Since the beginning of our time, capitalism has been the oppressor and slave-master of the New World. Its work has stratified society and pinned us against each other, turning people against their brothers and sisters. Now it is time to fight back!

We are an non-discriminatory military unit and will not treat people of other colors, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnicity, religion any differently than we treat members of our own. We're also not into that macho-man b/s that some other MU's are.

" new revolutionary era in eIrish military history"
Followed by picture of people holding African flags.
"be true to freedom and the Leftist cause, know how to have fun, and you're already in!"
" We accept virtually anyone "
So have I to be a Leftist or not?
**
"Now it is time to fight back!"
"doesn't demand you to do anything but fight for eIreland and allies' in resistence wars! 🙂"
That's what we all do.
The Arab revolutions are deeply rooted in the leftist cause, the desire for democracy and civil rights...
Yes, this is "Leftist's Military Unit" so the name implies you are a Leftist. We accept VIRTUALLY anyone.
That is what all MUs do, don't try to make me look stupid.
The fact that you posted that comment shows your character..
I like the new picture of the IPA.
yeah because the right is against democracy and civil rights xp
I will join!
I must decline, as I am unqualified. I have a desire to work, and to benefit from my work. I object to having my work taken away from me and given to those who have done nothing to earn it. Breathing does not entitle you to my production. I have made it, therefore it is mine to use and profit from, as I choose.
Life is about so much more than work. If every abled body person contributed just a half-hour of their time to work, we'd all be able to live comfortable lives. If everyone would work 2 hours a day, we could all live in abundance. The left isn't about being lazy and collecting welfare, it is about cooperation and working for the better of all humankind.
Imagine how much time we could use reading books, inventing, philosophizing, socializing, etc if we didn't have to work ---
"Imagine how much time we could use reading books, inventing, philosophizing, socializing, etc if we didn't have to work ---"
It's called being unemployed.
8 hours a day just to pay for food and housing (and those with families...can't imagine). Worst of all, most jobs that we young adults can get are cheap-minimum wage jobs for corporations like Wal-mart and McDonald's and other fast food / retail chains. It is KILLING local businesses and killing our individual wealth & liberties.
Life is more than just 'work' and if we work together, we can realize this..
A philosophical debate has broken out over a MU recruitment article?
I suppose a dog-eat-dog world where everyone is willing to destroy each other for an extra penny is a better way to live? America is the perfect example of how bad capitalism is. Everyone is concerned with wealth and not with humanity. People devote their lives to a piece of paper and will do anything possible to get as much of it as they can. Greed runs deep in a capitalistic country.
Also, capitalism will not work for every country, socialism and communism will not work for every country. Each country has different circumstances with a different system that would work. To think otherwise would prove ignorant.
Wise words, comrade. 🙂
best of luck, Mike. Btw, what did the subcomandante smoke in his pipe? 😉

My god I taught if id leave for a bit he'd stop with these articles but no.

