What Party Should I Join?
Mr Immanuel Kant
Introduction
Contrary to popular belief I am back. I don't have a life but I am alive on a computer game. I have been happy for 6 months but when the crippling depression came back I logged back into this game. So the question remains which political party should I join?
My Past
I have been a member of many political parties in a wide range of countries during my many years playing this wretched game.
My happiest memories in the UK was being a member of Every Single One (ESO). During the days of ESO, this is now a historic party which when I lead it was dedicated to fun and activity. We used to have the MIK 24 hour rule, where if there was any post on the party newsfeed older than a day I would be very darn cross indeed. This cocktail of fear and psychological pressure created activity.
The primary focus for the party wasn't politically inspired boners our main objective was to play the best part of the game - people: playing with people can be fun. The one thing you could never replicate about that time is the absolute lunatics that made up the party. During those days ESO was not where this community ended we were also part of a wider Political 'Military' Grouping called Nifty. This connected those deemed to be nifty enough from across parties to have fun and cause some friendly orchestrated chaos along the way.
After spending some time as a Constitutional Dictator in another country I returned to the UK and both ESO and nifty had quieted down (I am still most cross regarding the 24 hour rule).
I joined the newest political Party in the eUK the People's Unity Party (PUP), this was a merger between the People's Communist Party (PCP) and The Unity Party (PUP). With my talent, humour, charm and ungodly amount of bribery I soon became Party President. My first act was to abolish and rename the Party. Can you blame me? PUP sounds like a group for humans who get turned on dressing up as dogs (not judging, I'm Welsh after all). Many people disagreed with the name change but they are all dead now and I'm not.
After Re-Founding The Unity Party I remained for many years a member of TUP, serving as Party President, Vice President, Spokesperson, Congress Member, Country President and Chief Pimp. Surely with all this behind me it would be obvious as to which party I would rejoin.
My Present
I know many of you are filled with such suspense you are leaking in your already stained overalls. I have decided to join the Spamicans and not just because Chaz has promised to release wife unharmed.
I have served for many years in TUP and hugely respect many there. But the one thing is painfully obvious the coalition of TUP/UKRP/WRP electing the same person continually is tediously dull. As good as Huey is (I've served under him in governments and voted for him) having one candidate every month will and already is killing the game.
We need to ask ourselves the question - How do we get people logging in? The reason I stopped logging in was because after 5 days of not logging in I thought what would change if I didn't play? When I left Huey was CP, Apples was vCP, TUP was the largest Party, UKRP was the second largest Party, Keith was leader of TUP, Certactio was PP of UKRP. What's changed in the 6 months I was away? Certactio has six more congress medals that is literally it. Six months of me not playing and everything is still the same if you cannot see the problem you probably worked for top of the pops during the 70's. Because you are blind to what is happening.
How does this inspire anyone to play the game? Why should any of us log in? Where is the competition and excitement where is the community? Some might call it stable leadership but if I was told by an intensive care doctor that my wife was in a stable condition I'd not be too overjoyed (I wouldn't get the life insurance money). There's only so many times we can read the same articles on a loop: Congress election results, Congress History, (occasionally) Country President Manifesto, List of who's dead and those periodic 'Join my new party' by a 2 day old account. Surely we can do better and if we can't do better then get the Kool-aid out because its already over.
Is there any reason to log into a political game where there is only one political candidate and the same congress faces time and time again. Playing Erepublik or living in North Korea are basically the same. It is only healthy to have a breath of activity into the staleness and predictability of this game.
There is only one thing that has changed in this game since I've been gone and that is the exciting prospect of a new party and a brand new community drawn from every party in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to do something different to try and kickstart activity and fun in the UK. Why would I not want to be part of that? Why would you not want to be part of that?
However, just like my old ESO days parties are not everything (I don't get invited to them anyway) regardless of whatever party (or none) you are in all of our focus' must be to build friendly competition, brutal brotherly banter and community. Only when we do this can we make the most of this game.
My future
So what's my future? In the Future I wish to clear my gambling debts (just a few lucky spins and I'm there) and be formally recognised as the Mistress of the eUK but more than anything else I want to have fun, make friends and have some banter and friendly rivalry.
Agree with me? Disagree with me comment, write an article, post a joke. Whatever you do: be you and be active.
In Activity,
MIK

Think you just helped to keep the eUK a touch more alive - to a better next 6 months eh?
I gave up smoking a few years ago but your clear reminder of the state of play in the eUK right now has made me take up smoking once again.
Therefore TUP gives you cancer, I think.
well said
I was in PCP and worked on that party merger and the "Re-Founding The Unity Party" is in the top 5 most scumbag moves I've ever seen in the game.
Yeah, I’ve always loved PCP. I think the problem with PUP was that when I returned it was basically TUP with Bamber, you etc I don’t think players like Steeev ever joined. (Although he joined TUP when we ran the communists on our congress list). We also had an influx of older TUP players like Spite etc. After a few months I think it was obvious that it was basically the same party with a new name.
