NOOB at the Crossroads
Vyrin the First
Ok it's decision time.
After playing this game for two weeks, I have a decision to make.
Stay or cut bait.
Here are the facts so far:
eRepublik is falsely advertised as a strategy game and I want to play strategy games. I was duped. I accept it. I now know this "game" is really a simple click interface where you slowly build stats and hope to one day get into dark, smoky, IRC backrooms. And who knew that these IRC backrooms could be used for GAMES and not what goes on most of the time in them. (By the way I hope the question, "what are you wearing?" does get asked every so often just to keep people from being too model-UNish.)
Reality is that this game is a community of players who've been on for years and who love hanging out with each other. The "game" almost becomes a back story. I get that. The question is do I give up on the strategy element, any hope of this being a game, any hope of succeeding, and just build up a new social network. Maybe I could join one of the fora that discusses real strategy games.
The comments have been awesome. Its the rare one (like, TJ Norton) who can't believe that a noob who is a skilled strategy game player can pretty quickly size up what's going on here. These are the people who keep noobs away, because they think they get it and really don't. The rest of you by your comments are engaged in a form of noob-love that does warm the heart a little. (It's 18F/-8C where I live right now.) No matter if you believe in your heart of hearts that this game can really be won by magical wishes and fairy dust, the reality is that engaging new players = WIN.
I'm your future. (Scream now for effect.) The reality is that I'm almost level 25 and into Division 2 without doing a damn bit of anything really important except stirring the pot. I already have plenty of pots I can stir in my life so another one isn't a big deal.
I do appreciate that there was a glimmer of hope in communication from the government yesterday. I like that there are feisty chicas disobeying the government too.
But the question that haunts me: Do I give up on a strategy game, and join a community? I never wanted another social network, but here it is. It feels like giving up on finding purpose and meaning in life and turning into a hedonist. Without the normal hedonist fun.
So scratching my head here... what do I do?
(And haha screw you eRepublik I cut and pasted this before you tried to get rid of it... this time you upped the stakes and logged me out when I hit publish. Such a piece of....)

As civilization fan, as you 😃 , I can tell you, here you can find high level strategy in all spheres of game
Of course in online strategy games of the sort you mean, you will be going up against pimpley teen & pre teen basement dwelling no lifers who's main aim in existence is to beat you in these games, by any means,
Then they will crow about it & send you retarded messages about how you suck.
Wait - I'm a pimply pre teen basement dwelling lifer - awww.
You can tell this chump is an old member who is trying to troll
I wish Spazicus would come back.
Ignore them Vyrin, do your own thing, but as much as you may think otherwise, this game is a community based one just as much as strategy, and a lot of that strategy is done in those dark rooms you talk about. I've seen it, been involved in it, and I've seen a lot of nits in them that don't always have a clue about the second thing this game is strongly about...politics.
Docter congratulations on being 100% blind - and you were cp once - egads no wonder this country is so f---- up.
Xavier thanks for the info - it's part of my dilemma - do I want to put up with the political baggage of this game and nits like ^. The game has no penalties for trolls just hanging around and causing problems.
You don't have to get involved in the politics, well not in a strong way. There are those that just come, fight and do their own thing. Each person is in this games for 1 of several reasons, concentrate on the reason that bought you here. My love of the game, and what keeps me coming back is politics, so some it's the military, for others the economic and financial aspect, those with that type of focus are usually pretty good at what keeps them here, find your and work on, ignore the trolls,
It takes a particular type of retard to stick this one out bro. And eAussie is a little harsh at times too.
It's your call. Whatever u decide I have enjoyed your insights and wish u luck🙂
I agree with you on the strategic side of the game to a point. Yes, anyone can play this game, and they do not need strategy knowledge to do so, however the strategy does come into play in political and economic models particularly, and to a lesser extent the military (only high ups really can influence anything in the military side of the game IMO).
I would possibly recommend you set yourself some challenges in the game, that way you can use your strategy knowledge in this game more so.
