apart.

General Managers with multiple companies no longer even need workers. GMs not only control the means of production; they can also easily BE the means of prodction at their multiple companies now that we can work multiple times a day.

@Plugson: You are right GMs no longer need employees, this has caused even greater problems for those who don't have the means to purchase a company. ie the rich are getting significantly richer, while the poor are subject to a roller coaster ride of up and down wages.

@Devoid, from what I have seen and read, the socialism model tends to strengthen eNations, including Canada, which thrived under a far more socialistic approach to the game that we have now.

Social programs require money unfortunatly, something we have had taken from us twice. Get the two useless former Prime Minister thieves to give us that money back and I assure you, the Canadian government would be happy to put back into place the social programs we used to run. Until then though we can't even afford the military we have.

@etem: I couldn't agree with you more. In fact it was the theft during the Dade (Cola) administration by one-ron-man that resulted in start of massive cuts to social spending in eCanada. I have in the short time I have played eRep seen the politics removed from our eNations political discourse as a result of the multiple thefts. Hopefully a return of genuine political debate would help to bolster involvement of a greater number of citizens and help to produce ethical leaders of conviction (wishful thinking).

@Octavian_F: It was actually the 2+ hour discussion I had with you about RL politics that prompted me to start this conversation about our government and political priorities. While we disagreed a lot on issues, the discussion reminded me of what is missing from the game today: actual discussion on advancing philosophical and political agendas (eCan need to rejoin the rest of the active eWorld and revive our eNations political discourse).

It means that everyone works for the greater good.

Fascism is described as a system of government characterized by rigid one party dictatorship, a forcible suppression of opposition, all private economic enterprises should be under government control, aggressive nationalism, racism and militarism.

besides there is a party in Canada that employs that Fascist model, its the Military Dictatorship Party. They are much bigger than the Socialist Party of eCanada.

Well Dominik, I'm in favour of people paying each other what they both agree is a fair wage for their labour. If an employer sets a price and a worker agrees to it for his labour, that is called voluntary arrangements (freedom). The worker is protected by the presence of other employers to which he can sell his labour. The employer is protected by having others from which he can purchase labour. That type of arrangement is what we like to call freedom. You may think it's anarchistic, but it's the only system that doesn't involve (ultimately) people pointing guns at your head and telling you where to work, where to live and how much you are getting paid. I strongly suggest you read Milton Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom" for a fuller description that I can give here. If you think I'm a crazy neo con anarchist that is fine, but I can assure you, you are a freedom hating Nazi whose policies would see this world mired in misery, slavery, chains and death. That is always the end result when free men give control over their own destinies up to government. The fact that you would freely do it is only a mark of how brainwashed you really are.

As socialism applies to eCanada, given game mechanics, I would advocate for a State-Directed economy (which is somewhat inherent to our current approach to the game) that involves a variation on market socialism: Market socialism consists of publicly owned or cooperatively owned enterprises operating in a market economy. It is a system that utilizes the market and monetary prices for the allocation and accounting of the means of production, thereby retaining the process of capital accumulation. The profit generated would be used to directly remunerate employees or finance public institutions. In state-oriented forms of market socialism, in which state enterprises attempt to maximise profit, the profits can be used to fund government programs and services through a social dividend.

ie. The government advances an economic goal to generate $$$ to participate in the global economy, however compensates workers with the resources they require (food, weapons, houses, etc.) to eliminate the financial barriers to a citizen's advancement in the game that has resulted in a decline in our standard of living and seen many new players quit.

Yeah, if you don't understand the basic historical background behind using the term "socialist", there's really no point discussing history with you. Obviously since they said they're socialist, they were (it's not like the entire left-wing of the Nazi party was purged during the Night of the Long Knives). @Roger: IRL, I would be considered anti-government and anti-state socialist. Chomsky is actually quite close to my RL beliefs. In game, though, state socialism is the way to go since the state is the best way to reflect the citizens' interests and there is no possibility of oppression.

I just realised that you are a greed is good kinda person. Thats all good, let me try to use an example of how socialism (which by the way we are already on the road to) would benefit eCaanda from an economic point of view. Lets take your example about wages and invert it. Lets say that wages drop significantly, however workers are being compensated in an alternative way (ie. the food and weapons they require). Government and workers collectives (there are already dozens in eCanada ~ just look at TCO) would help to keep costs low, yet profit off of the sales of their goods abroad. The eCanadian economy would be strong, people well fed and armed and everyone advancing, improving our position in the eWorld. (please note that I have simplified this, however a much longer explanation will be found in our Parties economic platform, which is in the works).

In a game where people only have to click a button to simulate an entire days' work, I totally agree with you. There's no room within that click for a person to churn out a half assed effort because their hopes and dreams were crushed before they could ever take flight.

I was speaking from an IRL standpoint. Within the game, you are very possibly absolutely correct, and I do not know the workings of the game well enough to put up a cogent argument to the contrary, even if felt one were required, which I don't.

However, let me just say this. If we were to be a socialist state, and the government largely controls all industry, and I were told, "No Carlos, you can't work for your buddy Goran, we need you to work over here instead.", and had the power to enforce that decree, I would quit the game immediately. I'm not saying that's what is going on here, and I speak only for myself in that regard, but I suspect a good few other eCanadians might feel the same way. I quote the words of Patrick Henry,

P.S. Greed is not good, but motivation, innovation and being able to reach for you dreams is not the same as greed.
