Model Congress: Enrollment Period Now Open.

Day 1,014, 14:06 Published in USA USA by Candor

Model Congress

I've been elected the Model Congress Speaker of The House, and Richard Nixon II as Deputy MCSoH until we hold new nominations next week, after our membership is settled.

To me, the Model Congress is a place for newer players to practice their Congressional procedural skills, while having fun at the same time (this is a game, ya?). Things like opening discussions, moving those to proposal format, gathering support via approvals, and, if the idea has merit and support, moving those proposals to a full vote. Some of the discussions will be serious game issues, other discussions will focus on our own Code and procedure. Some discussions will be complete nonsense, and that’s fine too.

The Model Congress has no mechanical game authority, nor even any congressionally mandated function. The Model Congress is simply a role-playing group of people who wish to discuss and debate, propose and vote in the format of the real Congress.

Follow us down the rabbit hole?

Good practice, and for some of us, simple fun. Some of you may want to run for a spot in real Congress one day, and you’ll take along debate, leadership and procedural skills, and maybe a few friends too. Some of you may have little interest in the real Congress, and prefer to stay for quite some time in the Model Congress. That’s great too.

Every month, anyone who would like may join us during Open Enrollment. We’ll hold an open enrollment period of no less than 7 days. After that, we’ll limit the bodies’ access to allow resolution of issues via votes, and prevent trolling from those who would wish us harm and disruption. The only people who may not join are current Congressmen and women.

In the Model Congress, it's ok to be different.

We particularly encourage newer players with little or no eforum experience to join, as this is a friendly, welcoming group who will encourage a diversity of ideas and fresh thinking. It’s a great small-community within the larger eforums to learn the ropes.

Will we do a little “think-tanking”? Sure, we might. But the range of topics will cover the spectrum of complexity, allowing people of all experience and background levels to feel comfortable participating.

Would you like to join the fun Congress? Sign up here. Pick a ficticious city to represent, or a real one. Or make one up.

After you’ve joined the new Model Congress by signing up, you may participate in formulating our new Code here: New Code Discussion
