These three folks represent the picks of the top 10 parties in the nation, minus ofc the AFA.
This vote will represent the popular opinion, as well as mirror the mechanical vote system in eRepublik while avoiding, for those of you who detest doing so, forum participation.
The code for this poll will be posted here, and you are encouraged and requested to post the poll in every article and paper in the nation for the 24 hours that the poll will be open. The rsults from all the polling places tabulate together in the results IN all those same polling places.
The poll vote will open: Tonight, October 31, 2012.
Mike Ontry will release it first, with the code for everyone else to post who would like to hold a polling place in their own papers.

So there have to be 5 candidates, even if 5 people don't really want the job.
I'd rather have real fairness and real choice than just the appearance of such.
Different priorities, I guess.

There will be 5 candidates, just like the mechanical vote in eRep always provides.
I didn't invent that, that's not "my priority", that's mechanics fg.
I needn't talk anyone into it. We'll simply look down the list to the 6th, 7th, 8th parties, etc as necessary to fill 5 slots, as the game does mechanically.
There were only 2 candidates on the ballot last month...because just like in this primary cycle- everyone dropped out.
And for the record, in case anyone didn't know- you don't need to have your party's endorsement or be in a Top 5 to run for POTUS. You can make yourself a viable candidate just by campaigning for it before the 29th. Even if no one else will take you seriously, the Feds consider EVERYONE who campaigns for the job, regardless of party affiliation ('cept AFA)

There doesn't have to be 5 candidates for the poll. To mimic the game mechanics there would be a max of 5 but there can be 2, 3, or 4 as well.

There were only 2 candidates because America came together in 'Unity', which got fired as soon as Fluffer flopped his fat a** in the chair....
Once again, if 'Fluffer' or his hand picked failure runs, 3 out of 4 citizens will vote for the AFA....

JD says he's putting out an article today. Unfortunately, the WTP has no responsibility for how other parties run, or list, their candidates. I suppose someone could have asked us who was listed in our primary if they were interested.

Nah. Candor, if someone wants to run and seek support from all of the parties, they should actually do that. Seeking the endorsement of only one party without so much as a public announcement doesn't seem like the best strategy to become Unity candidate... at least not in the process that everyone but you is using.
Being CP 4 times I really prefer Candor's method than the usual one. It saves time - either people are convinced or not. And they vote for the most convincing or the least evil candidate. Under-the-table agreements, privs, convincing PPs, etc. are thrown away or at least become less important.

You are the spokesman for the WTP. You have insisted on putting up another candidate 'for appearances' that hasn't announced or campaigned. How is this not you or WTP?
I'm not opposed to this system as a tie-breaker, but it's not without faults. Needs work still if it's going to replace the system that everyone else is already using. I thought I was clear, but I guess not.

A popular vote cannot be a popular vote if only one party is doing it. Then it's just a replay of your primary system.
Whatever system we go with, everyone has to be on board...we all need to be doing it.
This is for YOUR ego... not to actually determine anything. You've said it yourself that Cerb is going to win in a landslide and that is what the party primaries have determined, as well. This isn't for 'the people', Candor, this is for you.
Parties play no role in this popular election. They chose the candidates, that was their role, as it always is.
Many people are participating in this, and certainly more non-WTP than WTP.
Since only about 100 people voted in all the combined primaries, and since most people don't ever visit the forums to begin with, they very definately need a place to express their will.
This vote system (this article) has received more votes than the WHPR on the same topic.

People want a voice, 3000 in the last election. 100 isn't a true representation (of 3k) of anything but forum dwellers.
You call them 'forum-dwellers' like it's an insult rather than an indication of activity/interest.
Fair point fg. It is an indication of activity and interest.
But the opposite isn't true by default. Some of our most active citizens stay an arms length from the forums. It can get pretty ugly in there at times. I wear a hard hat.
But the "dwellers" thing was fairly accurate too: So many of those guys have their own community on the forums and really barely participate with the other hundreds of players in game. It's a two worlds kinda thing.