I have to agree with Paddy OBrien. I've always been a left libertarian. I believe in voluntarism. I don't believe in assisting others at the point of a gun. I believe in assisting others because it is in my self-interest to do so. What is being called Capitalism couldn't be further from its traditional definition. What we are seeing is Corporatism, Crony Capitalism, Public-Private Partnerships. Ideas that are anathema to a free market.
In a true free market, there are no barriers to entry in the marketplace. You are free to follow your dreams as long as you do so peacefully. In our current "Capitalism", if you dare to compete against our Corporate Overlords, they will use the very legislation they lobbied for -- that which is anathema to our free market -- to put you in your place.
Lysander, that's the problem. No matter what economic system is in place, whether it be capitalism, socialism, or communism, it always gets taken from it's true purpose and meaning and twisted to serve in a different way.
Personally, I believe in a type of light socialism leaning more towards capitalism as it gives more freedom than pure communism does. But what capitalism has turned into, as you've pointed out, is nothing but corporations running and controlling countries..
Too much corruption runs rampant in a lot of capitalism, although a lot of it is behind the scenes. And in the capitalism we have today, there must always be a group of people, no matter the ambition, who are poor and poverty stricken and have almost no way of getting out of the situation. It all turns into evil greed, inhumane actions and beliefs, and all in all a type of mayhem.
like last few conclusions... its never about ideas... almost all of the ideas has benefit for all as goal... but usually it all comes down to the intention of the individuals in power. I would take worst idea and guy with good intentions over a perfect idea and a crook behind it...
gl mike...
You're blaming a system that hasn't been tried. The name capitalism has been taken by corporatism, mercantilism, and other economic systems that aren't capitalism or even close. America is the prime example, try to start a business in America today and you'll fail. Why? Because barriers to the market sent to benefit the large corporations. That is not capitalism.
The problem with the argument is that there is corruption in the current system, but where does the corruption come from? Government intervention in the markets. There's a saying I really like, it goes "When the legislature controls buying and selling the first thing to be bought and sold is the legislature." Guess what socialism and other coercive economic systems do? Place more power in the hands of fewer people and grant them a gun.
I can see your logic, Texas_ironman...but I wholeheartedly disagree. What you're thinking of is Statist Socialism, centralization of economic power into the hands of the few. Most Americans seem to assume that socialism implies more power to the government, when it fact a true socialist knows it is giving it to the workers and decentralizing power. Do I need to specify 'participatory democratic socialism'? Or perhaps mutualism?
The problem is what if someone or a group of people opt out of the system? See as an Anarcho-capitalist under my system if someone or a group of people want to live in a communal or socialistic system... go ahead. No one will stop you or try to inhibit you as long as your system is voluntary. My beliefs about what an economy is and needs to be pull it away from our current idea of the economy as a machine (as evident in people's language "fix the economy") and see it as an organic living being.
Each person is a cell in an organism that does what it wants and needs to do directed only by themselves. It creates homeostasis and eliminates waste and has no need for a central plan. Coercion (in this case government) is a cancer that grows and tries to direct the cells against their rational self interest and directs wealth into things that should not be done (or should be done, just not in the way they are being done). Left or right, up or down the real enemy of all mankind is coercion.
"not treat people of other colors, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnicity, religion"
How about animials, do you descriminate against us??? Cow power.
well, you buncha brainiacs sure rained on my sunny day. i wanted to comment that i thought IPA was about beer, but somehow that seems inadequate now.
neither real capitalism and real communism have ever had a true test: no matter what the ideology, special interests coopt the movement for the power and profit. and none of you have addressed indigenous issues or God. not that any of this matters here. it's a game.
anyway MB, have fun. i appreciate your effort.
Voted!!!
@Texas_ironman93: As somebody who knows where you're coming from, I have to say that, in my opinion, you have an elegance in stating arguments that I wish I could achieve. Do you write for a living?
One of the more interesting comment threads I've seen in a while.
I tend to think that the words "capitalism", "socialism", "liberalism" and "communism" (and possibly "anarchism" as well) have been degraded to such an extent in the various totalizing symbolic orders that they have essentially lost all meaning. In such a situation what are we left with but an appalling need for an attempt to re-establish, first off, what it means to be human?
Are the comments about erepublik or real life? Because if the later... jesus guys, go on a march or start a blog.
does this not prove that "man can not lead man". no matter what kind of goverment man puts in place it always goes bad. we need Gods Goverment with Christ as King in order for man to live in peace and harmony.
im an atheist..
Religion doesn't work either, inca. That's been proven throughout history. Morality and humanity should be the basis of any society and government. Not religion.
🙂 Correct, Andrews. Religion, even tolerant ones, eventually become corrupted by power/greed and grow intolerant of opposing views/beliefs.
so does any attempt for organised body... corrupted people get elected, or just come in power by this or that means and voila... how is religion different from gov, or any form of organisation in that manner, or attempt of same? u mean to say if people tomorrow start labeling themselves as anarchist or leftist then corruption wouldn't occur? How is something fault of a system or a organisation, or religion for that matter? Fault lies within corrupted individuals who manipulated or manipulating
'religion doesn't work'... so does nothing, everything eventually gets corrupted, u have such a linear view... in fact things move in cycles... everything pure gets contaminated and everything contaminated purifies over a time. so does ur perfect leftist society if ever was one or religion or any other form in any other way...
I believe in circles, stpucca. I don't believe everything would get better, but I try not to be so pessimistic. I've been a cynical pessimist my whole life. I believe it'd be a step in the right direction and there needs to be checks within the system to ensure there is minimal corruption. Yes, it is all because individuals ruin these systems but that is because there is a huge incentive for them. If people had no or little incentive, corruption would be less rampant. Just saying...
cycle is never pesimistic 🙂 as soon as ur down.. ur up again 🙂
And even with religion.. I'm spiritual, but to base a whole society on one religion is discriminant against other religions. To say a religion should be based on God and Christ doesn't include Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Rastafarians, etc. There would be a backlash and most likely religious cleansing as there has been many times before. A lot of religious people take it too far and become intolerant of the other religions and it leads to violence and genocide in some cases.
yes... people with different kinda tendencies group together to achieve that which they intent. Often that intent is very materialist or self centered, and aim not for benefit of all but just chosen few, or even to hurt others of different intent. Such organisation, be it religion, government, or whatever are what they are and will exist always... this is not pessimist view again, but its reality, we have to embrace that part of our diversity too... its there...
its only not worked coz man has corupted it for his own end and need. If the main principle was love of neighbor and every one did as god asked and put away our selfish desires it would work.
and just for the record NO ONE has the right to take any ones life no matter the reason. weather it is for religion, power, land, money. All and any killing is wrong in gods eyes. he gave life only HE can take it away in punishment of disobaying him. (just so no one thinks i'm trying to put any one down)
it's a frickin' game people. go back to taunting MikeBane [sorry man, never thought i be suggesting that] and leave the deep thoughts to the coffeehouse.
Nothing wrong with a healthy conversation here or there, Thomas.
Inca, you don't need religion to have morality and humanity. It's always gonna be up to mankind to do that right thing and as history has shown, mankind isn't too fond of that.
We need religion to guide us morally? Can't figure out that muder is wrong by yourself?
the rest of man kind dont get it. look at all the wars? thats just murder you dont get arrested for. if the bible is followed to the letter with out man changeing it or putting in their own traditions we would have a peaceful world with everyone living happly side by side.
And if you follow the Qu'ran to the letter, the same would be achieved. But not everyone is of the same religion, again posing a problem. Religion has started more wars than you can really count throughout history. And the only murders would be if God ordered the murders, which I find just a tad bit hypocritical, though I understand the 'lesson' behind it. A peaceful world will never come to fruition unless humans themselves are no longer on the planet.