Except a large majority of members didn’t like the name. I don’t think keeping the name PUP was viable long term after. I was asked by some to open up to renaming the party something completely different but that’s got huge problems.
In the end reverting back to the (considerably larger) contingent kept the party together and actually increased our membership. Most of the PCP players stayed or had already eDied. I believe we might have exchanged words - but there wasn’t much resistance to the move.
For what its worth my preferred name was ‘The United Communist Party’ but I could never get that agreed.
I voted against merging with the TUP and I hung on in the old PCP for a while, but most of the PCPers who joined PUP left and I got sick of trolls taking over the PCP .. so I joined the TUP
Anything that stimulates activity is good news - and without a doubt the evolution of a new party onto the eUK scene has generated volumes of traffic that have not been experienced a some time.
I would caution against highlighting the fact that Keith and I are still alive and functioning as something bad - the real challenge is that over the past ten years or so the population of eUK has shrunk dramatically - and throwing rocks at two of the stalwarts of the game is not particularly going to help the situation. Also - the ‘Party X is great - all the others are crap’ approach does not really earn much respect from me - what I want to see is an inclusive society in which eUK citizens engage and make things happen.
One thing that I would very much like to see is more well written and amusing articles, particularly those with clever graphics. I particularly miss the output from Horice and Chaz - and would really appreciate new additions to their back catalogue of work.
Be the change you wanna see buddy
Its not the fact you are alive I made mention to, though the Carers keep me updated on you guys.
my point was are you both really the only people who could do the job as Party President? Might there be a UKRP Member who would write articles as PP, organise well etc? Perhaps the population is (shrinking in part) because of the inevitability of the game.
I also am not suggesting only party is decent, (if you have read the article) the whole point of the article is I have been in and enjoyed many parties and made friends from across Party lines.
BUT you can only be a member of one and I have explained my reasons for joining the Spamicans because if things continue the same I don't have a reason to keep logging in.
However, if we can kickstart activity and bring back the friendly banter we can even grow.
Oh - and IK - welcome back.
The eUK is richer with you back as a citizen than without you
I miss ESO.
The most based comment.
If people are active and doing a good job I don't see the point in replacing them with someone new and probably less competent and active just for the sake of it.
There is a reason some people keep getting re-elected
I would hate to return to the time when we only had 10 congress members, when we were being invaded by hostile forces and when the leader of the Military coup handed the eUK to our enemy.
We have regular articles on the feed, we have an unprecedented number of training wars. Many of us are getting medals regularly, whereas in the past that would be once in a blue moon. what is not to like?
I think I support a middle ground. We can have a good government without it being the same person who has been CP for nearly 2 years straight.
I also think the reason for people getting re-elected is no competition. I love the fact you write articles and more people should do it. But the PP result one is not really needed, we all know who the PP's will be. Except the Spamicans those unpredictable lil guys are so chaotic anything could happen: surely that's more fun.
I would also make the general point is a Leader who fails to develop others to succeed him a good leader?
Not sure chaos is 'more fun', we had chaos and it was not fun!
Surely you have to agree that 10 Candidates standing for Party President is more fun that 1 candidate.
Agreed - I think that the string of chaotic phases that we went through in years past killed off eUK citizens at a faster rate than anything that we have seen in recent years.
On balance - I would prefer stability and profitability over anarchy
10 candidates is daft and if it was so much fun why is the TRS turnout in PP elections not the highest?
Sometimes the only proof you need of what is and sint fun is reading the comments
ESO was great, I remember having a rlly fun party rivalry with them when VM and Cheetahcurtis were around.
I would say that tbf to CC, Keith, and Huey, part of why they have been incumbents for so long is because the eUK community has been pretty dead over the last few years and nobody has wanted to take their places.
Of course, AMD did offer a good alternative to Huey last month that wasn't just change for change's sake. Hopefully we see more of that, and hopefully we see a spam CP in the near future, too.
Dead but can be resuscitated - It's just TRS is the only party with people who want to resuscitate (at present). In Congress you literally see TUP/UKRP/WRP arguing to label the eUK as 'do not resuscitate' - no thanks!
Here we go again you are saying all the other parties are shit and want the eUK to die except your party! That is the definition of negative campaigning
Not really, just pointing out that there are people, yourself included, who literally argue for doing nothing. Some people like that, others don't - the public can decide which style they prefer on election days.
This is the straw man argument. I have never argues for doing nothing. Negative campaigning again
You spent a lot of time slagging everything and everyone off in last month's congress, including repeatedly calling things pointless. Which one of us is negative 😛
calling pointless things pointless is just me expressing an opinion, when I see a good idea I say so and if I see a bad idea I say so. That is not slagging off or do you just want me to shut up?
Yeah they were great, You can't forget Sir Jimmy either from that era either.
The article isn't to pick on those who are old, decomposing but active (including myself) but to ask the question what can those of us who are active do to grow the activity of the whole community.
