Shifting Diplomacy! Countries We Should Ally With and Those Not Worth the Hassle
Shoi12
Remember when the UK was our buddy? Me, neither! But yes, once upon a time the Brits and their afternoon tea were our good chums, back in yesteryear. And remember when we hated France? When we invaded them for the umpteenth time? They used to be a despised country in our minds. Now, why am I reminding you of the past? Countries change friends and enemies in the blink of an eye. So, how should we proceed in the future?
The most important country to buddy up with is Spain. Spain has been a worthy ally in the past, and there are talks within their higher-ups to leave ONE, which has neglected them for their entire stay. (Brazil left for similar reasons, remember?) Spain would give us access into Europe in another way, and would potentially have pathways to any north African countries added in the future. Plus, swaying Spain would help protect Portugal, and give us an extra border with Venezuela, someone we're not fond with. Spain definitely is a country we should ally with in the near future.
Poland is also easier to sway than you'd expect. Apparently, they and Spain are quite close, and should Spain leave, Poland may indeed follow, leaving them as prime targets for an alliance, or at least a non-aggression pact. With Poland out of our way, it leaves only Serbia and FYROM as bastions of evil.
And the alliance ABC could also be an option. Other than maligned Finland and Belarus, they haven't been in conflict of many of our allies, and don't seem to coordinate with ONE particularly well. While it's a definite long shot, meeting them halfway wouldn't be the worst idea.
Finally, there are small 'neutral' countries we could cozy up to. While both the Czechs and the Belgians have a couple of ONE ties, there may be ways to help them see things our way. Belgium and the Czech Republic would both give us extra borders on Poland should they refuse our warm gesture.
Of course, on the flip side there are alliances not really worth the trouble. The most prominent such case is France. While it's true that France is a loyal ally, it did cause to some extent Brazil's departure from Terra, and is also ridiculously weak (though historically accurate). I know many countries want to keep their alliance with France, but think about the possibility. Splitting France half and half with Poland wouldn't be the worst idea. After all, they might not be worth the hassle of having to save them every other day.
Turkey is also, in truth, not a good ally to have. They caused Bulgaria to leave our tight-knit alliance and have not shown their ability to trump Bulgaria in battle. In fact, besides in short spurts, Bulgaria has mostly held all of Turkey over the last couple of months. Bulgaria honestly was the better ally, and now that Greece is also in a huff over the Turks, it may be time to burn the bridges.
Other countries such as Cyprus and Russia should also be looked at. They're respectable in both size and strength, but haven't been willing to support their allies for the most part. Certainly we want to keep our relations above water, but we should at least make them earn our trust. Alliances are good, but not if they compromise other, more important friendships.
Until next time, take care!
And thanks to everyone who's been participating in the sweepstakes! If I have the resources, I'll try setting up another event in the not-so-distant future! 😎

Be hard for a shake up of that magnitude.
Getting rid of Turkey and adding Spain isn't much of a stretch, but I'll admit some of the other ideas would take a mini miracle and lots of bribes to happen.
"(Turkey)...not shown their ability to trump Bulgaria in battle"
Turkey wiped Bulgaria on May 29. Of course, Bulgaria took all of 10 days to return the favor. While I agree accepting Turkey and causing Bulgaria to quit was a bad idea, Turkey CAN stand with Bulgaria.
I think there should be a Pan-America/ Western Europe Alliance. It would have Canada, America, Brazil, Argentina, Ireland, the U.K., Spain, and Portugal. We need to show the Balkan Peninsula that we can stand without them. This alliance would be very powerful, and would not be euro-centric. Most of these countries except the U.K. and Spain are already affiliated. Spain could be swung, and the U.K is already improving relations with Canada and Ireland
^but Canada's relations with Ireland have gotten worse
I totally agree with GameChanger on a non-Balkan alliance. They cant get over their RL issues. We can make them disappear altogether.
Pan-America/ Western Europe Alliance
Please no, PANEM or now known as Terra was just a shield of allies so no one can invade 'Merica.
Of course everyone signed except Indonesia and Spain. UK left because of some stuff I think similar to Brazil. Turkey allied with us once, then left not even a month later. (they seem to switch sides everytime they get a period but no one really wants them any more 😛)
Um France is stronger than us, twice our size but just caught in between two large oppo...
nents, Russia is part of Terra.
And surrounding yourselves with allies gets you no wars.
I don't remember hating France. The UK however we have good reason to despise.
We should ally with those in our alliance.
Problem solved. Your welcome.
Funky you post the most useless comments 99% of the time.
I do agree it may be time to leave the Balkans to the Balkans. Croatia has been a long time ally of ours, but staying out of that quagmire would free up a lot of forces to fight in western Europe.,
I agree, Crock. Maybe Croatia is a loyal ally and worth the effort, but Turkey is definitely not worth the constant 'WHOA HELP ME' every 2.5 minutes. We need to keep only the alliances that benefit us, not hinder us. That's why I also mentioned booting France. They're not Albania-level strength, but they're certainly not worth having to D-Day every month, and they also caused, in part, Brazil's departure. It doesn't seem worth it to keep them.
Crock: If you read real news, you'll realize most of these fantasy suggestions are useless.
I have Brazil in my fantasy alliance pool ~ dammit, losing some points on that one.
You guys see this yet? http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-rizon-we-will-face-a-new-era-2061096/1/20
Looks like it's happening. Will Canada hitchhike along?
I highly encourage you to start writing science fiction novels!!!
As for France, they are not "historically weak". From the Gauls to Charlemagne to Napolean they have consistently been a dominant force in Europe. Also they conquered England in 1066 and never gave it back to this day, and were winners in both world wars.
Sorry I'm a bit of a history nerd.
By historically weak I meant during the two world wars, when France always needed saving. Before that, of course, France was a kinda strong country.
Personally ive always thought there should be an English speaking alliance. Natural allies.
When i first started playing the game as eUK and eAmerica was the UK's enemy i thought it was pretty weird.
I like the idea of adding UK and Ireland. I Think we have their respect in terms of military power.
Its kind of like that that one friend that everyone has, you beef each other, you fight, you win some you lose some, but after a long while you both get over it and realize the futility of conflict between what should be natural friends.
