Eerbetoon aan Madiba
GEN. DE LA REY
Geboren 18/07/1918
Overleden 5/12/2013
Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika (God Bless Africa)

Ons vir jou
A lot Boers are definitely doing the opposite of mourning this individuals death according to what i'm seeing on the internet.
A lot? Two or three radicals maybe?
Or maybe 4 including Wilpanzer.
en Piet Pommpies natuurlijk XD
Afrikaners maybe, but Boers no. We haven't had a foot in government since 1902. All the statesmen from that time onward were from abroad, the Cape colony or Britain.
This irrelevant statement is false, starting with the Boer general Smuts there were several in government.
but indeed there's a lot of facts that aren't being disclosed to the international community. For instance, he was imprisoned for 27 years because he didn't want to denounce the Church street bombing and other violent acts(which killed white and black alike). Also around 20 000 black on black political murders took place during the Apartheids era, sanctioned by the ANC(Mandela's party). If you look at SA now it's just a cesspit of corruption and poverty. Mandela's legacy may be with us in idea, but not in deed.
Why focus on the negative on such a sad day. Yes he was not an angel before he went prison but he was driven to wrong decisions because of the government of the times policies. He however was the key that the country needed to open the door to democracy, without which South Africa may still have been stuck with Apartheid. To insinuate that South Africa is not a better place for it's people now is just plain stupidity or maybe a statement from a youngster who did not live during the time Apartheid was in place.
Smuts wasn't born in the Transvaal or Free State. He fought against us in the Jameson raid and called himself an Afrikaner from 1910 onwards.
No wrong again,in fact Smuts served under Koos de la Rey. He then at a latter stage went behind enemy lines to recruit more Boers to the cause.
You want me to except the truth? I didn't comment negatively on him as person or his character. But if you don't live near Diepsloot, Ikageng or any of the other hundreds of informal settlements you have no idea how the black government has wronged its own people. They live in total poverty and indignity. Government officials buy expensive jets and go on expensive vacations while people starve. You have no idea Afrikaner Meisje, no fraking idea what these people have to contend with daily. The rich-poor divide is as big as it was in apartheid, no doubt.
Yes there is poverty, yes there are 5 million illegal immigrants in the country, yes there is corruption like in ay other country, but to say this was better during Apartheid, you are probably young and ill informed.
Did I even say it was better in apartheid?
Yes
Ok quote me then. Put some substance to your accusations.
Go read Grimstones article, even the Pto'ers you allowed into the country respect Madiba. http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/r-i-p-tata-madiba-1918-2013--2349243/1/20
"If you look at SA now it's just a cesspit of corruption and poverty. Mandela's legacy may be with us in idea, but not in deed. " "The rich-poor divide is as big as it was in apartheid, no doubt. "
still waiting for that quote
Make up your mind now, did he make a difference or not. Did he leave a legacy or not?
Ideologically he positively affected the people, he lifted apartheid(which was wrong), but in his short reign as CP he didn't get to see his party through from freedom fighter/terrorist/guerrilla to a genuine party for the people. That's why I'm saying, his legacy is still an idea, it hasn't realized. Who knows, maybe another party will realize it, or maybe he'll just be remembered for the person he was and no thought will be given to serving his ideal.
So? Wasn't better in apartheid, still isn't better.
R.I.P. Madiba...
gestem
I remember watching on tv that he was released from prison. One of the few occasions that I will never forget - like the fall of the Berlin Wall. RIP mr. Mandela...
