The Next Step for Canada; Patience, Peace, and War

Day 1,683, 20:00 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

When going to war, there are four things that need to be considered. The first thought is why you wish to fight. There's no point in fighting a fight you don't want to be a part of. Whether it's because you despise your enemy or simply to defend your land, there must be a reason to fight (casus belli). The second question is what you wish to accomplish. Too many wars end in status quo instead of nations gaining anything, because they lack any goals for themselves. Thirdly, you must consider the chances your war will be successful. I don't see Singapore attacking Indonesia because they know they'll lose, after all. And finally, you must consider the local and international repercussions of the war. Poland doesn't attack Germany because it would make them look like warmongerers, and Greece doesn't attack Montenegro because Serbia would rush to protect its little cub. The point is, if you don't have these four things in mind when declaring war, you shouldn't bother with the war. Which is why it upsets me to see so many proposals to fight pointless wars. So let's think about what we can do, shall we?

United Kingdom
Why: Rivalry
Goal: Gain oil
Chances: 20%
Repercussions: No one wants another war with the UK again.
Net result: Although fighting rival Britain for its oil is a logical option, even if we put up superior numbers, we'd be putting way too much effort to hold down the Brits and prevent them from springing back to life. Plus, we've had so many wars, it's old hat. Not interesting in the slightest. NO

France
Why: Foothold in Europe
Goal: Brittany, Pays de la Loire
Chances: 70%
Repercussions: France is booted out of Terra, Canada looks like a bad guy.
Net result: Now this is an interesting idea. Sure, France is in Terra, but have they really been worth the effort to protect them? Plus, France has gotten into an argument with America. Could wiping them be worth the repercussions from the rest of the world? If we really desire a new alliance instead of staying in Terra, this could show that we mean business. YES IF WE LEAVE TERRA

Ireland
Why: For the lulz
Goal: Wipe
Chances: 40%
Repercussions: Ireland leaves EDEN OR Terra declares war on EDEN
Net result: If Ireland wasn't part of EDEN, this would have been a reality months ago. But their allegiance to our sister alliance makes things complicated. With so many EDEN nations fighting on different fronts, they may feel as if Ireland's not as important as keeping USA and Terra on their good side. But if EDEN gets the upper hand on ONE and can spare the troops, this war could lead to the global EDEN vs Terra that ONE's been waiting for. YES IF EDEN IS WEAK

United States
Why: We're better...?
Goal: Alaska, northern states
Chances: 1/525,600 %
Repercussions: We're kicked out of Terra
Net result: Training war? Maybe. But an actual north and south battle for American superiority? Unless you get Mexico to sign on to the plan, this has as big of a chance of success as me becoming the next Victoria's Secret salesperson. And I'm a guy! Furthermore, we'd lose our only tightknit alliance that's pretty much kept us alive for the last few years. AW HELL NO

Poland
Why: To liberate France
Goal: Release of French lands, German lands
Chances: 1%
Repercussions: Deterioration of relations, Spanish declaration of war
Net result: Yeah, it sounds cool at first. The unsung hero Canada saves all its ungrateful friends from the evil monster swarming across the land. But is it a good move? If we attack Poland, Spain will quickly respond, and with Spanish-American relations at a high, the Yanks won't be assisting us. A better move would be to improve relations with the Poles, in the hopes of forming an alliance with them. DON'T EVEN JOKE ABOUT IT

Spain
Why: Rivalry
Goal: Gain a path into Europe
Chances: 2.5%
Repercussions: Deterioration of relations, Polish declaration of war
Net result: Spain and Poland are inseparable. When you attack one, the other quickly strikes back. Although attacking Spain would be a bit easier because Poland lacks a front to Canada right now, it's still not a good idea. Besides, we want Spain and Poland as friends, not enemies. So I can't say that this is a good decision. CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT

Portugal
Why: Foothold in Europe, Appeasing Spain
Goal: Azores, Lisboa
Chances: 14%
Repercussions: EDEN vs Terra war
Net result: Unlike Ireland, which is a minor member of EDEN, Portugal is a valuable member, and its allies won't sit around and allow us to plow over them. Plus, Portugal's strong itself. The only way this could work is if Spain is our ally and we work together to take down the Portuguese. And Portugal's a good friend anyway. Unless it's a must to beat them to gain stronger allies, it's not the best idea. NO UNLESS WE HAVE ALLIANCES WITH SPOLAND

So, what have we learned today? Yes, fighting UK is plausible, but not worth the effort. However, in the right conditions, conquering France and Ireland are good choices for us Roughnecks around. Be patient, my friends. Good things come to those who wait.

Until next time, take care!

And after hours of self-reflection, I've decided to add the reader count! Although this will first appear here as a test, if I see that it's effective, I'll keep it on until further notice! So feel free to refresh the page once, or twice, or as many times you want! Remember, a refresh may be a lie, but if you don't I'll surely cry, and no one wants to see a little boy cry. (It's really loud)
