No slim? I think you mean "not smart".
On a more serious note: I'm not sure what his motivations are, or what he wanted to tell us. I'm not completely convinced that he is insane. He was surprisingly calm, and was quite aware of what was happening (that he was being side-tracked and that the police was about to enter). The police's verbal intimidation (probably meant to scare the criminals being arrested so that they don't try stupid things) also didn't have that much of an effect on him.
On a less serious note again:
Yeah, he did not follow protocol and deserves to be blacklisted. In this case definitely harm was done as I missed the 8 o'clock news yesterday, so instead was forced to watch "with the knife on the table" (met het mes op tafel). Surprisingly appropriate in this case, as this really was yesterday's biggest news, although he was holding a fake gun instead of a knife.
What happened? o.o
A confused young man tried to get air time during the 8 o'clock news. Nothing big really, but I feel sorry for the guy. He's probably mentally unstable and half of NL has an 'educated opinion' of him.
Remaining calm is hardly a sign of sanity.
From suicide studies we know that when someone famous or well-known within a person's social group commits suicide, this 'inspires' people who already have suicidal or depressive thoughts to also attempt to commit suicide. In analogy to suicide, I can imagine that the last thing you want to do - from a national security kind of perspective - is give this incident any more attention than it already got, regardless of how you feel about him or his actions.
Absolutely, these loner actions seem to happen more often lately.
